Memorial Day is always officially designated as the last Monday in May. This year, Memorial Day is on Monday, May 29. On this day and the days leading up to it, Americans from across the country will gather at cemeteries and memorials to honor and remember the service members who gave the last full measure of devotion.
VA is hosting Memorial Day ceremonies at VA National Cemeteries and invites everyone to join with Veterans and their families at these events, which will take place over Memorial Day weekend. The laying of flags and poppies and the moments of silence broken by the sounding of Taps will ensure that the sacrifices of these heroes are never forgotten. A full listing of more than 200 free ceremonies and other community Memorial Day events can be found below.
Additionally, 38 VA national cemeteries are featured at stops along the 20,000-mile relay march organized by Carry The Load.
Those who can’t attend events in person may also honor a fallen service member by leaving a tribute on the Veterans Legacy Memorial site. There you can view Veterans’ stories, decorations and internment locations for each of the 4.5 million Veterans interred at VA national cemeteries, VA grant-funded state, territorial or tribal Veterans’ cemeteries, and certain National Park Service national cemeteries.
Also, check out this listing of year-round Veterans’ discounts with special Memorial Day discounts available at Walgreens and the National WWI Museum and Memorial.
* We update this list often, and event information does change. Verify event details with the host organization or location if possible.

Those of you living in overburdened cities need to see that the giant VA centers like the one in Chicago will always have patient problems because there are just too many using the facility to make it work. Our leaders need to stop the endless wars and pointless missions that bring too many of us back damaged. Our little Illiana VA center in Danville is an amazing place to receive care because employees have TIME to care for us. When I was sent to Chicago for referral to a retina specialist for eye damage, I counted over a hundred of us waiting to be seen in the eye department. I waited all afternoon and there was no way for the staff to keep track of all of us. Don’t hate the workers for being overburdened. There should be fewer of us coming home from endless conflicts.
You missed some parades for Vermont. Here are some more that I know of (there are likely more):
– Essex Junction, parade is Saturday, May 27th. Road Closures will begin at 9AM, the parade will begin at 10AM
– Underhill, parade is Monday, May 29th and starts at 11:00 am. This is the only veteran organized memorial day parade in the state.
– Orwell
– Middlebury
Also there is a White Cross service on Friday evening at 6pm at the veterans center, 80 West Street, Leominster, MA, honoring Leominster residents who never came home.
There is another Massachusetts ceremony at the VA National Cemetery in Winchendon, on Monday the 29th, at 9:00 am. The Cemetery is located on MA route 202 north, off MA route 12 in Winchendon.
Great list of events. The following should have been included for New Jersey.

It’s a shame that Ft. Riley, KS has two Cemeteries and they are not holding any kind of Memorial Celebration for those Veterans. I for one am very disappointed as there is going to be a time in the near future where my 95 year old Veteran father who faithfully served this country will be laid to rest in one of the two of those, and he will not be celebrated in the years to come.
My grandma worked at Fisher plant during 2 www . Her family history has a father in www 1 and every other conflict starting with French and Indian war . RIP
The VA puts on a show as if they care about veterans but the facts are the employees of the VA only care about there job’s they don’t give a damn about us the veterans, God bless the real veterans who fought for an ideal and lost there lives so the left could destroy America that so many veterans fought and died and bled and lost limbs to protect a nation of bureaucrats who’ve forgotten them only to line there pockets with greed while veterans sleep in bushes and under bridges, the VA lack of compassion is why so many Afghanistan veterans are killing themselves,it’s because the VA can’t help those who are hurting because the VA has become racist against white’s first and ppl of color second and put the LGBTQ agenda ahead of those who give the VA a JOB.
Get with it VA before there ain’t no more VA.
I’m sorry if something happened to you that made you so bitter and angry. But it is my experience that the VA does care, and I hate to see the Republicans I call a part of my party doing so much to destroy it, by being so inflexible over the budget, and trying to cut funding for veterans and the elderly. If you don’t believe me look up the bills they have put forward and don’t just believe what someone tells you. I’m shure you can read and use the internet because you are on here trashing the only people that are trying to do their best to help we veterans. Have a nice day even though if you do actually do some research of your own it might ruin it for you your friend always Loren
The VA wants you dead. Don’t go there if you can help it.
Kudos for preparing this extensive list of Memorial Events. Commendations for your efforts to honor those who gave their all to preserve freedom for all who live in this great country. May this encourage the public to make an effort to preserve a government that will sustain freedom for our posterity./
