Kansas City VA recently honored a 103-year old World War II Veteran with Centenarian recognition.
Catherine Anthony, a member of America’s “greatest generation,” served as a nurse in the Navy during WWII. She provided skilled health care and worked to improve the health and morale of those serving in the war.
With her devotion and outstanding service to women in the military, her time in uniform contributed to making our nation a more inclusive society and shaping the military we know now. Anthony remains active at her Heartland Women Veterans American Legion Post.
Shortly after she celebrated her 103rd birthday, Kansas City VA presented her the Secretary of Veterans Affairs Centenarian Veteran recognition at American Legion Post 1107 in Independence, Missouri.
Anthony accepted the Centenarian Veteran challenge coin on behalf of VA Secretary Denis McDonough.
A trailblazer female WWII Veteran
“Being able to recognize Anthony at her American Legion Post 1107 was such a special experience. She has made such an impact on her fellow Veterans and is truly a trailblazer as a female WWII Veteran,” said Jessica Barszczak, chief of the Center for Development & Civic Engagement. “Being able to present her with the Centenarian Award gave me so much pride in the work the VA does for our Veterans from all eras, and allows me the opportunity to meet amazing Veterans who have gone above and beyond for our country.”
