WASHINGTON – The Department of Veterans Affairs has awarded an $820,000 grant to the state of Rhode Island to replace the roof at the Rhode Island Veterans Home in Bristol.

“These grants reflect the federal-state partnership that is honoring our commitment to care for the men and women who have served in uniform,” said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Anthony J. Principi. “These partnerships allow more veterans to receive the respect and care that they have earned.”

The grant will pay up to 65 percent of the cost to replace the roof of the north building at the 339-bed nursing care facility.  The overall cost of the project is approximately $1.25 million.

Information about the Rhode Island Veterans Home can be found on the Web at http://www.dhs.state.ri.us/dhs/dvethom.htm or by calling (401) 253-8000.
