The link you mailed me does not work!
Is this where we “offload” on the VA?
Where do I start?
Just the other day a Rep called me, didn’t leave his name and asked me to call him back on the 800.827.1000 #; the national #!
Now this message about CAP. Was going to erase it thinking it was a scam. But as I read it I became confused and frustrated. As a senior, I’m not hip on password/websites, etc. Then, they (the VA) write me another email apologizing for sending the first email
Please help our Veterans.
wonderful news
I’ve worked in my mothers Aid and attendance 6 years and she does March 9 this process has been ridiculous and my father was a wartime veteran out of the army in 1955 ! Disgraceful
The link to the VA with the Claim Assist Portal does not work. http://claimassist.va.gov/suite/
I called 1-800-827-1000 who could not help me resolve the problem. The email you sent asked me to do something and to go to this link and cannot comply with your request. I am unsure as to how to comply and answer the question that you asked me in the email. I would like to be contacted.
This sound good idea, make claim process faster and less stress for Veteran, no more chasing paper and waiting long time. But again, VA thinking only digital—what about older Veteran like me, disabled Veteran, or ones not good with computer or phone? Email, password, code… this can confuse many. Also trust issue, some Veteran think email is scam, they not click link. VA need make sure there real human help, simple option, and strong education so Veteran understand and trust system. Good step forward, but cannot leave behind those who struggle with technology—we all serve, we all deserve same access.
Good morning,
Last October I requested a copy of my E&P Exam. I’m still waiting for a copy.
The portal is a very good tool. At least give it a try. They (VA) put a lot into this for us (Veterans). At least try it out, then make up your own mind.
I initially filed to add my kids to my disability in April 2005. It was denied because I failed to include copies of their birth certificates, proving that they exist and that I’m their dad. That was communicated in October 2025. I immediatly filed a supplemental claim and included the birth certificates. I still await a response. An advocate to keep things moving would be an welcome addition.
What if I do not get an email from the VA? Is there another way to get the the Champ VA Portal. I know they are handling some of my claims. but I seem to be unable to reach them at this point. I was able toget in previously.
VA website is very confusing. No way to get my phone verified( i get my id verified, and ssn#, but got stuck in verify my phone number..) nobody cant help you with that, not even the phone number listed to help. .. neither in person or at the VA office, so I cant log in.
Use id.me instead; both places are gateway (my term) to the same or equivalent services. Enjoy Rick
After much searching… Turns out this claims portal is a feature of the “VA: Health and Benefits” app. Search for that in your app store. Once I downloaded and logged in with ID.me there was a large “claims” link right on my home page.
Yes Rinaldo,
Downloading the “VA: Health and Benefits” app and the “ID.me” app makes for a secure VA account that has all of your medical information and your benefits listed in one app!
We’ve had this app and feature for a long time now.
If the VA can’t make claims user-friendly, maybe AI could. The info in our records is ignored when a contractor screens the vet. When service-connected awards are removed, all presumptions are thrown out the window. Then the vet will be forgotten, and probably no longer with us;
their losses are forever before anyone can fix it…

We need help. We do not have a bathroom on the main 1st level when you come into our duplex 1942 home built during the World War II
Era. Curtis Holmes, Vietnam Veterans have slipped and fallen many times. Often times he will not share it with me his wife. I am Berta Holmes. I take care of him. I have requested approval for a Primary Bedroom to be added off the main level when we walk into our Duplex House. I was told recently that we have not been denied. I have to shave him give him baths/shower 4 – 5 times weekly. He cannot wash himself, cook or do anything to help me around the house. He has TWO PURPLE HEARTS AND 100% CONNECTED. We want to add a Primary bedroom off the 1st level, and a large walk-in shower God forbid if he goes into a wheelchair. He struggles to sit in chairs and get up from the sofa, etc. He has never utilized his VA’s Loan options. I need help from VA adding these two rooms onto the 1st level. We have 11 steps leading upstairs to the master bedroom and 11 steps going down into the basement. If you pull his medical records, you will see all his side effects. We need help please.
Having a claims portal sounds interesting, how do I set up this portal?
I have been waiting 7 years will it expedite my claim
Thank You! This appears to be another step forward to help us veterans that feel as though our time to go thru the claim process keeps being “dragged” on and on. Especially for me; as I am one of many veterans that have been “LOCKED” out of the VA website because of some computer clitch that thinks we have more than one account because we filed more than one claim. It has been over a month and I still can not even get on the VA website to look at my medical records or send or receive messages from my Drs! I need HELP.
I am glad this portal is available for deserving VETs today! Being that it took me 11/eleven years to grasp and finalize my current disability with tremendously long wait times, rude phone call answering at my servicing US embassy, overly redundant medical assertions-reschedualing by the VA and out of pocket personal expenses…I am still unwilling to get involved with a disability worsening status or upgrade change.
If you want us to use the Claims Portal, why don’t you give link to sign up!
Well I tried to find the Claim Assist Portal link and was unable to find it anywhere. I clicked the Claim Assist Portal link above (Topics in this story) which did nothing but bring me back to this page. Not a great start for this new program.
I filed a claim on 01 Dec 2025 and have not received a response yet. I called the 800 number listed above and the woman who answered and stated the claim was ongoing. I asked her when I could expect to get a response and she said she did not know. I asked if there was a certain time frame to get a response regarding my claim and she said she didn’t know. 3 1/2 months is a long time to wait to get an update or an answer regarding my claim. I’ll try the Portal to see if it actually works.
Great information. Good to know what to do in advance of this possible notification.
A claim was put in over a year ago about my husband rating . Master Sgt Calvin Myles
I haven’t heard from anyone
What if a veteran doesn’t use a cellphone?
Email only?
As an accredited Veterans Service Officer, I appreciate VA’s continued efforts to modernize and streamline the claims process. The Claim Assist Portal has the potential to improve response times and reduce administrative burden for Veterans.
However, I have several concerns regarding implementation, transparency, and claimant protections:
1. Veteran Awareness and Informed Participation
Will VA forms and initial claim intake processes be updated to clearly inform Veterans that they may receive electronic communications (email/SMS) requesting action through this portal?
Additionally, will Veterans be given the ability to opt out of this type of communication and default to traditional methods if preferred?
2. Risk of Bypassing Accredited Representation
Many Veterans rely on accredited representatives to assist with development and responses. This portal appears to allow direct communication with the Veteran that may unintentionally bypass their representative.
Will accredited representatives receive simultaneous notification when a Veteran is contacted through the portal?
What safeguards are in place to ensure Veterans do not unknowingly respond in a way that could negatively impact their claim without consultation?
3. Notification to Consult Representation
Will the portal include a clear and conspicuous notice advising Veterans to consult with their accredited representative prior to responding, particularly when providing statements, signing forms, or answering development questions?
4. Authentication and Security Concerns
While the system uses email, temporary passwords, and verification codes, some Veterans—particularly elderly or vulnerable populations—may have difficulty distinguishing legitimate VA communications from phishing attempts.
What measures are in place to educate Veterans on identifying legitimate messages?
How will VA mitigate the risk of fraud or impersonation?
5. Equity and Accessibility
Not all Veterans have reliable access to email, smartphones, or digital literacy skills.
How will VA ensure that use of this portal does not inadvertently disadvantage certain populations?
Will traditional communication methods remain equally supported and not deprioritized?
You sound like a good VSO wish you were my VSO
Everything I try to use on the VA on-line links are hard to find and hard to understand and use period. It’s not so easy when one doesn’t know much about computing, ie., old veterans. But I understand the VA is trying to improve.
So how do you get this great portal? Where is it? How do you set it up?
I need a copy of my DD -214. ROBERT JANSEN YOUNG
I would like to use this.
I need help , this is totally stressful
I need a copy of my DD -214. I am Thomas R Faughend er
Why did you not give a way to sign up? How stupid is that?
I will look into this with my case manager.
Thank you for your support to helping to get status of claims to run smoothly
Thank you for making the process easier.
How can my wife check claims on CHAMPVA?
I am a surviving spouse of a Vietnam veteran that committed suicide on the steps of the VA hospital in Grand Junction Co. I filed the 3 of December 3 2025 for DIC benefits. I’m just in limbo and can’t find out the status of my claim. I need help.
What’s needed (and has been needed for a very long time) is for additional assets to be allocated for us veterans stuck in the “legacy” system.
My appeal is at 6 years, 2 months and it’s still “awaiting” to be sent to a judge.
That’s just for the appeal to the decision; 6 years, 2 months.
My case has been in the system a hella lot longer than that.
Mi nombre es Cristóbal Ramos llevo 30 años esperando para que se procese mi caso me dijeron que está en Washington pero creo que 30 años es demasiado tiempo y nadie hase nada por este servidor. . Muchas gracias por escucharme.
Does this go to your attorney as well?
Is this only for if the VA needs more information? We need something to speed up the process of our claims.
Welcome to the new age, this would have been nice a few months ago when my dependent claim got denied cause I missed the full date. Had the information been specifically called out I could have corrected it. Now I have to go through the entire process again. I think my daughter will graduate college before I get her added back on after you dropped her from high school without even asking if she was going to college.
Sounds like a fantastic too…. I guess, once again, nobody proof read the page… it seems to cover most, except how to use it… how do you download, or, at least open it up on line…etc…
it’s not hard… type in va.gov create and id.me account… then you can upload all of your documents for claims and appeals and receive an email that they ae submitted asap…save a lot of time form faxing and scanning from machines.
But that has been in place since for years. What is this new thing they are talking about?
how do you do any of this What you need to do
Watch for a message – If VA needs more info, you’ll get an email and SMS text.
Open the portal – Click the link and follow the instructions to log in.
Respond to the request – Follow the steps in the portal to respond.
Sounds like. good tool.
I am retired from the Army and I was told that retirees did not get VA service, that we get all our service from active duty bases. If that is true, why do I receive these notices
I am also retired from regular Army and have being using the VA as my primary care for the last six years. I am guessing your were given bad information.
You’re getting those VA notices because retirees do receive VA services.
Whoever told you that retirees “don’t get VA service” was simply wrong.
Being a military retiree does not block you from VA health care.
You can use both systems — they just serve different purposes
VA for:
Service‑connected conditions
Specialty clinics
Mental health
Lower‑cost prescriptions
TRICARE for:
Non‑service‑connected care
Civilian providers
Family coverage
Urgent care flexibility
You can even have:
• VA as your primary provider, and
• TRICARE as secondary insurance (TRICARE often pays the copay)
I got the email with the link and password but link does not work.
same, and when I called to talk about it I was told I was wrong not the VA website being the issue. 2 computers and a phone with multiple browsers and all say its broken
Great, this page is up with no link to the portal
Can’t find the “VA claim assist portal” in the App Store… What is the specific name of the portal?
They always make it hard to do anything. I don’t know how many times their links do not work. Always “Try again later”
Looks very promising. Anything to make the claims easier.
How about looking into past denied claims from Vietnam vets who had their claims for hypertension denied…this after the hypertension is on the very list that VA created from Agent Orange exposure. They don’t seem to have shortage of money for other “certain gender ” veterans who demand health care.
How about ask for help or a question without bashing other veterans in the process. If you are referring to female veterans, we are still at a disadvantage when it comes to getting care within the VA system. Please direct your personal troubles elsewhere.
Why is it if your out of state you can not go a Va clinic in a different state? We live in Minnesota and winter in Arizona. We are only allowed to go to er or urgent care that tell us to see a dr
We have a lot of snowbirds in our area. Our local health care center said to do this you have to enroll and then disenroll each time you leave. You would think that with the age of technology it would be easier than that. Snowbirding is not a new concept, VA!
Just reply to my email. Or do I contact you by using this – https://news.va.gov/145318/introducing-the-claim-assist-portal/
I don’t have a cell phone. Only this computer that my kids gave me.
Would like to know more information about filing and appealing a claim. no
Great, looks like a big improvement .
Need a help so my veterans benefit can drop in to my account tomorrow morning
This sounds promising. But, will it provide us (the veteran) with the ability to actually access the DBQs from C&P Examiners as well as the C&P Exam Request to the Examiner (VA Form 21-2507)? Currently, a FOIA/Privacy Act request has to be submitted for our own information, and even then, only DBQs have been released.
Claim Assist Portal does not give veterans direct access to their C&P examiner’s DBQs or the VA Form 21‑2507 exam request.
Those documents are still only released through FOIA/Privacy Act request the portal is designed to: Notify you faster when VA needs additional evidence, let you upload responses more easily, track certain development actions in real time, reduce delays caused by missed letters or slow mail
It’s a communication and document‑submission tool, not a transparency tool for internal VA exam materials.
This Claim Assist Portal sounds like a much-needed upgrade to speed up the process, and I appreciate the VA focusing on digital security with the multi-step verification. However, as someone who is always cautious about phishing, I’ve noticed a lot of third-party sites popping up that claim to review or offer ‘bonuses’ for various verified platforms, and it can be confusing for us to tell what is a legitimate regulated service and what isn’t. For instance, I recently came across a detailed compliance breakdown on a site like https:// guiadebet nacionalbrasil .com which discusses regulated structures and technical certifications in other markets — does the VA have a specific guide or a list of ‘trusted partner’ domains we can refer to, so we don’t accidentally provide our sensitive claim info to a site that just looks official but isn’t part of the .gov network?
Yes! YES! yes!!!!! Ty ty ty The Veterans Administration rocks and so do THE VETERANS AND THEIR FAMILIES.
Sounds very good but it is nowhere to be found.
I have copd
