Veterans excel during and after their military careers as members of teams. Whether leading, following, or supporting in teams, we stay connected and perform under stressful situations. So what do we do when we can’t get boots on the ground and see our friends and teammates?

As a VA partner, RallyPoint has nearly 2 million members. Those members have created almost 6 million online posts about military and Veteran life. Here are 5 things you can do on RallyPoint to connect to other members of the broader Veteran community:

  1.  Sign up to claim your free profile and see what Veterans are talking about. Take pride in the aspects of your military service you want to share on your profile. Build out your profile with your branch, rank, military specialty, component and other info important to you. Then you’ll get suggestions for connections to people and discussions that are a fit for you.

  2. Proactively search for fellow Veterans, caregivers, family members or survivors you know. Use this search tool to find and connect with others. You can search by branch, rank, unit, duty station, current civilian company, school, location, and many other filters.
  3. Ask questions about anything of interest to you. RallyPoint is a great place to get answers from Veterans you trust and with whom you can build relationships. RallyPoint members ask questions and discuss topics ranging from pre-service through retirement and beyond. Ask a question here.

  4. Answer questions from others. RallyPoint members ask lots of questions like, “How does the VA disability rating work?” and “How do I find out about military technology jobs?” Use your experience to help others and pay it forward. Take a look and answer other RallyPoint members’ questions here.
  5. Get tips from other Veterans on staying connected. Your RallyPoint experience is what you make it. You can connect with other Veterans around the world about any shared interest: the growing women Veteran population, whether the Marines should combine with the Army, RallyPoint itself, or even the birds.

    I’m willing to bet there’s more to be told about this, but enough has been told already. The “Chain Of Command” has a purpose and should be followed regardless. More than half the world is our enemy and they listen very carefully to anything said by or about our military for signs of weakness. “Loose lips sink ships”, literally.

    Civilians don’t understand how critically important things like unity, camaraderie, esprit de corps, and chain of command are to we who serve(d) in the military. I’m retired Air Force, but I understand the issues of what just happened aboard the ‘Teddy’ Roosevelt. Anytime you go out of the military chain of command, you betray much of what we stand for. Readiness and need to know are critical underpinnings of a strong unit. Any time we go out of the chain of command, we risk letting our enemies see possible chinks in our capabilities, and that’s never a good thing. The mindset between military and civilian thinking is foreign. We need, for the most part, to keep civilians out of our day to day business. If we don’t, the result will be the total disarray that just happened! Let’s tighten up the ranks my fellow senior enlisted folks!

      You are right. I understood perfectly what just happened. Unfortunately, we may see a public opinion change our command procedure.

    I tried to set up an account, but then it told me there was no account. I could not log in. I tried Facebook and it said I did not have a FB account. So why could I not log in? Also, I have been on Face Book for many years.
    So, I guess I cannot use this service.

      Did the Capt. talk to the Rear Admiral that was aboard his ship about the crew getting COVID-19? If so, why didn’t the Admiral get the point and take action? Looking in, it seems like the chain might have been followed at first, but maybe the next one up the ladder didn’t care and chose to do nothing. At that point, the Captain felt he had to protect his crew and go even higher.
      This important issue seems to have been ignored. The Ass’t Secretary seemed to be uncaring also and was an impompous figurehead.

      Great idea. Poorly designed website. Not user friendly. Will not let me set up an account and will not let me log in.
