This time of year can feel heavy. Veterans in need of support may be coping with loss or trauma and may be recovering from an emotionally challenging holiday season. The days are shorter, and some Veterans may feel the financial pinch after too much holiday spending. All of this can lead to stress, anxiety or worse—a crisis.
In times like these, peer support is essential. That is why Vets4Warriors has Veterans on-call ready to provide an empathetic, respectful and nonjudgmental ear and solve challenges. To date, Vets4Warriors has made more than 650,000 connections with people to provide support before challenges turn into crises. Over 7,000 individuals reached out for the first time in 2022, so each year we are supporting thousands more.
We follow up with every call and work together until a resolution has been found.
What is Vets4Warriors?
Vets4Warriors, housed at the Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care National Call Center, is a one-of-a-kind, 24/7 peer support network. We are proud to be recognized as the nation’s leading 24/7 military peer support program staffed by Veterans. Callers can be assured that everything they share with us when we connect will always remain 100% confidential.
Our program complements official government resources available to service members, Veterans, family members and caregivers, but remains separate from them. This allows us to ensure that our callers have every available resource, no matter what their needs may be.
How our peer support works
We are Veterans helping Veterans. Vets4Warriors peers have been trained to share common knowledge and experiences, and provide emotional, social and practical help. We assist callers with a variety of issues that we ourselves, in most cases, have already been through. There is no physical, mental or social challenge for which we can’t help find a solution.
Who do we serve?
We are here to provide support to the entire military community. This includes every active-duty military service members and National Guard and Reserve service members, as well as Veterans of every generation and their family members and caregivers.
What to expect when you contact Vets4Warriors
You will immediately be connected to a peer who is a Veteran or a member of the military community. We will listen, understand and provide support, no matter your situation. As a concierge program, we understand that everyone’s challenges are different and that there are no one-size-fits-all solutions.
Everyone we serve is also welcome to remain anonymous.

I am a little confused by the statement: “The Vets4Warriors program is a 24/7 peer support program that connects veterans in crisis with trained peer specialists.” Does this mean that any veteran in crisis can call the program 24/7 and be immediately connected with a peer specialist? Or does it mean that the program is available 24/7 but there may be a wait time to be connected with a peer specialist? In addition, I am wondering what kind of training the peer specialists receive. Are they all veterans themselves? How long is the training? What topics are covered?

Why can’t Vietnam veterans and the war time vets don’t get any help I a have been fighting for48 years. Please help me figure this out.
