Together We Served Buddy Link graphic.

Together We Served (TWS), a military and Veteran online community website with 2.5 million members, has launched a new free service called ‘Veteran Buddy Link’ to assist Veterans who, due to their location or circumstances, may find themselves in a state of loneliness and would welcome the friendship and support of other Veterans, particularly those residing in their neighborhood.

Veterans are justifiably proud of their service and often this portrayal of pride may mask possible underlying anxieties and other issues associated with loneliness. Those who have served share a unique bond that remains with them throughout their lives. Veterans are naturally drawn to and thrive in the company of other Veterans because the unique culture of military service and the commitment to service and sacrifice is common to all.

This is the reason TWS’s Veteran Buddy Link service was specially designed to enable all Veterans, especially those who may feel isolated or alone, to seek the camaraderie of other Veterans in the comfort and security of TWS’s online environment which has often been acknowledged as reminiscent of a military base.

To seek a Buddy connection, all a Veteran needs to do is first register at the TWS Veteran Buddy Link portal page.

Registration is straightforward and includes a brief summary of a Veteran’s military service, their zip code of residence, and an invitation to respond to: “If you would like to be connected with other Veterans for friendship or support, including those in your neighborhood, tell us a little bit more about yourself and how a Veteran Buddy connection would be welcome.”

When a Veteran completes registration, an email is then automatically sent to all Together We Served members, residing in the same zip code, indicating that a Veteran in their neighborhood would welcome connecting with other local Veterans and, if interested, to log in to view their Buddy Link post and make contact.

As a natural extension to Buddy Check Week, Veteran Buddy Link provides a year-round opportunity for any Veteran who has internet access to make meaningful connections with other Veterans, for social and welfare-related purposes, which could greatly improve the quality of their lives.

I’m a Vietnam era combat veteran. After reading about the veteran buddy link, I’m interested to become available to veterans who may need help in some way. I’m not personally lonely or suffering anxiety, etc, but I’d like to be available to assist a veteran in need. That said, can I join this forum for that purpose?

    • TWS Admin March 28, 2025 at 16:21

Bob – Absolutely! Thanks for posting this. Please join Buddy Link at https://togetherweserved.com/buddylink and make a post regarding your offer. Over 800 Veterans in need have registered and made a post how a Buddy connection would be welcome. TWS Admin

While I like the concept of TWS, what I do not like is the constant daily emails flooding my inbox. I cancelled them and they all go straight into spam, where they belong, now.

    • TWS Admin March 27, 2025 at 11:26

Robert Carr – Every TWS Email advising you of people joining your unit, our monthly newsletter, a message from another member, site updates etc. has an unsubscribe link. You can selectively opt out of emails you do not wish to receive. TWS Admin.

    Greetings,

First off this is great. I sent a letter to the president about starting a service like this about a month ago if I remember right. I hope this will help veterans suffering from loneliness and have low social contacts. I truly believe that this service is used by veterans will help prevent veterans suicide.

    Great Job

    • TWS Admin March 27, 2025 at 11:29

Jason – appreciate the kudos. We have the platform capability and we’re really pleased to be in a position to support Veterans in this way. TWS Admin

I am annoyed Together We Served (TWS) is being pitched by the VA as being “free.” If you study their privacy policy, you relinquish your peaceful solitude to anybody they contract with for multiple means of access, USPS, email, and telephone.

Once they pitch their free fluff, then as the previous commenter said, you have to pay. For me a “no! thanks.”

Jo Rooney – To register and participate in the TWS Buddy Link program is completely free as the article clearly states. Over 1,600 Veterans have already registered from the link in this article and not one has paid a fee.

TWS has both Free and Full Memberships just like LinkedIn. Buddy Link is available to all Free Members.

We have started a nonprofit group of veterans helping veterans. Our mission statement:

Empowering veterans through camaraderie and connection. We create a welcoming space and tools for veterans to socialize, access support, and engage in activities that promote well-being. Through events, outings, and helpful services, we foster a strong network where veterans can find a listening ear, practical assistance, and a renewed sense of community.

We hope to lessen the isolation and loneliness by holding outings and events for veterans and their families.
We would be honored to invite any and all veterans in our area. This covers the area around the White River Junction, Vermont, and quite a bit of the surrounding area. Hanover, Lebanon, Enfield, Cannon, and Claremont New Hampshire. We have veterans further out in both states.
Any veteran in our area can simply log into our site and check for information and events, and sign up for our newsletter and emails.
We have only been a nonprofit since mid October of last year. We have soon deep sea fishing trips, picnics, and other events planned for later this year, and are starting to plan monthly card and game nights and a monthly dinner.
We seek contact of other groups that serve veterans, so that perhaps working together we may all better serve our brothers and sisters who served.

I’m an 81mm mortarman from Wpns Co 1st Battalion 8th Marines 2nd Mar Div. I was in Beirut. Lost 241 men 220 were Marines. 8 guns being positioned along the runway with incoming and sniper fire from the Pepsi Plant I guess was like Viet Nam. We got confirmations a couple times of taking out artillery that was trying to take us out. But we were there in a Peace Keeping Mission so no one recognizes that combat even though we got the CAR and were paid $65 @ mn for hostile fire pay. Even in the books there’s dick about Beirut just up the way we’re Jesus was born. Mediterranean looks like Heaven and on shore, hell. So how do I find other Beirut Marines who don’t go to the Memorial, didn’t get blown up and hopefully are still alive. And some of the posers w BVA, Jville NC, and VA are completely useless. So how do I find these Marines because this was right after Vietnam and way before everything else. Oct 23, 1983

    • TWS Admin March 27, 2025 at 18:31

Gary – Together We Served has a number of Marine Members who served in Beirut on October 23, 1983. Please contact our Admins at admin@togetherweserved.com who will be able to guide you. You can also check out our Buddy Finder at https://togetherweserved.com/buddyfinder – Enter your Unit and years served and you will see how many Marines we have on board who served with you. I think this is a wonderful idea! Not for this old 88 yr old vet who doesn’t know how to use modern technology or social media, but I’m happy to see it now available to other vets. Having witnessed connections made by vets & the positive impact it has, I applaud this valuable means of reaching out to those lonely and/or isolated veterans in need of support as well as those just wanting to bond with other service members.

The Together We Served Buddy link is NOT free, as indicated. There is a monthly fee to be paid annually.

    • John Idema March 26, 2025 at 20:03

Well, that’s misleading and discouraging. My enthusiasm for TWS has been lost.

    • Ryan March 26, 2025 at 20:19

How do we become a helper?

    • Christopher Miller March 26, 2025 at 23:18

It was free for me. I didn’t have to pay anything. I haven’t figured out how to search by zip code yet though.

      • TWS Admin March 27, 2025 at 11:45

Christopher – thank you for clarifying. As part of the Buddy Link service, we will be emailing other TWS Members in the same Zip Code that a Veteran is seeking a Buddy Connection. We will also be filtering all TWS Members and Buddy Link posts by Zip Code for easy reference. TWS Admin

    • TWS Admin March 26, 2025 at 23:53

Matthew Hansen you are incorrect in your statement. To register and participate in the TWS Buddy Link program is completely free as the article clearly states. Over 1,000 Veterans have already registered from the link in this article and not one has paid a fee. TWS Admin

      • Mike Carr March 27, 2025 at 09:24

This is from the TWS website….

“There is no fee to join Togetherweserved.com, however, there are certain areas of the Website which are accessible only to those who purchase a fee-based Full Membership.”

Now tell me that my statement is incorrect.

        • TWS Admin March 27, 2025 at 11:41

Mike Carr – TWS has both Free and Full Memberships just like LinkedIn. Buddy Link is available to all TWS Free Members. Does this answer your question? TWS Admin

          • Mike Carr March 27, 2025 at 17:50

What question of mine are your referring too? You seem to be somewhat of a smart alec which only confirms my disregard for your services, sir.
