Walter H. “Skip” Williams Jr., an 80-year-old Navy Veteran, is rolling with the changes to My HealtheVet login.
Williams served honorably during two tours in Vietnam aboard the USS Snohomish County. As an electronics technician, he supported critical missions by safely transporting supplies and equipment.
VA is committed to making it as easy as possible for Veterans to manage their benefits and health care online. As part of this commitment—and to streamline Veterans’ sign-in options—VA will transition to two modern, secure sign-in options starting in January 2025: Login.gov or ID.me.
This change simplifies access, strengthens security and meets federal cybersecurity standards with multifactor authentication.
“I don’t like change, but I knew I needed to get started,” Williams shared.
Why Veterans use My HealtheVet
My HealtheVet is VA’s online health care portal, offering Veterans secure access to their health information anytime, anywhere. For Williams, My HealtheVet (MHV) has been a vital tool since 2013, as he uses it to refill prescriptions, check lab results, verify appointments and message his VA care team. The platform makes managing health care more convenient, especially for Veterans who prefer managing tasks online.
Although Williams has been using My HealtheVet for over a decade, updating his login presented a learning opportunity. His biggest challenge was uploading a clear photo of his driver’s license.
“I had trouble at first. But the My HealtheVet coordinator told me to take my time and try again,” he said.
Williams successfully completed the process after learning to avoid taking a photo with glare and to ensure the entire document was visible. While it took some patience, he said the experience boosted his confidence with technology.
Benefits of the new system
The updated login system lets Veterans access multiple VA services with a single login, eliminating the need to remember multiple usernames and passwords.
These login updates also extend to the VA: Health and Benefits mobile app which lets Veterans manage their health care, benefits and payments directly from their phone.
Login.gov and ID.me accounts can also be used for other government services, like Social Security, making them even more helpful.
Williams encourages his fellow Veterans to approach the process with confidence.
“Don’t be worried about making mistakes because you can’t mess it up. Someone can always fix it. If all else fails, just start over,” he said.
For Williams, the experience was more than just completing a task, it was proof that persistence pays off. “It’s given me a lot more confidence to try different tasks on my computer,” he added.
Here’s what’s changing for VA websites and mobile apps
- After Jan. 31, 2025, VA will remove the option to sign in with a My HealtheVet user ID and password.
- After Sept. 30, 2025, VA will remove the option to sign in with a DS Logon username and password.
Veterans will then have two sign-in account options: Login.gov or ID.me.
Veterans who have not yet transitioned can access their information after creating a Login.gov or ID.me account.
“Our goal is to ensure no Veteran loses access to their health care information,” said Ashley Gray, a My HealtheVet program support assistant. “Once Veterans start the process, it’s easier than expected.”
Veterans can find the latest information, step-by-step instructions and downloadable resources at prepare for VA’s secure sign-in changes or creating an account for VA.gov.

Thanks for the opportunity to comment. I agree with most of the other commenters re the ever changing VA log in process. Too many steps and too confusing . I enlisted in the Navy in 1964, so Old Navy! I served four years on active duty including RVN. VA need some folks to assist older vets get log in. Bravo Zulu to Cal Vet Contra Costa County who were helpful with my Agent Orange .
I will have to agree with the 100% negative comments I’ve seen here. The new process for sign-in which is being forced on us will surely keep the hackers out, but am afraid it will keep most of us old-timers out, too. My little flip-phone takes pictures but will not transfer them either by Bluetooth or USB but I can make and receive calls and it only costs $10/mo, which helps offset the huge expense of satellite internet.
So, as mentioned by several commentators here, I will be ordering my meds by phone and for all my other business with V.A., will struggle through all the minutiae of the answering system.
I am a 75 year old VietNam vet and have been trying for 2 months to sign up on Login.gov and have not had any luck. Even when I try to say I will go to a post office and do it, my phone number is not accepted even though it is the number I have used for 3 years and is the number on Login.gov it still will not accept it. Why change things for older generation to get more frustrated.
Let’s try and make it more difficult for older veterans. Probably hired some junior jet that wants to make a name for him or herself.
You know you are making it harder for Seniors
Been trying for a couple weeks to sign with new procedures but have not been able to. Had to drive 20 miles away to Pensacola Fl VA building and get them to give me the meds I needed. Asked them for help but they could not with the new system just refered me to another site with also could not help me be finally got a some one that could help me. He explained how I can sign. However both options for me I will not be able to do. I am 81 years old and hard for me to use the computer except for simple things. Even the options to go the the Post office I still think I will not to be able to get it done. Seems like talking to others no one likes the new system. So, I think I am going to just visit the VA at Pensacoa each month to get my prescriptions refilled.
I gave up long time ago !
Hello, It certainly would be nice if the sign in did not require a stateside telephone number to verify sign ins with. There are a lot of VA members that live in foreign lands with zero access to an American telephone number and this is very frustrating. Calling from overseas is an option that takes forever because you are put on hold for the next available agent and when you get through lots of times the available agent can not help with the particular problem. I don’t see how the people such as myself will be able to log into the new system unless this connection to an American phone number is fixed. Tricare and Genesis seem to be working fine?
Is it just me? The new LOGIN.GOV online Sign-In requires photos of Driver’s License (front and back) every time you want to sign-in, while in person identification, you need to go to the Post Office?
Isn’t it, the current sign-in system is just confined within MYHEALTHVET.GOV cybersecurity, whereas the new Log-In.Gov may not, it collaborates with other agencies to using shared services. Uploading personal Driver’s license info, SSN; every time makes me feel uncomfortable. As a veteran, I only desire to partner with VA.GOV…, and not with several participating government websites and applications, I no longer use and I’m sure most veterans feel same. I’m 100% happy with MyHealthVet.Gov. -the best!!
I have tried twice to fill out the form only to be left totally confused about what was being asked of me. I was asked for data that I had no knowledge about. Are there any directions or classes to help me in Boise ID?
I saw that Bay Pines FL gave classes to help vets survive this challenge.
maybe some vets with no IT knowledge should have been used as a test market to see the holes of understanding for older vets.
I love how the Boise VA MC is treating me and would hate to lose this because of poor IT knowledge on 100,000 vets with limited IT knowledge.
Please buy me a computer since mine crashed some time ago. Tell me how I am to what I don’t have.
I have already been using ID.ME. But, now it states that I have to VERIFY once again. That is crazy. Additionally, when signing into http://www.myhealth.e.vet.com I have to put in my cell number. Then, again, ID.ME gives me a code to enter. That is TWO too many codes for a cell phone. ONCE is ENOUGH.
I went through the trouble of setting up the accounts years ago . Once I’m in VA.Gov it says I need to be verified. I also did that years ago. I’m 100% for TBI and other disabilities. I’m 65 . I used to do most things online. I called Login.Gov and a woman said she couldn.t walk me through it. I just have the DAV do things for me now.
Unlike the others who have had problems setting it up, I set it up OK but it just stopped sending a login code. Maybe it’s more secure but it isn’t better if it doesn’t work.
3 days of frustration with trying to upload photos is outrageous. This isn’t a generational thing for older vets not used to technology but a poorly implemented and designed I.T. boondoggle.
Anytime a bureaucracy comes up with an alleged improvement to secure data they just create less security to thieves who find more ways to penetrative. Net result is just pain and more frustration.
The VA Secretary should investigate this mess.
My life is too short to waste more time on this ridiculous transition that accomplishes nothing.
Good for you!! I made this change for my husband ( Vietnam Era but in Korea DMZ)
I dreaded making this change but somehow It all worked out. Thank God for all the help over the years from
The Vetrans’ Administration!!
Thanks for the news
May as well get started guys. You are not going to get any help from V A support though. Just get you a good state I D and a young person with technical knowledge to get it done.
It took time and tears but I did it!!! Login va is way to go forward.
I have attempted to sign in to the new web sight. I got signed into ID.me, but it would not give me an authentication code. I tried several times. I have other accounts that use the code with absolutely no problem. I am all for security , but I do not believe in putting my ID on line. I do not believe that is good security. I decided I had spent more time than was necessary.
I commented earlier about my problems trying to get on and failed to mention that I already have a login.gov account that I had to set up a while back for OPM self service and it works fine. The problem is totally with the VA who requires the second stage for their MFA, but then refuses to accept my phone numbers. (which they have already had in their files for years) The interesting thing about that is that the VA rep who is supposed to help you blames it all on Congress. Easier to point a finger than it is to help an 80 year old veteran who served three tours in Vietnam.
Young people today grew up with electronic games. As an example, watch the speed of their thumbs on smart phones. When I was a kid, calculators weren’t available. The va is apparently ignorant of the technical challenges that older Veterans (capital V) face. Younger Veterans (capital V again) are likely capable of knocking-out changes in a few minutes. Further, I’d wager that those designing these programs haven’t reached their late 20’s.
Another cluster foxtrot from the incompetent fools at VA. This problem is getting worse by the day and every time they change leadership it gets worse. Glad my days are numbered.
My Views on the MyHealthyVet log-in issues are as follows:
I can not understand why VA is changing procedures that is simple as is.
1. The VA should already know who is a Veteran by historical data.
2. Outsourcing Veteran’s data to third party sites who already have security issues.
3. Every Veterans computer has a Divice ID and is one of a kind. EXample : 516053B9-399E-4BAC-8CFC-AF26CE7075EF Computer Device ID
4. VA should have the ability to create an ID Card based on historical data on file. Picture and fingerprint on ID with the same imformation
listed on file.
5. It is estimated that only 56% of older Veterans have Driver License or State ID’s.
I only hope that the above information will be of help to VA.
The password complication is terrible. i pity poor William when he needs to change the password
I have tried 4 times to do it. It will not accept my password. I don:t see the need to make everything so complicated.
I have an updated VA ID card, now this. What a cluster.
I’m 79 and can’t do it, shouldn’t have to do it.
This is absolutely fascinating!
Let’s see – Although Mr. Williams is 80 years old, he’s an experienced “electronics technician”! Gee, no advantage there!
Something tells me that the majority of Veterans ARE NOT ‘experienced electronics technicians”! So that certainly should work very well given the following comments below! :-( Who knew?!
Bingo. Cherry picked for marketing. I invested several hours, no exaggeration, struggling over the telephone with a very kind lady before canning the foolishness.
I’m glad that I’m not the only one. Thank you 100,000 other veterans having GREAT difficulty, GREAT frustration, and causing TREMENDOUS anxiety. The system isn’t broken so WHY break it? HELP ( DON’T HOLD YOUR BREATH)
I also am an 80 year old Vietnam vet (3 tours) and found the change not just frustrating, but unreasonable. I never was able to complete a login.gov account simply because they don’t or won’t recognize either my home phone or my cell phone. My cell phone number is the same as it has been for the last 18 years and my home phone number is the same as it has been since moving to this residence 5 years ago. I did eventually get an ID.me account with the help of my daughter and her cell phone. Change is sometimes necessary, but it should occur reasonably. To deny my identity because for some reason they don’t like my phone numbers is Not reasonable.
7 phone calls for help over 3-days for about seven hours, I gave up getting help. Went through a circle of VA calls, then redirected to “Login.gov.” No one could tell me why my “info could not be verified.” Left messages to “Login” and kept getting response that the issue was resolved … NOT! Both the VA and Login focused on picture of license being the problem. It turns out they were guessing. First it was guessed that I had to do better in taking a picture. After that proved not to be the cause, they guessed that it was the phone-to-computer hand-off; that was not the cause. Login could not specify where the problem was so support people guessed “based on their experienced!” I was eventually told the issue would be escalated to a higher tech level and I would be contacted … NEVER HAPPENED! I even tried the Postal option but could not get passed: “info could not be verified.”
On the fourth day, I decided to try ID.me. Put in all the same info and my picture and it immediately identified where and what the problem was (much like good civilian sites do!). I have two contact phone numbers in my data base. I had used the number I use most times. Apparently, the system did not recognize that number, so I put in the other listed number (my land-line). And it immediately accepted all the info and I was “verified.”
ID.me directed me to the problem and therefore the fix. The Login site did not and support people were not able to help though some tried and some did not. Login will work if you don’t have a problem. ID.me worked in minutes without requiring tech support (which never came)!
Where can we access a My HealtheVet coordinator? We have veterans coming into our county office all the time who have issues with the login. Since we do not have the equipment or training to help them, we would love to refer them to someone!!
I have been unable to sign on to VA.gov due to the photo verify process. I have taken multiple license photos and all are not accepted.
Why not just use the two step verification process. A lot more simple.
It’s always wonderful you’re keeping us (Vietnam retired veterans) informed. It’s difficult to understand/maneuver through the techno part of the computer. Thank God I have a son that knows all the ins and outs of it. Keep the good work. Thank you for your help.
This seems to me getting rid of MyHealthyVet is for governments benefit than the veterans. Most vets don’t have two forms of ID and login.gov doesn’t accept VA or Military IDs. The only driver’s licenses I was told was acceptable was a REAL ID which requires you to have a passport because a birth certificate is no longer proof of US citizenship per REAL ID. Really stupid system to deprive veterans of access to medical providers over onerous government controls when they have already been qualified for VA Benefits
I live and work internationally and only have a skype # for U.S. purposes as I only turn on and pay for my U.S. cell coverage when going back to Tpa/St.Pete for my yearly appointments. I use a VPN for everything and trying to load a perfect picture for login.gov has been a headache for days!!!!Not international friendly at all!!!!
All of this so-called “convenience” is for the VA not it’s patients. Why take information or speak directly with a veteran when you can train them to do the work for you. 1) why give them their travel pay onsite anymore so they can get gas on the return trip when you can make them sit at home and wait for it 2)Why tell us we can get care from civilians if the VA can’t squeeze us in for an appointment in 6 months but require we visit our primary and get their approval and authorization before being seen and that doctor can only perform that service that’s been approved even if they find a more serious problem during exam. And only the one doctor in an office of 10 is approved to see the veteran. And all medications have to be approved by idiots not even familiar with their use. Be glad if your problem isn’t life threatening. 3) boy scouts. Celebrities, politicians, reporters and cameramen, special interest groups, all can fly on military space available flights, but disabled veterans who’d like to visit friends and family aren’t given that privilege.
I have doctors prescribing me medication that have warnings that patient should be closely monitored but never ever follow up. None of them know you or your condition and you get passed around like a hot potato. Then some idiot who doesn’t read your file slaps a dose of something you’re allergic to straight into your veins.
Yes all these and worse things have happened while in the VA’s care.
The worst yet: a nurse checked the wrong box on some paperwork and the VA immediately told me to surrender my driver’s license and the blocked all my accounts meaning to put me in a home and turn over my finances to the government. Thankfully my doctor came to my rescue and straighten it all out. Nurse. Not even a slap on the wrist. No harm you say… well they took me off the transplant list and didn’t put me back on. I haven’t been able to find someone to walk me back through the process or even gives a damn and I’ve been on dialysis now for going on 13 years. I might would have had many years if life but instead I’ve many years in pain every single day. Print that in your column. I never expect to hear the whole truth in your commentaries. Wouldn’t look good. They’re just hoping I age out of receiving a transplant and go the hell away or die. That’s not what your readers want to hear so i don’t expect it to be printed. Why? To help me now would mean having to admit to making mistakes and the thing they do best? – Cover their -sses.
What a crock, one out of millions!
I sent up my user name and 1,200 digit password and still can’t see my VA appointments and can’t find anyone at Tripler that knows how to set up the link to see our appointments or relay info to our PCP.
When did MyHeathVet become part of the CIA website?
why moderation-you said you wanted the FACTS-you are getting the FACTS from all these other commentors.
what is a url and why do you need it??
Censorship rules-I wrote a negative comment and they deleted it-they know the entire program SUCKS!!! to put it mildly!!!!
This is just another super expensive , useless, unnecessary, doomed to failure and yet another pathetic experiment meant to enrich some pathetic soul as the cost of even less work being done as yet another even more ridiculous time waster costing millions while no work is accomplished and some other fool gets to extort us and the country without his scam and snowjob of a program. Meanwhile even more expensive devices will be purchased for yet another dumb idea and changes keeping employees busy trying the newest scam instead of getting patient care attended to. How about just for the novelty of it all-we go back to the good old days and just sign in once and stop having to do it twice only to have the blasted program pop up with OOOPS! can’t open this useless program up-come back in a few years when we figure out what we did wrong this time!!!!
I am not happy with this new setup. After months, I finely got in under the new login, but, every single email that I saved on secure messaging is gone. The VA has deleted all my emails and that is not good. What are they hiding. I now have no proof of the emails that I sent to them that shows they were not doing their jobs. This is so pathetic…..
I did it. It took about a month. Now, it works fine. It was worth it, because ID.me had me log into Social Security, and got $25 per month off my Verizon bill because ID.me proved an vetted me as a veteran, so I got the monthly discount. It was all so easy, once I got it set up for the first time.
I was worth the change.
The.new signin took me five or six weeks and three VA helpers giving up and telling me to call back another day. It was so frustrating I knew exactly why there are so many suicidal Veterans. What a terrible thing to put a Veteran through.
A perfect example of screwing up a good thing. There was noting wrong with the sign in the way in was.
The VA should schedule group classes, day and night, plus weekends on how to access this system. It is not user friendly. It will block out veterans from connecting with their providers.
I served 30+ years in the AF and 15 years with the US State Department. I am 81+ YEARS old just using a PC is hard enough for me. I have been working and then retired overseas for the last 39 years countlessly. Starting in 1986 – 1991 at 3rd AF Staff then retired and moved directly to Bangkok Thailand. I found employment first at JUSTMAG Thai, then USAID and finely at the US Embassy 16 in all while living in Bangkok. I retired from the State Department in 2008, for the last 17 years been retired in Bangkok. Over that period of time most of my ID’s have laps. I do not have a original State driver license or State ID. Talking to LOGIN.gov with out either of those ID’s I can not make a login.gov account. I feel if your making a GOV login site that you should require a Government ID as on of the Primary ID (US Passport ) to make a that login account. I see no value of a State driver license State ID, as they are given out everyone even illegal foreigners ( California as a example ) You should add USA Passport as on of the primary ID’s
It was difficult. I scanned my license 4 times without success and then made an appointment with the Post Office to complete it. I wasted a lot of time with this exercise.
I have never used my healthy vet or whatever
It is. I get text messages and phone calls and appointments letters. I talk to pharmacy via phone and my PCP or staff and Lab via phone. So, what is the problem?
Why not do as I ?? I am 78 and 100% disability rating so you see I have many appointments to deal with. No time wasted.
Thank you and Good Health.
My relative is a veteran with memory loss. He cannot handle its affairs on his own and does not understand what is going on. I was able to use my-healthvet with his old userid that he was able to setup when he has all his faculties a long time ago. Now when we tried to set it up for him online at a va location with staff help, the system said he had to have a video conversation to set up his new id. He does not understand so a video conversation will not work. He no longer is able to leave his house for a video setup at the VA.
So after January 31, he will not have access anymore because there is no other way to transfer his old Id to a new one. We will not be able to use my-healthvet system anymore for secure messaging with the VA nor manage his appointments or have access to his records.
It appears the logins only send a text or phone call to your cell phone. Although I have a cell phone and I can make calls thru my list I CAN’T read a text or press buttons. If there was an option to send the code to my email I could do it all by myself.
For me the hard part is like Bill’s–and I have no assistant to help me–doing the photo(s) and dealing with the mechanincs. Im 88 and my skills are down. I’ll take his good advice and keep at it, but I just want to extend commiseration to other older folks and encourage the kind of persistence and dedication yall used when you were in service. Never quit!
What a disaster. This new system is impossible to get on. Too involved, too many requirements. I emailed them for help (THREE TIMES), it says they will contact me in “six hours” but they never have. I call the help phone number, eternal hold (now 30+ minutes!). This is horrible.
Anyone listening to the vets?
The sign-up process has been a pain in my backside, whereas I had to drive 1 1/2 hours to a ID.me. UPS store, only to be told the kiosk was not reading my driver’s license either! Once I was able to get a readable driver’s license photo accepted by Login.gov on my computer – the site then tells me it cannot confirm my phone number! The same and only one I’ve had for the past 12 years, even though they could easily text me security codes. NO PROBLEM! Just request confirmation by mail – wait – every link to request confirmation by mail is an info only computer loop!
I agree with Mr. Rath – I will no longer be able to use this valuable health care tool.
It ate my comment. Must not have liked it.
Excellent article. Puts the entire sign-in effort in a real one-on-one perspective.
Well I was able to log in but the whole new system is a PITA! It is MUCH more difficult to use than the old one. Maybe the long term goal is to convince Vets to look at other sources for your healthcare.
I’m pretty good at tech, and it still took me 2 hrs to open an account with id.me. My vet friend tried for over 12 hours including talking with support and never succeeded. I went to his house and we banged it out in 2 hours. The difference was I have experience with tech and he was more of a novice, which will be the case with millions of us older vets. i predict over one million vets will no longer have access after Jan 31. SOLUTION: the instructions to open a new account with login or Id.me has to be rewriten for a 7 year old. No offence, but many of us vets just aren’t able to use the current instructions. Or, open on sites where volunteers help vets. Or, be prepared for Trump to make a big stink and fire VA leaders because THIS WILL BE A BIG NEWS STORY WHEN MILLIONS OF VETS ARE KICKED OUT AFTER JAN 31. Be proactive for once.
This is complete non-sense! There’s always a knuckle-head that believes that a system that is working just fine needs improving. Nevermind how good the present system is, let’s fix it! I’ve been trying, off and on, for nearly three months to make the change and will have to make a trip to my local post office to finally (???) complete the change-over. The idiots that came up with this idea need a good thrashing!
It’s not easy, Iwas suppose to have completed it twice. Still didn’t work . I’m still not sure I will be able to access my health care. SUCKS!
The new login site has issues constantly has error message about not available at this time. Takes several trys before taking you to site.
VA more wasteful web work none or ther Apps work and neater does this.
I cannot complete the change. It has been the most frustrating experience I’ve had with the VA. I will no longer be able now to view my health care results. What a shame for older veterans.
IF you can’t take a good picture with your phone(IF you have a Smart Phone), you can set up a printout that you take to a Post Office and they will verify your Real ID State license. You can then login when you get home.
I tried several times and it would not work. You idiots should just close down the VA site.
Thanks for nothing.
Log in for ID.me went OK. Log in for Login.gov is impossible. Uploading photos does not work. Rejections with no reason does not help. Getting help with this is not working either.
this new thing is a piece of SH-T, been trying to get it to for 3 months ,I give-up, will have to go back to USPS to get anything done. Why fix something that ain’t broke, then I Remembered IT’S A GOVERENMENT ENETY . Just another FUBAR
I’ve tried using Login.gov without success. I scanned my drivers license as a high resolution jpeg (photo) and the system rejects it. I’ve been able to use ID.me by using my gmail account to login. I don’t know if the new login requirements will eliminate signing in with a gmail or Facebook account. There’s something wrong when Login.gov is so secure a veteran can’t access their account using a crystal clear driver’s license image. Customer support just tells you to use a better image of your license. That’s not helpful! I’m not looking forward to the new system login changes at all!
Unable to make the change after trying for a few months. Easy way to make sure fewer vets are involved.
I have tried numerous times. I don’t use a cell phone and I don’t understand some of the terminology that they use in the instructions. I guess that I’m done with ordering my medications on line.
I am a 78 year old veteran who failed miserably to follow the guidelines to develop the new access to VA site. I tried for several months to get the new log in established and failed miserably. I finally reached out to my son who bought me a cell phone and set up my account on login.gov. Now all I need to do is learn how to use a cell phone so I can receive the text messages before they expire. What do the homeless vets do? i have seen all the help that the migrants received but no newa on what they are doing for the homeless vets.
“What do the homeless vets do? i have seen all the help that the migrants received but no newa on what they are doing for the homeless vets.”
Thank you Mr. Schussler, this is the question always on our mind. You stated it well and needs to be passed from flag pole to flag pole from our houses, homes and curb side tents to the White House: at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW Washington, D.C. zip code 20500. If you can, go to Office Depot or Office Max and purchase a red ink “CONFIDENTIAL” rubber stamp. Address our concerns to President Trump and stamp the letter with the red “CONFIDENTIAL” stamp. Don’t be naïve, President Trump will not be the first person to read our concerns. His staff will review the content and pass it along to the Veterans Administration. It will receive attention as it is passed up the chain of Command.
May God continue to bless America and protect President Trump.
River One VN 69/70
Typical government. It took me over 20 hours over three days to finally get it to work. AI sucks, the info I continued to get was a circle jerk, round and round. Finally got a human on the chat but that didn’t work either.
Delegated the account three times before getting it setup. Then another 7 hours completing the verification process. Then the video call, couldn’t understand the young fellow. At least the gov could hire English speaking employees for their verbal communications.
We,ll see if they retaliate for my comments.lol
Personally I think both the ID.me and the Login.gov are bloated systems difficult to navigate. The myhealthyvet site was much more streamlined. Additionally I get a lot of system error messages forcing me login several times. It must be built for a Windows user, I use Linux. Hmmm, I have to enter my email address to comment? I hope I don’t have problems logging in in the future.
also vets that live outside the us can not use these login services because they only accept us id cards and not passports
I’m a 86 year old veteran, 87 this April, Navy Veteran, civilian Mechanical and Electrical Engineer, write code and write programs, the new login is not difficult it is extremely hard to navigate once you get in to the va.gov site.choices are inadequate and not enough choices to be able to acquire the information that you want and need. I’m amazed at the non professional and poorly constructed site. Well enough said. I hope I’m not black listed and what’s left of my life made difficult by the government system now that I’ve given my opinion on this subject. God bless the less computer octogenarian veterans.
the new system sucks. the log in apps have to much PII. just keep it simple.
While the new login is not difficult it is very hard to navigate in the va.gov site.there are not enough choices to get to the information that you want
83 yr old Viet Nam vet. This system is not user friendly, and it took me several times over two weeks to perhaps get where I should be. Still not sure, as when I log in it doesn’t seem to go anywhere. Getting a copy of drivers license was quite difficult. Who figured this stuff out anyways? Perhaps I should have had my 12 yr old grandson help me.
My husband tried to go the check in at the post office. They didn’t recognize the phone number he has used for 30 years. We couldn’t get the info we needed to make an appointment at the post office so we are stymied.
This whole process is both completely unnecessary and annoying and only creates more problems for ageing Vets. Get a life people and stop this nonsense!
I just completed an ID.me login. it sucked. It took several days, I could not get assistance, and assistance requests were responded to with instructions that were causing the problems. 1st is having to upload pics from the phone, even though I had the pics on my computer, but there was no option for uploading pics from my computer. being required to upload pics from the phone, when the driver license wouldn’t photograph with the phone caused the system to reject the photos. I’d have to sign-in 3 or 4 times back to back as trying to log-in had it’s own problems, but having to enter username password and MFA in 3 times back to back is an issue.
Mike, the other log-in option isn’t much better. The available printed pages to guide one through the process are not easy to follow. And although “aging” probably has something to do with it, I spent most of my civilian working days on computers and never had any real serious issues. Problem is further complicated by the fact that I don’t have any children to help me :>) Had same problems with uploading pics from phone or computer (still not done). So, just wanted to let you know that you weren’t / aren’t alone in this particular “battle” . . . but we’ll make it through!
Typical government BS.
It ain’t broke, so let’s fix it!
Now it’s FUBAR.
Thanks a lot. I’ll be ordering my Rx’s by phone. Great!
Yes is a good supporting role for all of us that are to use this system. For myself, I started as soon as it was suggested, and my disabilities were becoming more apparent – has been helpful to receive communications and review what has been recorded. A 77-year-old Vet was in Vietnam
I worked for the department of Army as both civilian and military employee starting June 1967. I was a computer operator, Computer Specialist, Senior analyst and a Information Management Officer. Almost 42 years Federal Service. Made Sgt E5 in 10 months from draft date Nov 16,1966. Since VA came out with Computer systems developed by contracters, compared to US Army computer systems, very poorly designed and not very interactive programs. Even I can not make it work. Florida has a very small printed DL that is hard to read and the system will not accept smart phone pictures. Tomorrow, Jan 24 2025 I will go to local post office and see what they can do. If I can get back to this site, I will post any updates.
I tried to change over for four months. It has never worked, and the last time I tried, the process crashed my computer. Attempts to ask for assistance received no replies at all.
I will not try again.
ID.ME sucks.. no way there’s someone to help out, I have 3 accounts with ID.ME and all 3 are suspended for over 3 years I have been texting support for helping to clear at least one account but THERE IS NO ONE ever texts back and there never a reply to my cry for help from ID.ME of only there is a contact phone number to call but there is NOTHING. I stop using this accounts and travel over 50 miles to the local VA CLINIC just to get my meds and they always give me a hassle about me being there in person that I should get neds thru the mail delivered.
I was moved from Alabama to Florida in 2019 and immediately hospitalized. I do not have the Florida drivers license or fake ID card that is current all of my bills go to my tax advisor at a different address than where I live all of my picture ID.’s are at least four years old, I do not own a car or drive, so the requirements of both new login procedures are impossible for need to meet. I also have a retired military ID card, but that is not acceptable. I have a passport that is 20 years old., and my Social Security card is the original one issued in 1958, which does not have a picture or my address, or my birthdate or my address. The nearest place I can go to renew my VA ID card is over 100 miles away., and I am paraplegic that must be moved with a Hoya lift or an electric lift, and where I live, which is the state VA retirement home , the Chester Sims VA state retirement home cannot provide transportation to Pensacola from here, which is in Panama City so I cannot obtain any of the required identification documents that both ID Me or login.gov requires. How am I supposed to order my medicine refills or get into any of the government websites? Please let me know how.
I am having dificult i n sign ing please help me
Can’t figure it out.
I have been going between My Health E Vet and the new sites and I don’t like the new ones much. For example the Medicine side is much more limited on the new application as far as ordering, looking at ALL of your Rx since you joined the VA and more information about the particular medication. I will continue to go back and forth and hopefully the VA will update the NEW services to match what was available on myhealthevet!
