For the 2024 Veterans Day Poster Contest, the Veterans Day National Committee (VDNC) called on professional and amateur artists to create picture perfect designs that reflect the theme of this year’s Veterans Day observance, “A Legacy of Loyalty and Service.” The competition was tough. There were more than 150 entries from people ranging from school-age children to graphic designers with decades of experience. When all ballots were tallied, the VDNC selected the design created by Myisha Godette.
A retired, disabled Army Veteran from Queens, New York, Myisha’s design was driven by a desire to represent all who have served. “As a Veteran, I’ve sometimes felt underrepresented, prompting me to consider how best to incorporate inclusivity and the essence of loyalty and service,” she said. “Ultimately, I chose to symbolize the shared experience of service members—past, present, and future—with elements like the American Flag, military “dog tags,” and the enduring strength of Veterans, embodied by a solid, dark concrete background in my design.”
The Veterans Day poster will be displayed in VA facilities, military installations, and municipal buildings across America. It will also serve as the cover of the official program for the Veterans Day commemoration at Arlington National Cemetery on November 11.

The 2024 Veterans poster is incorrect. One the dog tags should be on a small connected chain to the larger chain. The larger chain has only one dog tag. It may not be a big deal ,but What it repersents is important. Thank you Robert G Smith Vietnam 67/68.

Out of 150 posters, there were better designs with more powerful messages than the one selected as the winner. But regardless, congratulations on winning the contest. It is also not fair that the veterans day committe are the only ones choosing the poster, they need to allow other people with different age groups and backgrounds to be able to vote. There are 9 million Veterans being served by the VA, over 320,000 VA employees, 2500+ VA medical facilities, and we have a committee of 50 allowed to vote. They should post all designs online without names and allow the entire VA community vote which poster is more popular. The 50 on the committee do not accurately represent all 9 million Veterans today. Congratulations once again!

Good Evening. I was grateful for your help last year when I discovered the poster contest. I am the PTSA President for Trailside Middle School located in Ashburn, VA. It is recognized as a Military Purple Heart School. When I inquired about the poster contest last year, you actually (somebody) sent me copies of the poster that I could use for decorations and advertising for our Annual Veterans Day Spaghetti and Recognition Ceremony. We even took a picture and it was used as the decoration on our cake ceremony. Would you be interested in sending me posters again this year and actually other additional posters if you have extras. They are a great backdrop for us. Thank You so much for your time and service.

The only claim predator is Columbia SC Regional office. There is a lot of complaints from veterans of their claim being thrown in the trash once submitted to them. Nobody has approached me offering to do anything for me. Are you really concern about helping these veterans or blocking their claim process? I hear stories of veteran ‘s claims being denied for no valid reasons. Look into some of these veteran’s complaints

This is one Vietnam Army Veteran that likes the simplicity and inclusiveness of the choice. The artist is usually free to do their art in the way they see fit. Great job Myisha!

Myisha Godette, Thumbs up! Loved the choice of the concrete. Solid, strong, with a grittiness that we can all relate to. To all of the naysayers about the dog tags. It’s a work of art. They obviously aren’t ‘real’ dog tags. There’s no name on them. They are a representation of dog tags, so she can have them look any way she wants.
I love the use of the gold. Because all of our veterans are golden and precious.

I have a friend in Texas who flew choppers of men out no matt….. got a mortar shell thru the chopper window ,mangled him (flier) but he got the chopper landed with a load of guys on and a medic safely anyway. He refused his purple heart stating someone else deserved it more. He extracated more folks than one can count in 38 months of this. He should have this purple heart because the (fake) mortar (thank God) didnt
kill them. flying the chopper his face had to be put back together, his legs got it too, and, it also affected his right hand so badly that he had to
learn to be a ”leftie”! Yet NO DISABILITY FUNDS because he “makes too much money”. !!!! That’s a load of caca. He risked his life daily to go in
and xctricate the wounded and deceased. Yet no disability. Cant wear shorts for obvious reasons. he owns a small company he is it. He lived up to Semper Fi

THE DOG TAGS ARE INCORRECT! AT LEAST MAKE THEM REALISTIC IF YOUR GOING TO USE THEM! THE LETTERING IS PUNCHED BACKWARDS, AND WHAT’S WITH THE COLOR?

Really?? You have to be this way (negative) and don’t see or feel the representation of each item in the poster? Whether the direction of lettering or color may not exactly match it bit still carries a strong meaningful statement. You knew they were dog tags still didn’t you. And you know what they stand for. But do you know the meaning of gold or yellow in the military branches? I can’t put words into Myisha’s reasoning but I can offer what it might mean to a lot of people and why military branches use gold or yellow.
The United States Army identifies with gold as it denotes courage and generosity, two qualities many soldiers demonstrate.
The United States Navy identifies with gold as it conveys integrity and optimism, in the face of adversity.
The United States Air Force uses Air Force yellow indicating clarity, energy, and intellect.
The United States Marines identity with Gold symbolizing nobility, generosity, and elevation of the mind, characteristics that define the Marine Corps’s ethos.
So as I see it the gold represents ALOT!!

Every year on Veterans Day, I print out letter-sized copies of the current Veterans Day post and pass them out to our inpatients at the VA Hospital where I am a volunteer.

I agree that the posters could be voted on by the veteran public. Give Vets an opportunity to voice their opinions and it wouldn’t take much to create a page with pictures of the top ten to be voted on.
I also think all the chatter about it needing raised letters on the tags is just a bunch of disgruntled vets that will complain about anything

Good choice. When at first I saw it was a Woman Veteran, I assumed the VA was once again leaning toward females Veterans against the fact we are all just ONE. Wed are all just VETERANS.
This poster is definitely better than the one from last year. At least this person didn’t prominently feature herself, and VA officials didn’t handpick one of their own to win. With that said, why doesn’t VA create a voting contest? We get a Wednesday email with VetResources. VA could pick 10 posters, then have Veterans vote, sending out the voting email 2-3 times in that Wednesday email. Imagine that…millions of people who swore to protect and defend the Constitution using a democratic process to have their voices heard about the poster honoring THEM. It may also get Veterans going to VA’s website. And, the entire process wouldn’t be run behind closed doors by a group of people who have no accountability for selecting an ugly poster.
Wonderful idea of having their voices heard and showing that it represents the veteran.
