New VA Video Connect features make telehealth appointments more accessible

VA Video Connect, VA’s secure videoconferencing app, has made life easier and more convenient for Veterans.

VA Video Connect now offers new features to enhance your video appointments. Update your mobile app to the latest version to start using them.

“Video appointments are always good when you don’t have serious or emergency health concerns,” said Eric Faulkner, a Navy Veteran who lives an hour away from the closest VA medical center. “It saves time. It saves you money. Anytime you’re not using gas, you’re saving money while addressing your health needs.”

New features available, including:

  • Live Caption View: See real-time captions at the bottom of the screen during VA Video Connect appointments. Turn captions on or off at any time; your preference will not affect what other participants see on the call see.
Turn on real-time captions by clicking the “CC” button at the top or bottom of the screen.
Turn on real-time captions by clicking the “CC” button at the top or bottom of the screen.
  • Historical Transcript View: While live captions are on, you can review a running transcript in the panel on the left side of the screen. To access it, open the side panel and select the CC icon. You can adjust the text size for easier reading. The transcript is available only while the video session is open. VA Video Connect audio, video, chat, live captions and historical transcript are not saved, in keeping with VA Video Connects strict focus on privacy and security. Care-related activities during the VA Video Connect session are documented by the VA healthcare provider in the electronic health record.
A computer screen shows a video call interface with two individuals displayed, one in the main window and one in a smaller window in the upper right corner. Captioned text appears in white boxes across the lower portion of the main video window. On the left side of the interface, a panel displays a list of messages with several highlighted lines. Various icons are shown along the top and bottom edges of the screen, including a highlighted captions icon.
Review a running transcript of the call in the panel on the left side of the screen.

I’v been in the VA for 26 years with the same primer care , she retired and I refuse to talk to a TV. I’m 79 yrs old Veitnam Vet. . I’m 100% total and permanent disable It seem as tho you are forgetting about us senior Vet. for me I’m a people person face to face conversation. I’m out of the Cambridge Md. VA , I live 15 min form there and look forward to talk to someone face to face about my medical problems. I travel 198 round trips miles to the VA hosiptal in Baltimore,Md. because I do not talk to an computer for all of my other VA apponitments. Community Care is great until you need items like diabet shoes socks and other prosthetic items. Community Care doctors can not order these items. Has to be a VA doctor. Please don’t forget about us older senior Vets.

You ignored the bottom line. Those changes might help during the phone c onference, but it does Not give us veterans ME, a record of the call and what was said, recommended or ordered. Shows who the VA progrmmers and staff are concerned about. NOT the Patientws.

Not a question but a comment/complaint. You need to make the app work with other platforms besides Google. I hate to say it but Google really sucks and I try not to use if there is anyway to avoid it!! Just my $0.02.

Is it the same procedures for the veteran living overseas? I been using or taking all medicines I needed from the civilian’s hospital, but not VA clinics or hospital, and I paid for all of them since somewhere around 2006. The best part of it is that I never able to get reimbursed for those.
