Veterans, transitioning service members and military families, please join us on Jan. 17 at noon and 3 p.m. ET for “First Steps to Financial Freedom” to learn the basics of budgeting, understanding debit and credit cards, and establishing a banking profile.
This virtual session will present information to help you develop strategies for short and long-term financial security, such as minimizing debt by borrowing carefully, identifying ways to build wealth and more.
This class is the January installment of the Wellness Wednesday Financial Education series hosted by VA in partnership with Prudential Pathways. VA has conducted more than 70 virtual Wellness Wednesday Financial Education classes. These seminars connect Veterans and military community members like you with important information about relevant financial issues.
Wellness Wednesday Financial Education classes are offered online on the third Wednesday of each month at noon and again at 3 p.m. ET. These sessions walk you through useable strategies to take control of your finances, manage various sources of income, start a small business, protect your financial assets, spend purposefully, save intentionally and more.
Recent class topics included:
- The basics of saving and investing
- Strategies for college funding
- Managing employment change
- Steps to buying and selling a home
Feedback from past participants include comments such as “quality information” and “great points and suggestions to help me manage my money and ways to save and build an emergency fund…”
Future planned Wellness Wednesday Financial Education classes will include information on forming trusts, creating legal wills, estate planning, starting a small business, understanding Social Security benefits, protecting your retirement savings from inflation and more. Beyond simply managing money, planning for your financial future can offer peace of mind for you and your loved ones in the coming years.
Financial literacy produces better personal economic outcomes, housing stability, improved mental health and overall well-being. To support this effort, VA holds other types of events to help you learn about your resources and benefits, such as claims clinics, and benefits and job fairs.
