The 2017 National Women Veterans Summit is swiftly approaching and we are looking forward to seeing many of you in Houston, Texas. For those of you who are unable to attend, check out the VA Facebook Live Events page and Twitter feed regularly on Friday, Aug. 25 and Saturday, Aug. 26 for live streams and tweets. Join the online conversation using the hashtag #VAWomenVetsSummit.
On Thursday evening, we will screen Journey to Normal and hear from some of those involved in making this powerful documentary, and on Friday evening, we will enjoy a performance by women Veteran stand-up comics from ASAP. The opening plenary Voice of the Veteran panel featuring five women will set the stage for the rest of the summit by grounding us in the diverse experiences and concerns of Veterans themselves. These events, along with a display of works by women Veteran artists, offer deeply personal ways to explore the experiences, diversity, resilience, creativity, and humor of women Veterans.
We’ll hear keynote plenary addresses from VA Chief of Staff Vivieca Wright Simpson and Lt. Gen. Patricia Horoho (Ret.) – first woman and first nurse to serve as the Army’s surgeon general. Breakout sessions will feature speakers from public, private and nonprofit organizations across a wide array of industries to promote dialogue and collaboration.
With an anticipated 800 women Veterans and supporters participating in this event, it is the largest summit ever hosted by the VA’s Center for Women Veterans. It will be a terrific opportunity to engage in dialogue about issues impacting women Veterans, share women-focused research, and connect with community partners in a lively, interactive environment. Among other exciting opportunities available during the summit, attendees will be able to record their stories for the Library of Congress’ Veterans History Project, tour a Mobile Vet Center, submit resumes to companies including IBM and BP, document the Moments that Matter in their lives with VA’s Veterans Experience Office and enroll in VA’s Million Veteran Program.
This event is supported by a range of generous partners including The American Legion, AMVETS, Blinded Veterans Association, BP, Comcast, Disabled American Veterans, General Electric, Health Net Federal Services, IBM, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, Military Officers Association of America, Military Order of the Purple Heart, Optum, Paralyzed Veterans of America, USAA, Veterans Canteen Service, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Vietnam Veterans of America and Walgreens. We are so grateful for their support, along with other organizations that are providing exhibitor tables or sending speakers for panels on topics ranging from employment and entrepreneurship to culture change to mental and reproductive health.

If you previously registered and your plans have now changed and you are unable to attend, please go to the registration site, click “already registered” in the upper right corner, enter your email address and confirmation code, and click the “unregister” button. This courtesy will allow us to open additional slots to women Veterans on the wait list – your sisters-in-arms will thank you!

Would love to see a follow-up story about the women from the summit that volunteered at the shelter near the conference. It was on the local news in Houston.

I have been sick for a while and just getting this email notification. Was the Summit cancelled because of the hurricane? If rescheduled will you re-open the registration?
Me too I have only ever been to a state Women’s Veteran Conference in 2014 wish I could go to one too
We need to have emails sent out to all woman veterans so we can’t decide to attend or not. I would have come from Phoenix, and even driven others who wanted to share a ride.
Is there a “National Men Veterans Summit”? I’d like to attend that.
