Attention, Veterans: Your Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) recently launched the new Commissary CLICK2GO mobile app for Apple and Android devices to make your shopping experience even more convenient.
Serving the military community
Your Commissary’s mission is focused on selling groceries at a significant savings, while enhancing quality of life and readiness. We set high standards for ourselves as we deliver this vital military benefit, because we strive to be the grocery provider of choice for our eligible customers. Realizing this vision means that offering high savings on quality products is only the start; we must also make that experience easier and more convenient for our customers to access.
Savings is only a tap away
That’s why we’re happy to announce that savings is now only a tap away on your smartphone or tablet with our new Commissary CLICK2GO mobile app. CLICK2GO is available for download from the iOS App Store or the Google Play Store. The app allows you to place and pay for CLICK2GO orders and offers convenience features to streamline your shopping experience, including accessing account information, order history with saved items and lists, and digital receipts.
Your Commissary also recently rolled out the ability to accept MILITARY STAR card payments for CLICK2GO orders. However, this payment option is not yet available for the app because it is very new and we did not want to delay releasing the rest of the app to our customers while we worked to add this functionality. Commissary shoppers can rest assured that we are working to test and deploy this feature as soon as possible.
“A lot of commissary customers love the convenience of using online features to boost their physical shopping experience,” said Willie Watkins, DeCA’s eCommerce director. “And, with our mobile app, they have even more options at their fingertips—wherever they are—with their personal devices.”
Other valuable resources accessible to customers through the new app include:
- Savings resources, such as viewing your local Commissary sales flyer and product promotions, clipping digital coupons for the Commissary Rewards Card and learning about Commissary store brands.
- Cooking resources, such as recipes and dietitian approved meal solutions.
- Product information, including making personalized searches and viewing ingredients and nutritional facts for each product.
Customer response
Although winter often welcomes chilly weather, the launch of the Commissary CLICK2GO app during the holiday season has been warmly embraced by commissary customers who have provided positive feedback during testing and since release.
“We’ve tested our mobile app for several months and received good reviews,” Watkins said. “Now through these apps, our [customers] have more convenience and flexibility when they use their commissary benefit.”
Here’s what some of our customers had to say in their reviews:
- ★★★★★ This weekend I can be present with my kids! Thank you for creating an app that is easy to use, shows the Green Thumb options for quickly healthy meal building. Saves us time and money! -2RiversTaylor
- ★★★★★ “What a great service to [use]. I am a service-connected disabled Marine that does not walk very well. Shopping is an exhausting chore for me. So easy doing it this way. Special thanks to Richard! Always a pleasure to see and talk to him!” -Michael Maguire
- ★★★★★ “This app is so efficient and needed! I am so glad we have this now. It was super easy to check out and add my coupons to my order.” -Mommy Mogul

When you entered the military they made it clear that you had to serve 20 years minimum in order to retire from the military to receive 50% of your base pay and commissary and PX privileges at the time of discharge from military service. Or you had to have been medically retired or have 20 years reserves or served 20 years with the national guard in order to receive retirement benefits from the military (DOD)

New services for Veterans , allows any Service Connected Veteran also shop at the Commissary and PX, as long as they have the VHIC Card. All you need is ID and your DD214 with Service Connected Disability line on it. As far as I know, you may only apply for it at a VA Health Facility in the States, no Overseas Facilities are set up yet. To remedy this , a Service Connected Veteran must go to the States and apply for the VHIC. You do not have to have a high percent rating, just a Service Connected Disability. If you reside overseas, and obtain the VHIC Card, you must register with Post Access Authorities for your area , then Customs and the Country Customs Office. They will collect the Sales Tax for your Country of Residence, ie Germany. This must be renewed Yearly, but your VHIC is valid longer, so it is not a hard process. Hope this helps, and you can find out more through the VA Page.
I believe you have to be 100% disabled through the VA to be eligible for the military ID.
I’m a vet and don’t have a military I’d. It won’t let me sign up without it. Any ideas? Do I even qualify of commissary privileges?
I believe you can get a VA ID, I would visit your local VSO to get assistance
VA has stopped issuing actual cards now I believe. They have gone electronic with it. Last I saw when I logged in online to the VA you can get a electronic ID. I believe you just send them a picture and it gets uploaded and generated somehow. I personally have not done it but it might be worth checking out.
If you didn’t retire, or you don’t have a service connected disability, you aren’t eligible to shop at the commissary. You can shop at Base Exchanges. Here’s a link: https://www.commissaries.com/customer-service/faqs-listing?field_faq_categories_target_id%5B0%5D=37
Am I eligible to shop in the commissary?
Authorized commissary patrons as defined by Department of Defense Instruction 1330.17, Dod Commissary Program, include active duty, Guard and Reserve members, military retirees, Medal of Honor recipients, 100 percent disabled veterans, and their authorized family members. Veterans with a Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) documented service-connected disability rating became eligible for commissary shopping beginning January 1, 2020. Please refer to this instruction for a complete list of authorized commissary patrons, including organizations and activities, along with qualifications and any exceptions such as access to U.S. commissaries overseas.
The Defense Commissary Agency has no authority to determine whether a person is authorized to shop in the commissary. If you believe you may be entitled to commissary privileges, visit your local installation Pass and ID office for information about military benefits and to obtain an ID card consistent with your entitlements.
The CLICK2GO app does require a military ID number, and it will NOT let a disabled veteran to set up an account log in with out the military ID number. You state that it’s not required, and yet you provide no information on how to bypass this requirement for setting up a new account. Could you provide more information on how to set up an account without a military ID?
Well, I”m a retired Marine whom the VA has rated as 60% disabled, and since as far as I know the nearest commissary is approximately 600 miles away, this is kind of irrelevant. And this doesn’t say a thing about delivery.
I am a veteran and tried to sign up for Click2go and did not have a Military ID so I could not
correction this changed effective Jan 1, 2020, to include all veteran disability ratings. but you still have to be officially classed with a disability rating of at least 0% with the VA.

Where do I find the answers to these questions ?
Here’s a link: https://news.va.gov/109934/defense-commissary-privileges/
And here’s a snippet of information: “Commissary shopping privileges are available to the following groups:
Veterans with any service-connected disabilities documented by VA
Veterans who are Purple Heart recipients
Veterans who are former prisoners of war
Individuals assessed, approved and designated as the primary family caregivers of eligible Veterans under VA’s Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers”
How do I know if I am eligible to receive commissary privileges??
Sir, I’m Courtney Rogers, DeCA Consumer Advocate, and I appreciate you taking the time to read this blog post and share your inquiry with us!
Unfortunately, no one at DeCA can directly answer whether or not you qualify for commissary privileges, because we do not have the authority to confer commissary privileges to anyone, or to change any of the laws or regulations governing commissary access. DoD Instruction (DoDI) 1330.17 lists the individuals, organizations and activities entitled to unlimited commissary privileges, except when prohibited by treaty or other international agreements in foreign countries.
In addition, veterans with a Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)-documented service-connected disability rating and some other individuals became eligible for commissary shopping privileges beginning January 1, 2020 under the Purple Heart and Disabled Veterans Equal Access Act of 2018. You can visit our website to learn more about this and find out how to proceed if you believe you meet at least one of these criteria: https://www.commissaries.com/extended-eligibility.
If you believe that you may be entitled to commissary privileges based on other criteria listed in DoDI 1330.17, then we recommend that you visit your local installation Pass and ID office for information about military benefits and to obtain an ID card consistent with your entitlements. If you are able to confirm that you are an authorized commissary customer, then we hope you’ll be able to shop with us soon! Have a wonderful day.
It ask for a rewards number which I don’t have. And it tells me my SSN is not valid as my military number!
I have never shopped at the Commissary before
Mr. Braddock,
Thank you for your interest in shopping at the commissary and creating a Commissary CLICK2GO account! Since you have never shopped with us before, I want you to know that if you are a veteran with a service-connected disability and you don’t yet have a VHIC reflecting this to identify you as authorized to shop at the commissary, then you can visit our website to learn more about how to apply for one from the VA: https://www.commissaries.com/extended-eligibility.
As you create your Commissary CLICK2GO account, we do not require you to enter a Commissary Rewards Card number, but we do give you the option. We encourage you to consider signing up for this program to help maximize your savings. You can learn more about this program on our website, as well: https://www.commissaries.com/rewards-and-savings/rewards-card.
And you can rest assured that you don’t need to enter your Social Security Number in order to create your account for the Commissary CLICK2GO app/site; instead, your shopping privileges must be verified using your DoD ID number. Some veterans and retirees may not have this number printed on their ID card, so if you find that this applies to you, then please follow these instructions on our website to retrieve it: https://www.commissaries.com/CLICK2GO-Military-ID.
I hope this information proves helpful to you and that you enjoy the convenience of shopping at Your Commissary and using the new Commissary CLICK2GO app!
Sincerely,

Can I order ever though oregon doesn’t have a commissary
Thank you for reading this blog post and for your interest in placing a commissary order from where you’re located in Oregon.
CLICK2GO is designed to fulfill commissary orders locally, which we currently accomplish primarily through curbside pickup at our stores. Therefore, this program cannot accommodate orders from authorized customers in states where commissaries are not located.
However, our Guard/Reserve On-Site Sales program allows Guard/Reserve members and other authorized customers to order products during designated periods and have their orders delivered for them to pick up at specific sites that are not close to an existing commissary. The host commissary works with Guard/Reserve units that have at least 150 members stationed in an area and selects products to offer during these limited-time sales.
We don’t currently have any upcoming dates scheduled for such sales; however, we encourage you to check periodically for any potential future announcements related to this by visiting the following link: https://www.commissaries.com/shopping/guard-reserve-sales.

Am I elehible to shop at a commisary? I receibe VA medi
cal benifits.
Thank you for your service and for reading this blog post! I’m Courtney Rogers, DeCA Consumer Advocate, and I appreciate the opportunity to address your inquiry.

In addition, veterans with a Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)-documented service-connected disability rating became eligible for DoD and Coast Guard commissary, exchange and MWR retail privileges beginning January 1, 2020, under the Purple Heart and Disabled Veterans Equal Access Act of 2018.
If you believe that you may be authorized for commissary privileges under the latter provision, then I recommend you check out the following page on our website that discusses this expansion in authorized commissary customers: https://www.commissaries.com/extended-eligibility.
This page contains links and contact information for the proper VA resources to guide you on this subject under the heading “How to determine eligibility or obtain your Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC) if you don’t already have one.” I recommend using that information to reach out to the VA if you have any questions or concerns about your eligibility.
I would love to be able to use the Click 2 go app, however it seems the forgot some of us Veterans. Those of us that have VA Hospital IDs vs military IDs, our ID number is not excepted when we try and put it in to create an account for the Click 2 Go. I made sure with the folks at the Commisary, that I was using the same number off my ID that they use when I check out at the register. Hopefully they will fix that so we all can use it.
Thank you for reading this blog post We appreciate the opportunity to assist you. As you noted, your shopping privileges must be verified using your DoD ID number in order to create your account for the Commissary CLICK2GO app/site.
Some veterans and retirees may not have this number printed on their ID card, so if this applies to you, then please follow the instructions on our website at the following link: https://www.commissaries.com/CLICK2GO-Military-ID. Do only certain commissaries deliver?
Thank you for reading this blog post and for your interest in a commissary delivery option. I’m Courtney Rogers, DeCA Consumer Advocate, and I appreciate the opportunity to address your inquiry.
DeCA has been conducting a limited test to explore the possibility of offering a delivery option for its Commissary CLICK2GO service to all of its authorized customers within a 20-mile delivery radius of the commissary fulfilling the order. This test is being conducted at the following commissaries until further notice: Miramar MCAS, Joint Base Lewis-McChord (AKA Lewis Main), San Diego NB, Scott AFB, Fort Belvoir, MacDill AFB, Fort Bragg South and Norfolk NAVSTA.
The Agency is also engaging in a formal procurement action related to offering a delivery option.
While we do not currently have a broader delivery option available, if/when these exploratory efforts result in such a decision, you can rest assured that we will make a public announcement about this and promote it widely.
I tried to sign in to Click2Go but I don’t like giving me Military ID on the PC, telephone. Is there another way other than Military ID?
Thank you for reading this blog post and writing to ask whether you can provide information other than your military ID number to create a CLICK2GO account.
In order to protect your privacy, the Defense Commissary Agency’s website has upgraded its account authentication method. Therefore, the Commissary CLICK2GO app/site requires your DoD ID number in order to verify your commissary shopping privileges and create your account.
While I understand that this isn’t the answer that you were hoping to receive, I hope that having an explanation of the reason why this is needed will reassure you.
Sincerely,
Courtney Rogers

Would be nice to know if the orders from this app can be shipped as I am a disabled Vet living 100 miles from the nearest commissary.
Thank you for your service and for your interest in a commissary delivery or shipping option for disabled veterans. DeCA has been conducting a limited test to explore the possibility of offering a delivery option for its Commissary CLICK2GO service to all of its authorized customers within a 20-mile delivery radius of the commissary fulfilling the order. The Agency is also engaging in a formal procurement action related to offering a delivery option.
If/when DeCA makes a decision to offer a broader delivery or shipping option, you can rest assured that we will make a public announcement about this and promote it widely. However, given the distance you live from your nearest commissary, you may want to consider our Guard/Reserve On-Site Sales program if one of these sales is offered closer to you.
This program allows Guard/Reserve members and other authorized customers to order products during designated periods and have their orders delivered for them to pick up at specific sites that are not close to an existing commissary. Unfortunately, no such sale dates are announced at this time, but we encourage you to check the following web page periodically for any future announcements related to this: https://www.commissaries.com/shopping/guard-reserve-sales.

I think there is a problem; it is the prices presently charged at the PX. During my times in the military, the late 50′-60’s, the PX prices were favorable to any other source. Now it seems there are major cost savings by shopping at Walmart instead of the PX. Seems we need to review this situation; it does not seem fair to our active military.
Totally agree. PX and Commissary prices seem to be jacked up to mimic local economy (not to count lower product selection), and the leadership of these elements sells the idea as “tax-free”. This ‘ghost saving’ is even more noticeable if you have to drive 20+ miles one way to shop. At the end, the $11-20 you save on the entire bill doesn’t compare or compensate for the time on the road, traffic, and gas spent is not equal to savings. Same goes for gasoline prices. And those of us with limited mobility, grocery shopping is an all day task.
How does a veteran get a military ID number?
To get a military ID card go to the local VA, I got mine at the VA hospital.
You cannot apply for a Military ID Card (DOD) at the VA Hospital.
The VA and the DOD are two separate entities.
The VA has caused confusion by combining their website with the DOD website- against advice of the Attorney General.
Thank you for sharing your concern and feedback on this topic. While you are correct that the VA does not issue DoD ID cards, they do issue Veteran Health Identification Cards (VHICs), which is presumably what Vanessa was referring to when she mentioned getting a “military ID” at a VA hospital. The VHIC may be used to positively identify someone who became an authorized commissary customer as a result of the January 2020 expansion of benefits when it reflects the appropriate designation, such as SERVICE CONNECTED, MEDAL OF HONOR, PURPLE HEART or FORMER POW.
Although these individuals are not issued DoD ID cards for this purpose, they do have DoD ID numbers associated with them, which they can retrieve using the instructions posted on our website here: https://www.commissaries.com/CLICK2GO-Military-ID. This DoD ID number may be used for specific purposes, such as creating a Commissary CLICK2GO account.

To get a Military ID you must be Retired or Medical Discharge from the Military. VA ID is different but can be used by the Veteran only on post,Commissary,PX. VA do not issue Military ID, Only a Military Personnel Office can issue the card. I worked VA for 25 yrs.. Military ID and VA ID IS Different.
Thank you for reading this blog post We appreciate the opportunity to assist you. As you may have noticed, your shopping privileges must be verified using your DoD ID number in order to create your account for the Commissary CLICK2GO app/site.
