How would you like to win a shiny new Toyota pickup truck?   

Veterans, active-duty military, and their spouses can take home a 2023 Toyota Tundra by entering the “Committed to America’s Heroes Sweepstakes.” Hiring Our Heroes, which connects the military community with American businesses to create economic opportunity and a strong and diversified workforce, is carrying out the contest in partnership with Toyota. 

The last two winners entered the contest after reading about it in a VA publication. Army Veteran Ernest Knight won a 2021 Toyota 4Runner and Air Force Veteran Adlai Ceja took home a 2022 Toyota RAV4 hybrid. Will this year mark a VA trifecta?

The fifth annual Hiring Our Heroes’ “Committed to America’s Heroes Sweepstakes” is now underway and will close on Dec. 1, 2022. The drawing will be held on Dec. 7. There’s no cost to enter. Just click here to submit your application. 

Eligible contestants 

  • Must be legal residents of and currently reside in the contiguous United States. 
  • Must be people serving or have served in the active duty, National Guard or Reserve components of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, or Coast Guard and, if discharged or released, have an honorable discharge or are married to a current member of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, or Coast Guard or their National Guard or Reserve components. 
  • Have a valid driver’s license.

    It would be great to get a new vehicle. I am a Vietnam era veteran.’ I think every veteran would like to get something for free but whoever wins good luck to them. on Veterans Day we put on a music program, “America the beautiful” saluting all the veterans who served in the military.in this program we salute all branches of the service: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and the Coast Guard we also mentioned, the Green Berets and the Rangers. perform over 186 musical programs to the senior communities, in Michigan.

    I am a disabled veteran who is in desperate need of a vehicle to get me back and forth to the VA. I live in a small town in Mississippi and my VA appointments are about an hour and a half away.     My husband is a Viet Nam veteran and we would feel honored and humbled to have a new truck. He has a 1995 Ford diesel F250 that needs a lot of work. A new truck would truly be a blessing as he is disabled and not mobile enough now to make the repairs that his truck needs.

    I simply want to say thank you. I am ashamed of many of our country’s large corporations as well as individual citizens who could care less about the people who put their lives on the line as soon as they sign the papers when joining. There’s no way to predict what the future holds, but veterans are more apt to suffer long term to life altering issues than the vast majority of other people.
    I “LOVE” the fact that our congressional reps/senators all receive a “golden parachute” retirement, pension etc yet the vast majority of them have never served and there’s still quite a few who “bought” their way out of being drafted while the draft was in effect. Compare what they receive to what Disabled or retired veterans receive!! Anyone else see something radically wrong with this picture??
    I’d very much like to win this truck, or any as a disabled veteran there’s simply no way I could ever afford to buy a new one. I’ve been staying on top of my ’98 Chevy pick-up because I HAVE TO. Sure would be nice to win a new one!
    I STRONGLY feel that if you are NOT willing to put your life on the line in order to protect your family, friends, your way of life, your freedom etc then you don’t deserve ANY of the protections you receive from men & women who ARE willing to possibly put themselves in the “line of fire”. They ought to be taxed at a higher rate to better fund veteran healthcare AFTER they’re out of the military. I also believe that UNLESS you had a LEGITIMATE medical issue that would prevent you from joining any branch of the service then you shouldn’t be allowed to hold ANY US political position, only State level.

      Hello, I can’t afford a new truck. My current truck 2000, Dodge is showing it’s age. I was force to retire due to a stroke working for VBA. I would love to win a new Toyota truck for better transportation.
      Being a 100% disabled, I always enjoyed working with and for veterans. Depression sucks! But, it’s good to be able to share with and in a group of veterans with similar situations suchlike Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing (PHWFF).

    My husband and I are both veterans. He retired. Still works, always will, I’m sure, drives a rusted out 21 year old Ford Ranger that our youngest son keeps running for his dad.     Thank you for this opportunity. I’m currently Serving in the Alabama National Guard. After my last deployment my wife found me a pre-owned 2011 Tundra that I was fortunate enough to ;urchase because it was the make and model vehicle that I always wanted. Since then its has definitly pulled more than its weight for my family (still love my truck). Its currently more than tight with finances in my family and it would be a true blessing to win this truck.

    Served in Viet Nam and Cambodia 1969-1970. Was wounded in action Aug. 12, 1969. 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, H Co. Second Squadron. Went on to serve as a civilian working at the Fayetteville VA and Womack Army Medical Center as an RN/Paramedic. My heroes were our WWII Vets. I knew that if I could make it through one year in Viet Nam, I would be home free unlike our WWII Vets who were in it for the long haul. True heroes. I was also fortunate enough to take care of a Korean war Congressional Medal of Honor recipient. That was a true honor! I, like many of my other brothers and sisters in war, carry the unseen scars that run deep and will forever be there. God bless each and every one who have served and are serving.

    I’m still paying for my truck that I bought for 10,000 plus tax. I spent over half of that just to keep it running so I can get to work and other important places. It should be paid off by now, but the money I spend on keeping it up has prevented me from doing it. I recently lost my wife on my son graduation day. It’s just him and I in the home. I would like to travel to see relatives but can’t afford to fly and can’t drive because I don’t trust my truck. My son needs to see his grandmother and cousin’s, and and grandmother. We can really use a new vehicle. If I don’t win, it would be nice if you could suggest a place where I can get a a vehicle with a not so good credit score. I have been working as a home health aide assisting other veterans that are home bound or that require help at home in order to not be in placement or assisted living due to health issues.     I served in the Navy for 4 yrs. As a Hospital Corpsman/lab tech assistant at Pensacola Hospital. Terminated my shore duty and attended Field Med school and was attached to the 3rd Marine in Okinawa. We went on a floatilla to Jungle training school , landing practice and then the coast ofVietnam. Ended my tour at Camp Pendelton Dispensary as lab tech. and ambulance attendant for dependents. Served 25 years on Rhinelander Police Department as Community officer and Officer friendly.     Hello, I am a USAF Veteran. Fortunate to have served during the Cold War. Much respect to all whom have served in the line of fire. Loved my AFSC as a C141B Crewchief. I was one of very few females on the flightline at that time. I was fortunate enough to have been extremely mechanically inclined making my transition into a male oriented job classification that much easier. Had my wonderful and not so wonderful moments as life does, but over all my military experience was a positive one.

    I Wish all efforts for existing Soldiers and Veterans were put into saving suicidal veterans found and discovered before it happens. If we can step on the moon in 1969 then why cant suicides be detected after all of them that have happened. The research that must be available from all the friends and relatives should be able to be used to profile possible suicides. It just breaks my heart. My uncle drank himself to death after Pearl Harbor, My friend Wesley Nance Drank himself to death after killing the enemy in Nam. It is in the news all the time today.     I am a retired army veteran and for the past 16 years I have had to rent a room in a friend’s house, and still am. I have been trying for the past 6 years to get a place to live in North Carolina, east of Raleigh. I am still staying in a room in a friend’s house. It causes lots of stress and issues. I have no vehicle. I have to rely on using one of my friend’s vehicles to get back and forth to a work at a job I recently started at Amazon. I retired in 1995 and have yet to be able to own my own house and not rent someone elses. It causes me a lot of stress and anxiety.

    I will never forget the moment I got my orders and began jumping for joy thinking that I was on my way to San Diego, CA. A friend told me to take a closer look. It was not what I wanted.

    Nevertheless, I went to EAFB, served my whole 4-year tour, and met some of the GREATEST PEOPLE IN THE WORLD!

    It has been over 45 years but I still look at the weather (so cold) for EAFB during the WINTER!!

    My husband is a veteran and on SS. We recently had a bad experience with buying a vehicle after our new vehicle was hit by a deer and totaled out. I work at the VA and have no way to go. I came and stayed with a friend just to get to work. We are from Collins, Ga and I drive to Dublin everyday to the VA. It has been a nightmare with us, because the vehicle that we just got, the motor went out and the shop found some other issues with the vehicle. Haven’t had the vehicle a week. It’s been aweful. The warranty still hasn’t approved the fixing on the vehicle because of the underlying issues. This would be great if possible. We still would be happy for the person who would win if we do not.

    I spent 10 years in 2 branches. 2 combat stripes.I’ve never owned a new vehicle and I’m going on 60. I’ve tried but life’s been to hard on me. Always getting crapped on no matter how hard I try to make things better. I’m only human, maybe just a piece of trash on this earth(so it seems) meant to live in misery (at least I’ve succeeded at that, right?).
    Yeah, it would be sweet to win this. It’ll be the first time I’ve ever owned something brand new….
    I’ve been electrocuted, suffocated in the military, and now I’m dealing with PTSD, arthritis, PVC’s, PVE’s….I should thank my lucky stars, right? The VBA keeps denying me my rightfully earned benefits (they even admit that I have PTSD from the stated injuries) for some reason..
    I need this vehicle, my only other used vehicle is 22+ years old. I’m tired of living day to day depressed AF not knowing when it’ll break down and then really be screwed…
    I’m so tired..
    So tired. Since the VBA/VA broke their promise, I can only hope to win this since I can’t afford one..

    I served in the military during the time that I was raising 3 children. One was born with special needs. Once I exited I joined the Columbia Police Department and served as a public servant. When I retired I opened a consignment store that was affordable for anyone. I offered free layaway and gave free wigs to anyone who was going through any life changing illness. I also donated to many people in need who needed basis needs. I have been a public servant all my life. Now at the age of 63 I would love to say that I finally have a new vehicle.     As a NAVSPECWAR operator with Beach Jumper Unit, I served in country Vietnam from 02/1968 to 06/1972. We served in I-Corp, III-Corp and IV-Corp as Cover and Deception, Psychological Warfare and Electronic Warfare advisors. Our moto: “Any Place – Any Platform – Anytime”. We too had Sensor Application Team members. After my time in the Navy, I owned several pickup trucks, a true southern heritage. In 2013 my in country service caught up with me, Agent Orange reared its head and kicked my ass! Out of work for 3 years, I lost my truck and ability to maintain full time, physically challenging employment. As I continue to recover (not possible) from this “long slow walk with death”, I dream of owning another truck to go hunting (with a camera now), fishing with my grand children (for whom I pray daily that they do not show symptoms of Agent Orange), and glamping with the family. I am sure that the day is fast approaching that assisted walking equipment or wheel chair will be required for me to get around. If so, a truck will be a God send. Thank you for allowing me to vent.     I had a pick up truck for 18.5 years both in the Marine Corps and in my retired life. We loved that truck and used it for just about everything. With all of the things I do that require a truck I’d be ecstatic to have another one. Renting trucks and trailers for everything I do could end with me saving all of those costs. I, too, served in Desert Shield and Desert Storm and am service connected with medical conditions. Whomever might win this truck I’ll be happy for them, however, I would love to win it myself.     I have never owned a new vehicles my entire life, and I’m in my 60’s. Never had the opportunity nor the resources where I could afford a new vehicle, let alone
    own one even 5 years old. I feel guilty and a little embarrassed about making a comment on this. It would be absolutely amazing to me and the odds are about
    the same as winning the lottery. But as the saying goes, you can’t win unless you enter or buy a ticket.

    I served during the VN era late 60’s.
    I am classified disabled. I own a small General Contracting Company in Washington State. I am currently helping two young Air Force Veterans build their newly formed General Contracting Company (June of 2022). Neither one owns a truck only compact used cars. In my effort to help them get up and running, I pick up and deliver all their materials. They are both very upright, God Loving, honorable, True American Gentlemen. If I was to with this truck, I would gift the truth to them to help them on the way to success. I know I can not help much longer, I am almost 75 and due to my disabilities I am finding it harder and harder to help them. My truck is almost 20 years old but she should last me until I go home or can’t drive anymore.

    The VA not only sent me to school to obtain my MPA degree, but turned me on to a great career in government service working for the Navy Department and the Defense Department.     I have a 1993 Chevy Silverado – all original (except tires, battery, transmission upgrade) 129,000 original miles, looks like an un-garaged 30-yr old, runs like new. It has been totaled due to a rear-ender that bent the bumper and a small dent in quarter panel. A few other nicks and bruises like the disabled VN vet. If I win the Tundra, this truck will go free to another vet who needs a pick-up. I will make sure it has a current state inspection at hand over.

    Good morning everyone,

    I served faithfully for over 26 years on active service and served three tours I Iraq.

    My truck just gave out a month ago and living on a ranch that I started from scratch to help with my PTSD but I didn’t start this ranch just for me but for those who are just like me. My plans are to build tiny fully disabled equipped houses to give those just like me a peaceful place to visit and assist them to ease their mind. I live on a 115 acre ranch bordered by forestry and state land with wildlife all over. I want to start a hunting program as well to give those a chance without competition from all those who able to hunt without a disability.

    The truck I just bought is costly because I needed a truck able to work hard and haul hay for all our animals.

    I would greatly appreciate a truck that comes without a payment so that I can focus that money into my dream for those who want to dream without being in fear of their nightmares.

    Thank you and especially all those who served faithfully and with courage to go to places all that fear to go.

    Good to see this kind of activity. A recent action is to qualify some military and I expect that might be extended to veterans too, as commercial truck drivers. I know that in northern North Dakota last month the farms were crying for all kinds of drivers for their trucks and the nationwide shortage or commercial truck drivers might be an opportunity for those interested.

    I’ve been working in the veteran community as a Veterans Service Officer shortly after separating from the Marine Corps in 2014. The Corps changed my life, but becoming a VSO saved my life after losing my way due to loss of identity and struggling to accept help with mental health. I’m grateful to work alongside several non-profit organizations that serve Active Duty, Retirees, and veterans ranging from free counseling for PTSD/MST (Vet Centers), Swords to Plowshares (employment, housing, legal, etc.), and Hiring our Heroes. Our mission is the same: service after service. Two of my recent transitioning service members informed me that they have firm job offers after reaching out to Hiring Our Heroes and the assistance they were provided. Receiving those phone calls is a very satisfying and heartwarming feeling. This is another amazing opportunity that will change someone’s life. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

    That is awesome for a veteran to get a new truck. Even when we go somewhere my caregiver helps with that. They can use the truck to help a veteran to get around to their appointments. I am at 90% that last 10% the hardest to aquire, this is a good incentive, somewhat. Government needs to help more for all veterans, especially those who have had hard times.

    I didn’t know most 100% of disabled veterans don’t drive. Where did you get your statics? In California, there are over 80,000 free disabled veteran license plates that have been issued. I am 100% disabled and have one of the earlier plates. I would guess that more than 90% of those 100% disabled veterans drive their vehicles. And yes it is a great vehicle but since I am going to win, why bother to fill out the application? I already filled out the application so you will lose.

    Win a pickup truck. It won’t fit my narrow driveway with a couple inches on each side as my 2015 Subaru Outback does. However, the lower end Toyota of the same outward appearance (with differences) with a nice towing capacity for my little trailer and bike holder. Is it possible (if a winner) to do a little trading to get something that will work? Near the end of October, I head to the Phoenix Arizona area for the winter, and spend the summer in the top of California near the town of Mount Shasta. Is it possible to pick it up in Yreka CA (a Toyota dealer) when we get back in the spring, instead of having to re-register in California (we stay the longest there, so that becomes our home state)? So many little problems to resolve, but if I manage to get the lucky draw, that is what I have to deal with to fit the driveway without tearing out the sidewall of a tire, as the curb on the driveway does a great job of that, as our house is on a 11% grade that crosses the front of the house! We inherited it – would have never bought it though.

I have one and have had it since California started issuing them. While there is not a requirement that the person driving the vehicle be a veteran, I’ll bet most of the drivers, or even 90% or more are the veteran with his or herself having a 100% disability that qualified for the license.

    It is very wrong for the VA or it’s staff to urge veterans to enter this sweepstakes. It will result in your personal information being used by the Chamber of Commerce and they can according to their policy sell or give it to anyone they like. The opt out method makes it so diffult to opt out that it actually is not a real opt out choice. I will no longer shop at websites where they sell my data to more than a few trackers used to improve their service. The Chamber of Commerce comes right out in the privacy policy to state they feel no obligation to honor requests not to be tracked.

    I am ashamed for the VA to stoop to this level. Toyota and the chamber are using the VA and what first might appear to be generous is just another marketing tool using veterans trust in VA to obtain our personal information. Most vets will jump at a free car and wont read the long lack of privacy notice. I intend to contact Senator Patty Murray and VA Director Dennis McDonough to call foul on the VA selling us out for a few pieces of silver.

    I will also research whether in addition there are any payments going from the chamber or Toyota to any VA personnel or to a VA affiliate. Actually giving away this car while collecting and spreading our personal information is a cheap way for them to obtain it. I also intend to contact Toyota headquarters to tell them there are bringing dishonor to their company by allowing the chamber to use veterans to collect information that will be used to sell to chamber members or really anyone. You could drive a Mack truck through the giant holes in their Non Privacy Policy masquerading as Privacy.

    If someone wants to give something away to Vets in honor of our service they should just do it and not prey on us for financial gain. If I am able to shine a light on this practice it will cost Toyota when people learn what they are taking from us. It is a marketing scam if there ever was one. The shame is that the VA is not only allowing it but actually promoting it. That is why I intend to find out who in the VA has authorized this scheme and why they think they are helping us by tricking us into giving our personal information to someone who states they will do anything they want to do with veterans names, phone numbers and email addresses.

    You cheapen your mission by promoting a cheap publicity stunt that harms veterans and gives the chamber thousands of veterans personal information at a cheaper cost than if they paid for it from a data broker. I will never trust anything I see from the so called VA News again knowing that their coziness with private interests outweighs their devotion to those who served. As a totally and permanently disabled combat veteran I am outraged that anyone in the actual VA chain of command has knowledgeably authorized this marketing scheme that is without honor. The VA works for US citizens with congressional oversight and I urge anyone who gets to read this to join me in defending other veterans who might trust messages when the letters VA appear in the publication. You cannot trust this site to defend your interests. We must defend them ourselves.

    Ask your Congressional delegation and VA officials to halt use of our personal data. You have a better chance of winning at a Las Vegas slot machine than you have in winning a sweepstakes like this one. They even require me to give them personal information I dont trust them with to make this comment. They also only show the two most recent reviews that they allow to appear thereby limiting other veterans from reading comments or learn what is going on here. Sad but true that the VA honors veterans by letting private interests like the Chamber of Commerce use them to sell us products.

      Hi Michael!! You never know, your chances of winning are just as grand as anyone else’s! I seriously think we should set up a carpool thing for us all in each state, maybe Toyota can consider this, and have more sweepstakes! That way even if your license expires, one of us can still come and get ya if you don’t win and one of us do!! If you do, take pics and post em!!!!

    Great opportunity to get a Great Vehicle; the only problem is that most 100% disabled veterans do not have licenses to drive and need to rely on someone else to transport them where they have to go! Maybe they should be given a higher priority. Thank you for letting me blow off so much steam, but few people consider disabled veterans.

      Speaking as someone who’s lucky enough not to be disabled, I fully agree. More that that, the vehicle should be equipped with whatever extras the disabled Vet needs (wheelchair ramps or whatever) and customized to the winners needs.

      Hi David!! My husband is disabled vet as well, I have to drive him everywhere, so I get what your saying. Our only car lost its transmission 3 days ago, and winter is coming here in the mountains. I lost my job, so there’s no replacing it now. If we win, maybe we can all set up a carpool and I can help out with the driving needs??!!!

      20 years active duty US COAST GUARD AND USAF COMBINED served in Vietnam 1968-1969, active military service 1956-1977.
      The VA has taken care of my health needs tremendously well! I’am grateful for that I’ m age 83 and I’am a goodlife member of the VFW, and the AMERICAN LEGION and the DAV organizations, I’m a proud American and Believe strongly in the All mighty GOD and country and conservative values.

      I totally agree with David Michael. I’m also a 100% Disabled Veteran (SCI – Tetraplegic – C6/C7 Complete Fracture – AND- Epilepsy). So, no driving here… I feel your pain, Brother!

      Them being given “a higher priority” would be an unfair advantage and likely make the entire contest illegal, bud. And I speak as one–I’m at 100% and I have a license and drive. Take it easy David.
