Like the Veterans we serve, rural communities are as diverse and exciting as you can imagine. You may find an opportunity to be closer to family and friends, or just enjoy a greater sense of privacy. Perhaps the lower cost of living or even the allure of open space appeals to you.

Today, we explore a gem of the Peach State by visiting the Dublin VA Health Care System and the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center of Dublin, Georgia.

The beginnings of Dublin’s history came as settlers started to establish a small trading post along the banks of the Oconee River. These early pioneers recognized the potential of the area, with its fertile lands and strategic location, and over the years, Dublin grew steadily.

In Dublin, the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center was built by the U.S. Navy during World War II to care for wounded sailors, and later, served as a center for research into rheumatic fever. The Dublin Naval Hospital not only provided a place to convalesce, but also presented researchers with a place to study the disease, and to produce advancements in treatment.
