WASHINGTON – The Department of Veterans Affairs has conditionally approved a grant for nearly $7 million to Massachusetts to assist with the installation of a new fire alarm system at the Chelsea Soldiers’ Home.
“I’m grateful for President Bush’s support in ensuring that veterans receive the respect and care they have earned,” said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Anthony J. Principi. “This grant reflects the federal-state partnership which is honoring that commitment to care for the men and women who have served in uniform.”
Before receiving the grant, which will pay up to 65 percent of the fire alarm system’s installation cost, the state has agreed to meet certain federal requirements within 180 days. The overall cost of the project is approximately $10.7 million.
The Massachusetts Soldiers’ Home provides acute hospital care, domiciliary care, long-term care, physical and occupational therapy, laboratory, radiology, outpatient and social services for eligible Massachusetts veterans. Additional information about the Chelsea Soldiers’ Home can be found on the Web at http://www.state.ma.us/sec/cis/cisvet/vethouse.htm or by calling (617) 884-5660, ext. 210.
