Building a great resume that captures the attention of recruiters and hiring managers can be tough. However, there are a few questions you can ask yourself to help you better set yourself up for success.
When you’re building a new resume, or reviewing an existing one, take a moment to pause and ask yourself a couple of questions about the document in front of you. Ask yourself:
- What story do I want my resume to tell?
- Did I read the job announcement?
- Did I tailor my resume to the job announcement?
- Did I proofread my resume?
Overall, you want to make sure that the resume you provide matches the requests presented in the job announcement. If you have all the skills and training necessary, but don’t tell the recruiters, you aren’t going to get a response.
Along those same lines, you also want to make sure that you’re applying for a job where you actually meet the qualifications. Just because you’ve had a similar job in the past doesn’t mean you’re qualified for this particular position, so it’s important to make sure what you’re reading lines up with your skills.
