July 4, 2026, marks 250 years of independence. In honor of this milestone, VA is partnering with America250 to honor one amazing Veteran per week for the next 250 weeks leading up to July 4, 2026.
This week’s America250 salute is Navy Veteran Vincent Capodanno, who received a Medal of Honor for his actions during battle in Vietnam.
This week’s America250 salute is Army Air Forces Veteran William Edwin “Ed” Dyess, who survived the Bataan Death March and led an escape.
This week’s America250 salute is Marine Veteran Angela Salinas, who was the highest-ranking woman in the service at the time of her retirement.
This week’s America250 salute is Army Veteran Sidney Shachnow, a special forces commander who oversaw U.S. forces during the Berlin Wall fall.
This week’s America250 salute is Navy Veteran Joseph T. O’Callahan, who served as a chaplain in World War II and received a Medal of Honor.
This week’s America250 salute is Army Air Forces Veteran Leonard Zerlin, a turret gunner on D-Day who received a Silver Star.
