Attention all organizations that serve Veterans, service members, families and caregivers! The Bob Woodruff Foundation is giving away $50,000 each to three winning organizations for planning and managing an impactful event. The organization must take the lead on planning, managing and staffing the event, while the Bob Woodruff Foundation (BWF) acts as the title sponsor.
Here are the ground rules for creating the event:
- The event can’t be a fundraiser.
- The event should impact at least 50 Veteran, service member, family member or caregiver guests.
- The event must take place in the United States during the 2023 calendar year.
The deadline to enter is Feb. 22. Organizations are limited to one entry, so get creative and make a positive impact on the lives of Veterans and their families! The foundation will announce the three winning organizations on March 1. The winners must agree to be featured on Bob Woodruff Foundation social channels and press releases and press photography.
Enter your event concept today and make a difference in your local military and Veteran community. Click here for more information and to submit event contest entries. For questions, contact Dina Shapiro at Dina.Shapiro@BobWoodruffFoundation.org.
Veterans have our backs
The contest is part of the Bob Woodruff Foundation’s “Got Your 6 Network.” “I’ve got your 6” is a phrased coined during World War I by U.S. fighter pilots covering a plane’s rear position as an enduring message of support. “Through their service, Veterans have our backs,” the foundation says on its website. “When they return home, we’ve got theirs.”
The foundation’s network of grant recipients and local community partners—totaling more than 3,000 organizations in 50 states—addresses the needs of Veterans who require additional support. The network includes community-based partnerships made up of businesses, community Veteran engagement boards, government agencies, service providers, donors and others committed to helping Veterans.
The Bob Woodruff Foundation ensures that America’s impacted Veterans, service members and their families have access to the highest level of support and resources that they have earned for as long as they need it. The foundation has partnerships in communities across the across the country. It identifies and invests in the best in-class programs that are serving the diverse needs of service members, Veterans, families and caregivers right in their communities.
Since its inception in 2006, the Bob Woodruff Foundation has called for people to support the emerging and long-term needs of Veterans, including mental health, caregiver support, food insecurity and service-connected fertility issues. The initiative, founded after reporter Bob Woodruff was wounded in a roadside bombing in Iraq, has invested more than $85 million in programs that have empowered Veterans, active-duty military and their family members. This has reinforced the message that the Bob Woodruff Foundation has “Got Your Six.”

Will you please reconsider and extend the deadline for participating in this event? I just got it yesterday.2/22/23 there is no time to respond adequately . Will this be held again next year? If so we need to know now. Thanks
This notice was posted too late to make a difference. Should have allowed about a year for planning.
I am a disabled veteran myself. l work in Atlanta at a Northern Tools I would love to host a event veterans event at our store in the Stockbridge Georgia area if you are interested I can coordinate it with my company. There are many homeless veterans in the Atlanta that could get help in signing up for programs at this event.I have a friend at Warrior Alliance thag could have staff there to help hundreds of veterans get on the path to a better life.
Ditto… really? I read on 17 Feb for sending to organizations for consideration due by 22 Feb?
Not much time to respond! Could have used a little more lead time to submit our request. We do have a huge Celebration planned Memorial Weekend at the Veterans National Memorial Shrine and Museum Fort Wayne, In that we would like you to consider. Details and submission to come shortly.
Sorry, there was a typo in my first comment. Here’s my comment revised (and please delete the other one?) … Thanks.
Does the word “organization” prohibit an “individual” from entering? I am not part of any organization but I think I have a couple great ideas and I am a little good at planning things. Can I enter this contest as just one person?
So, when does the word “organization” prohibit an “individual”? I am not part of any organization but I have a couple of ideas. Can I enter this?
Can not find the application.
The time given to submit an application is not long enough. This notice is dated February 14, 2023. That only gives a committee eight days to meet and draft a proposal.
The San Francisco is interested in y’all planning an event. The staff at down town CBOC clinic wants to go too
A deadline that is ONE WEEK away? How does any veteran’s organization do that? Thanks for the realistic consideration.
I was just thinking the same thing.
