    How does the U.S. Geological Survey become part of this Veterans Job Group? We have hydrologic Technician jobs available throughout our Idaho Water Science Center and are in need of good strong candidates.

    What are the criteria to be eligible for a VRA appointment?
    To be eligible, the veteran must be:

    in receipt of a campaign badge for service during a war or in a campaign or expedition; OR
    a disabled veteran, OR
    in receipt of an Armed Forces Service Medal or Global War on Terrorism Service Medal for participation in a military operation, OR
    a recently separated veteran (within the last 3 years), AND
    separated under honorable conditions (this means an honorable or general discharge).

    As a Hydrologic Technician within the Idaho Water Science Center, Idaho Falls Field Office, some of your specific duties will include:

    Collects hydrologic data such as streamflow, groundwater, and water-quality, using established methods, sometimes in adverse conditions.
    Maintenance, servicing, construction and troubleshooting of sensing, recording and communications equipment and instrumentation. Prepares repair logs on hydrologic instrumentation. Calibrates meters and analytical equipment using appropriate techniques and protocols. Constructs hydrologic data collection structures under general supervision.
    Use a computer to execute data entry processes, review real-time data via World Wide Web, and to communicate with electronic data loggers, sensors, and field equipment.
    Prepares plots, drafts., or sketches from surveying field notes. Verifies the accuracy of data summaries. Archives data in appropriate data bases.
    Operates government owned/leased vehicle as an incidental driver.

    Physical Demands: The work regularly requires considerable dexterity, agility, and strenuous physical exertion such as: climbing and/or working from tall ladders and scaffolding; work in areas where footing is treacherous such as slippery or icy river banks, steep rocky terrain, cableways, or fast-moving water; lifting heavy objects weighing 23 kilograms (50 pounds) or more or crouching or crawling in restricted areas.

    Work Environment: Office conditions do not require special safety precautions; field conditions may include extreme heat or cold, rain or snow; hazardous conditions such as ice or flooding; or exposure to irritant or toxic chemicals.

    Suitable for Federal employment, as determined by background investigation.
    Selectee may be subject to serving a one-year probationary period.

    Selectee subject to successful completion of a pre-employment medical exam.

    I know of a world wide company and one of there plant locations could care less about hiring veterans and Also some have to the H.R. department to ask for a copy of there file as there military information was not on file and H.R.just laughed and told him what difference does it make it will not help you H.R. said get a copy of your file is on the co. web site you can look at it but you cannot get a copy of it Also the co. has federal contracts so I guess they dotg notg know who the O.F.C.C.P. is either .
