WASHINGTON — Senior leaders of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) met recently with four Vietnamese officials to discuss the benefits and programs offered by the U.S. government to its veterans.
“We are proud of America’s history of caring for its military veterans,” said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Anthony J. Principi. “VA is pleased to share information about our veterans programs with delegates from other nations.”
VA officials provided information about the department’s health care, compensation, pension and burial programs, as well as an in-depth explanation of VA’s leadership in the field of tel-medicine.
The delegation was led by Lieutenant General Tran Hanh, a current member of Vietnam’s National Assembly and former Deputy Minister of Defense. Also attending were Nguyen Duc Hung, assistant minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, defense attache Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Giao and Dzung Viet Vu, first secretary from the Vietnamese Embassy in Washington, D.C.
VA was one of several agencies visited by the four officials, who are part of a larger delegation of Vietnamese National Assembly members currently visiting U.S. government offices, including Congress. In recent months, VA has shared information about its programs with representatives of many countries, including the Czech Republic, China, Jordan, Japan, Romania, South Korea, the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada.
