Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Army Air Corps Veteran Darrell Johnson, who made 107 bombing runs in World War II
Darrell Johnson was born on February 3, 1923. In 1941, when America became involved in WWII, he turned 18 and joined the Army Air Corps, the precursor to today’s Air Force. He was a nose gunner in a B-24 aircraft. While stationed in Italy, his squadron made 107 bombing runs. In 1995, his squadron held a reunion at Love Field in Dallas, Texas. At that reunion, there was only one member missing from his crew.
He currently lives in Menifee, CA, with his wife, Virgina. They are cared for by their daughter.
