Reviews from just this year were sent in from Arizona, Florida, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, North Carolina, Virginia and more. The range isn’t surprising. As the largest health care system in the country, we employ professionals at over 1,250 locations across the United States and associated territories.
Nurses, pharmacists, physicians, and social workers are among those who offered their anonymous input as to what makes our team worth joining. And of those who review VA on Glassdoor, 70% would recommend starting a career with us.
The best benefits
A social worker in Battle Creek, Michigan, said, “The benefits are great.” And benefits were also among the key comments made by a certified nursing assistant in Madison, Wisconsin; a food service worker in Buffalo, New York; an HVAC technician in Louisville, Kentucky; and a registered nurse in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
In fact, more than 10% of reviews highlight the benefits available to our employees, enough that Glassdoor cites it as one of the most frequent “pros” to working at VA, and with good reason. The best balance
A physician in Tampa, Florida, noted that the reasonable workload, as well as the paid time off and federal holidays, contributed to their positive assessment, while both a registered nurse in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and a management analyst in Ann Arbor, Michigan, cited the “work/life balance” offered by our organization.

The best mission
Another common theme among reviews is the mission of VA: to honor America’s Veterans by providing exceptional health care that improves their health and well-being.
A licensed professional mental health counselor in Bay Pines, Florida, cited the “important work” done by our team, while a hospital chaplain in Indianapolis, Indiana, said, “It is so wonderful to serve Veterans each day.”
A pharmacist in Miami, Florida, said, “Dedicating your time to this specific population is extremely rewarding.” However, a nurse in Jacksonville, Florida, may have said it best: “There are no cons when serving Veterans.”
The best place to work
As one of our directors from San Diego, California, put it, our organization “is geared to meet the specific patient needs of Veterans,” while an occupational therapist in Minneapolis, Minnesota, noted that the “strong team and trustworthy administration” made it so “there are no cons.”
In fact, when asked about any potential negatives, a registered dietitian in Prescott, Arizona, said, “Can’t think of any at the moment. I love my job.”

A Healthcare system that is underutilized, has some of the highest waittimes and sentinel events in the VA. The benefit of work/life balance with limited immunity comes with a duty that VA Ann Arbor leadership and the providers they train continue to fail at. Some VA sytems are good, some are not and then there is Ann Arbor, a system that is just evil and woke to the point in which much of the staff treat patients like dirt and they refuse treatment to veterans they don’t like or who report misconduct by the staff.
