Veterans Health Administration (VHA) is devoted to providing the best environment for our Veterans to succeed—whether they be patients, employees, or potential employees. Our diverse employment opportunities bring together Veterans from all walks of life with one mission in mind: serving those who served our country.
Jarrett Garland, who works at the Tennessee Valley Health Care System on the Alvin C. York Campus, previously served as an active-duty Navy Hospital Corpsman out of San Diego. Of his military experience, he explains, “whatever the cause was that guided us to do the impossible within our military medical careers, it made us who we are today, and sounded the call for the greater good of our fellow brothers and sisters.”
It is this same call for the greater good that ultimately led Garland to begin a career as an Intermediate Care Technician (ICT) with VHA, The ICT program enables former medics, medical technicians and hospital corpsmen to capitalize on their experience and apply their training directly to a career with VHA.
And he explains that the opportunity has proven to be rewarding for numerous reasons. “The financial stability within the Veterans Affairs or Federal Service are a plus,” he says. With an array of competitive benefits, VHA is committed to ensuring a fulfilling career for our employees.
That fulfillment extends beyond compensation. Garland explains that working with the VHA has not only allowed him financial stability, but also the chance to further his education and work toward degrees that he was unable to obtain prior to his time with us.
However, one of the best benefits of working with the VHA can’t be bought, according to Garland. “The chance to continue to serve our brothers and sisters and to ensure that they continue to receive the high quality of care that they deserve and have earned while in service to our country,” he says, “is one of the biggest rewards of working with the VHA.”
