VA’s Claim Status Tool allows Veterans to view the status of their VA claims online using their VA.gov login. This tool displays which claims are in process and identifies any actions Veterans need to take. It also gives Veterans the ability to review recent claim activity.
Claim Status Tool enhancements
VA recently enhanced the Claim Status Tool to improve your digital, self-service experience. The tool now shows a breakdown of the eight-step disability claims process, making it easier to understand where your claim currently is. The steps include:
- Step 1: Claim received
- VA receives your claim in its system.
- Step 2: Initial review
- VA reviews your claim for basic information (e.g., name, Social Security Number).
- Step 3: Evidence gathering
- VA reviews your claim to ensure it contains all necessary information. VA may ask for more evidence at this step of the claims process. Additional evidence could include a claim-related medical exam or medical records from a VA or non-VA provider.
- Step 4: Evidence review
- VA reviews all collected evidence for a claim.
- Step 5: Rating
- VA decides your claim and determines the disability rating.
- Step 6: Preparing decision letter
- VA prepares the decision letter. Though this letter cannot by viewed in VA.gov until Step 8, it will identify if you are eligible for additional benefits. This letter will include details such as disability ratings, amount of monthly payments and when payments begin.
- Step 7: Final review
- A senior reviewer from VA will conduct a final review of the claim and decision letter.
- Step 8: Decision letter available
- You can view and download your decision letter for the claim on the Status page of the Claim Status Tool.
More about the Claim Status Tool
The Claim Status Tool contains three main tabs:
- Status: The Status tab tells you what actions you can take to support your claim and lists requests for third parties.
- Files: The Files tab displays information requests to you, a button for uploading files and a list of supporting documents you have submitted to VA.
- Overview: The Overview tab provides you with a description of the claims process, spotlights each step, and explains the process may return to a previous step if more information is needed.
You no longer have to contact a call center or regional office for claims information. The claim status tool allows you to access important claim information when you need it. This tool is another step forward in VBA’s ongoing mission to support Veterans and their families. To learn more about using the claim status tool, please visit the Claims Status page.

I’m glad to see that “presumptive status” has been approved for certain injuries/illness. I’ve served in Airborne assignments for the majority of my career. Filed claim for Back,Hip,and knee injuries.
Was informed by the VA that these injuries are not service connected ( I know this is happens to a majority of personnel that served in Airborne assignments.)
Along with being told my medical records can’t be found). Why can’t the VA or powers to be realize these injuries are systemic and grant them presumptive status?
Best to all
When will the systemic injuries of personnel that have been on jump status be considered for a “Presumptive Status”?
My claim was filed 7/06/2022. No movement since 6/2023. It has been in step 3 for 2 years. This article is old news.
I am pleased to see a self help tool for claims status. Thanks for sharing!
What is the status of my VA rating? Retired 1 January 2018 and VA claim been in over 6 years.
I will be extremely grateful for a positive decision on my VA claim thank you very much for your consideration of this claim.
To my brothers, I had surgery done at a VA hospital by someone who was not qualified to do vascular surgery. Now I’m disabled, disfigured and was homeless. I lost my job and had to leave my family in another country because I was living out of my car. I will be like this for the rest of my life. The VA has denied all my claims for disability. I have been perusing this for eight years with no end in sight. They make mistakes and accept no responsibility for what they do to veterans
The VA has tried to kill me or turn me into a vegetable. They’re liars and deceitful people working for the VA and court of appeals. I was left disabled, disfigured, homeless and had to leave my family in another country because I was living out of my car. Veterans have become nothing more than Quiney pigs for the VA to experiment on. I had surgery done at a VA hospital by someone who was not qualified to do vascular surgery. They have denied all my claims for disability and what they did to me. If the VA tells you, you need surgery, get a second opinion from an outside source. I’m like this for the rest of my life. and can never work again. I was a master electrician for Workshops for Warriors, now I can’ even hold a screwdriver
I have been using the VA Claims Status Tool, and get frustrated over and over and over. The information update indicates that over the past couple of months my claim is being reviewed, and that statement hasn’t changed one iota. I did call in and asked what status it was in. The gentleman with whom I spoke, told me my claim had gone into the decision phase, which gave me some hope… but the the VA Claims Status Tool hasn’t changed at all. It continues to show my claim is still in the review status… they’re looking at it.
I’m about to turn 78 in January, and in my condition I might not live long enough for someone to actually process my claim and decide if the VA Doctor who agreed with my contention that the original medical entry regarding the ordnance accident in which I was involved on USS Kitty Hawk operating in territorial off the Coast of North Vietnam, as written, could not have happened… and that the scenario I had written in great detail was correct. The VA Doctor then agreed that the connection of my lower back degeneration issues most assuredly connect to the L-Shoulder injury I sustained during my first deployment to Vietnam on USS Kitty Hawk in May 1966. 09/06/2024
I need to file a claim regarding agent orange. Please explain how to do this.

Visit VA Claims Academy on the YouTube site. There are lots of free videos and you could join for a fee. I did and it worked for me.
This is the most worst thing I have ever seen. I can log on to my account but it has nothing for disably..
Can I track medical travel reimbursement claims here?
The headline says…”Easily Check the Status of Your VA Claim
Quickly and easily access important claim information whenever and wherever you need it. VA’s Claim Status Tool allows Veterans to view the status of their VA claims online using their VA.gov login.” I come to this site—and NO WHERE is there any where to ‘check the status of a claim.’ This is so typical of VA services.
Not exactly my experience. Getting an update on your claim means providing accurate information on the website to the veteran. In my year long process to adjudicate my disability claim I relied on VA phone representative s too give me updates on my claim because the website was always delinquent of useful information and was never specific on problems creating delays. A website is only as good as its managers and they are missing the mark. We owe our veterans better. Please do a better job of managing the site and be transparent about difficulties. We get there are problems managing the vast numbers of veterans but it’s disingenuous to tell us this site is the answer to resolving our claims. Happy to help.
The whole military apparatus seems to be flawed. You enlist in less than a week, basic training, specialty training -MOS on a reading level below 10th grade off to war and they can’t simplify a claim process? You have to ask yourself do they really want to.No accountability.
How do I File a claim in the first place?
I filed for the PACT in May 2023. Had Prostate cancer, have Renal Cancer that spread to Lungs and now I have bone cancer. I think you are just waiting for me to die so you have to do nothing.
I’m sorry, but this site does not work. It requires you to change your password every 60 days. The problem is you have to have at least 15 digit or more. That’s hard to do. I keep trying, but it also requires 8 different changes from the previous. It does not tell you what has to change. I have tried for over several months and nothing works.
I called once and the customer service representative had me change some things on my computer, that ended up messing my whole system up. I have not been able to fix the problem.
You need to make it easier for us Vet’s to use the system.
Jim, have you tried using a password manager? It’s not my place to recommend a specific one, but there are many options on the market. The benefit would be that you actually don’t have to remember your password and they often come with random password generators that do the job of picking a new password for you. Try researching password manager apps / software. I’d tell you the one that I use, but I don’t think it would be appropriate to appear to be endorsing a specific product.
Every time I get to the code I get cut off. The last 2 were [redacted] and [redacted]. I just want to know the status on my claim. Safari cuts me off.
Editor’s note: Please don’t put security-related information in comments on this site.
Since my pending appeal was remanded to Regional Office by the Board. The new claims status tool does not display any information regarding my claim.
A very good information. Thanks.
I would like to know the status of my claim.
the VA sucks. i’ve been fighting for benefits for over 10 yr’s,everytime i put in the paper work they ask for they give some other bs about they more paper work. all they have to do is take your name soc.sec. number and they can look it up with your permission.first i had to proove it happend while in service , i did then they said i healed not from back sergery. the gov erment gives all these people crossing the boarder .but vet’s who served honoraby get screwed.. stay strong vet’s and keep up your fight. semper fi
How is my claim doing (for Agent Orange problems from 1969)?

Editors note: Please don’t put your contact information into the comments on this site.
The steps are cool, but they should come with estimated times until completion with updates as to why there’s a delay and your position in queue. Otherwise, just tell vets to not even bother checking for at least a year.
tried this log in 2 times, 2 different code numbers were provided. i received an error message “An error has occurred each time.
I put in a claim of sexual assault by one of my primary care Drs. They said I needed to take it to federal court. I sexual assaulted by a female Doctor. They did nothing about it.
Call all of the news stations, senators, and Congress and report every detail of the assault. Also, your police department is available to file a report. The Doctor is not above the law. Don’t be afraid to report this to all of the authorities.
When we had our first night fire drill ! The tank to my left Fried out of order!
I was picking up the person replacing me dropped his helmet liner! I went forward to get it for him and the tank on my left fired out of! Long story short! I returned
Long story short, I returned to my squad
And reported to my NCO and told him what happened! He looked at my ears and said “Hell there not bleeding “! Get back to your squad!
Why does it take so long and the same form an questions to send over an over just to get a dependent added, unbelievable
Why does it take a very long time in the step 1-7 process to go from step 1 to step 2 and so forth. I have a claim in this process since April 2024 and it has not moved from step 1 as of today 29 August 2024. VA is NOT taking care of it Veterans as it says they are. In my appeal it only gave steps 1-5. Can Not get an answer from anyone when you call the VA Claims & Compensation, why is it talking so long to go through the step process.
The new process to view claims, benefits and medical information is difficult to log in. The new log in forces you to create enormously long passwords and they require a change every month it seems. Maybe that’s an exaggeration but I believe they’ve made it too complicated.
GOOD INFORMATION FOR VETERANS TO MORE EFFICIENTLY ACCESS THEIR DISABILITY STATUS AND RESPOND TO QUESTIONS AND TO ADD INFORMATION TO THEIR CLAIM. Oscar Tullos, Jr.
I had a problem with hearing. I was turned down several times stating I did not qualify. In my last letter to the VA I stated their requirements and my codition and askd what was their problem . I finaly sent my request through our local state senator and it was shortly after that I received a call from the VA asking if I wated money or hearing help. They told me they had rceived a senatorial inquiry. From that point on I have received excellent care and hearing aids.
I fled an Agent orange claim but was deneid?
I am trying to establish an account using va.gov but cannot get them to call me with a code to my home phone. My wife has a cell phone under her name, but the automatic system will not accept it since I am not on that number.
You should put in the article that it will still take at least 5 months before they even look at a claim. Then if they need more information it’ll be another 5 months.
The tool is a step in the right direction. However, it lacks proper oversight and management. My experience was the data displayed was outdated, did not properly alert the user to claim issues, and gave the user little recourse other than contact a VA phone rep.
It has been over 5 years since I was diagnosed with “Barret’s Esophagus” brought on by an acid reflex condition that I did not know I had. I complained to Dr. Sabina Agarol at the Madison VA hospital for 18 months. The only symptom I had was a cough every day. She told me to stop on the way home and buy some cough drops. Really! I would be dead by now!!! Well, the only reason that I am still here is that I kept complaining and she sent me up for an endoscopy. I was at the top of stage 3 out of 4. There are 4 layers to the esophagus. The cancer was working its way through the 4th. layer. Another few months and it would have gotten into my lymph system… then, death as happened to a close friend of mine. I have complained and pressed charges all along the way and nobody will listen to me! From the chief of staff all the way to my appeal hearing in (online) Washington, DC. which took 5 years by the way to set up!!! I had the hearing 2 months ago and I am still waiting for the other shoe to drop! I don’t have a lot of faith in the VA right now! All I have received, is a lot of lip service. If I lose this bid, I will turn it over to my congressman! I will not give up!
I log in to Login.gov and my account opens but has no VA information. There is SSA information but nothing from the VA.
I’m a USAF Veteran and I filed a disability claim last on March 25th this year concerning a shoulder operation I received while at Keesler AFB Hospital. I received a reply stating that I needed to re-apply my claim on another form. I went to the nearest Veteran’s Administration Office
with the new form and was informed that the claim concerning a “dislocated shoulder” had been closed but the claims concerning the shoulder surgery and the development of arthritis in that shoulder was still open and that I didn’t need to submit a new claim form.
I checked with a Veteran’s Administration Associate several days later, and was told that the information I received from the Veteran’s Administrator’s Office was incorrect. Can you advise what I should do to renew my claim?
It be over a year since I filed my claim and it still in steps 3 this new tool is helpful it’s still don’t explain why it taking so long
I only see Steps 1-5 in my appeal
https://www.va.gov/claim-or-appeal-status/
Inform me on new benfits and .what are all of the injury .that the government cover . Old and new injuries that is added. I don’t know what they cover..and they do not tell you..
This verification process is rediculous.
Simplify it.
This is nonsense.
Really appreciate your help …. Maybe I do not know how to access my your letters to me …. but I do see all the letters you have sent me …..
Definitely a step in the right direction for the VA. I’ve been notified by the VA that a debt is owed, but am unable to see any documentation that explains this issue. Apparently the debt section has not taken in the transparency, leaving those individuals who are impacted by the debts completely in the dark. I filed a claim in April and again in June via my local VA Rep. Nothing happened with my request. In August I went to another Rep and filed the same claim a third time and was finally able to see a status. Let’s see if the new changes help.
Ditto!
Changed reps to get action! SMH that we have to change to get assistance!
While working on my claim and successfully submitting it, I used up all of my authentication codes and have no way of getting more. Now I can’t access the website to check the status
I filed a Pact Act claim in 2022 for cancer that was denied. I added supplemental information that included four letters from the four Doctors who have treated me for my cancer and every Doctor agreed that more likely than not the cancer was caused by an agent Orange exposure. I also included documentation from a case exactly like mine from 2011 that was approved for the exact cancer that I have. It was again denied. Could someone or anyone explain to me why the VA subjects Vietnam Veterans to this kind of torture. I truly believe the VA hopes that we die before the VA has to deal with us. Truly unbelievable.
Clinton Kidwell
All changes, notifications, etc. should be communicated via email or text immediately to the claimant. Many times trying to negotiate the VA claim system can be frustrating. When changes, decisions are made, it would be nice to be notified quickly.
The only thing I have seen is poor incompetent doctors who must have flunked out of med school. All they do is deny everything especially for Viet Nam Vets who just want the government to honor their promises. The Federal government can give thousands of dollars to illegal immigrants and then deny the vets who fought for this country health care, benefits and care. The VA works against the vets until they are forced to admit the things they actually did. Like Agent Orange spraying more and more places now are being identified as being sprayed and the government is having to admit to what they did to the vets.
Amen Brother!
We didn’t flee to Canada; we signed up!
USMC 64′-68′

I had a Stroke, and they still denied me.
Set up very easy to understand. Sure does take a long time to process a claim, one can and some do die before they even get a rating.
Very sad way to treat a veteran. The veteran has to jump through hoops, and have to get paper work or whatever is needed, but if they needed it from the government you wait forever. Not a very good system.
I do however like the VA even was proud to work at VA
I have been trying to get 100 percent for years Yhey finally gave me 90 percent and a letter of apology for not responding to my heart condition and I reapplied over a yr ago and still haven’t received any response yes they are hoping we will die before they decide 101 airborne 68 to 70.
I am 89 years and have submitted claims many times regarding Agent Orange. Every time the VA has confiscated my evidence and confused me with two other persons with my same name. Also many of my tramatic injuries were caused by CIA physical altercations. Because I always had top security clearance my health records were red tagged, which means that medical entries had to be approved by Military Inteligence/CIA. On this last clain I did so because you people urged me to do-so. Your reasoning was that you had to account for every Agent Orange Claim ever made. I felt it was redundent – because as usual you would look at the previous review and chose not to waist your time. This time when the review was returned to me it reported that my claim of Asthma was denied — I HAVE NEVER HAD ASTHMA SO WHOSE MEDICAL RECORD WAS REVIEWED? I do suffer from Dysphasia from fracture thyroid cartilage and displaced hyoid caused by CI A. Intelligence only allowed an entry of a sore throat. Senetor Bennet had all the evidence and the dicuments I sent for investigation in 1970 & 1973 when the CIA blew up the van the carried all my house hold goods on a forced move from Ellsworth AFB to Pope AFB. My name is Ltc DeLoy Frank Johnson. I suffuered PTSD for years due all the abuse I received but I hung into the AFReserve so that I could Retire. I have writen a 50 page story of my whole horrific Military experience from Army thru AirForce from 1954 to 1993. You all don’t care a dam about investigating your own system. You don’t even have a Quality Assurance in place.
It’s so sad that veterans have to be treated this way , you would think with how technology has evolved that non of these issues that the VBA claims to be experiencing are legitimate issues , yet we still have a government agency like the VBA lacking effective leadership and accountability, if these issues aren’t resolved within the next decade we could see many younger generations not enlisting in our military therefore limiting our capacity to defend ourselves as well as other nations, because being a veteran would not be worthy for the cause. I truly hope any administration will see to revamp the VBA and its processing policies. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!!!!
Would like to know why my client was turned down
This is helpful yes, but I personally seem to fall through cracks everywhere, I’ve been waiting for almost 9 years for my claim to get finished and I have no way of finding out where it is, though I’m told its sitting in front of a judge, but for the time I’ve waited, I should be able to find out more.
I applied for benefits in August of 2022 I’m not very Tech Savvy but I haven’t heard anything at all back so I don’t know what’s going on .
Make sure regarding claims you have diagnosis, a service connection and a reference hotspot if it’s for agent orange exposure. I have tried for years to get Subic Bay Philippines designated. Fordham University did a 47 page report on the toxic waste there and at Clark AFB in Manila. Two Marines guarded the storage facility there too. Also evidence some of it was manufactured in New Zealand and shipped directly there was discovered by a law firm in Florida. VA affairs committees in both houses have been sent this information recently and in the past. Unless more claims emerge, no designation will be given according to the staff of the ranking member of the Senate VA affairs committee.
I’ve been waiting for almost two years now. It’s frustrating and A LOT of leg work. Almost feels like the VA wants us to fail and be denied. At higher level review now with two dismissals for no valid reason what so ever…..they didn’t look at submitted medical reports and just made a decision.
Still waiting and appealing.
I’m still waiting (4 years) for a $300 payment due me from a class action suit the VA lost re: reimbursement for an ambulance transportation.
You may have addressed this already but an explanation on why I can not see the determination would be helpful. Telling me to see the determination when it is not available for viewing on line is very frustrating.
Other vets have covered the serious missing piece of prohibiting us from seeing our determinations. Addressing your progress on “fixing” this is desperately needed.
Most excellent link to be made aware of claim status. Tx for making it easy!
My Appeal has started December 2023. Appeal program gives veteran 90 days to once appeal package is received by VA, to continue sending any additional evidence for appeal board. You are placed on the docket when received. Once 90 days has passed, your appeal goes onto a JUDGE. I have been waiting since March 2024 (not August 28, 2024) for appeal answer. When you check online or call the 1-800#, all you are given is “Appeal Status waiting to go to Judge”. The Judge can take 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 1 year, 10 years if they so choose to do so. I have been advised you have to wait in line and they are swamped due to the PACT claims that came in. If they are swamped with claims, any prudent person/leader would bring in more staff/judges to process claims much quicker and put veterans FIRST.
How is my claim doing (for Agent Orange problems from 1969)?
Patrick J Gromek
Hey va thanks a lot for cutting my pension by $500/mo. I thought I had a tight budget before, now I’ll have to get by on $812/mo. I’m really glad you’re so much better than you used to be(I can’t imagine how bad it was before). cause it totally sucks now.
What is my status of my claim
How do I get someone to help me with how to set this up? I use a DESK TOP computer. They keep wanting to send me a CODE on my phone and want me to take a picture of my ID. How does my computer see the picture?
Thank you for the information.
They updated nothing. They simply changed the layout. It still provides extremely limited and misleading information. For example I have had an open “Request” that according to that site requires my attention. Well no letter, no other information. I have called and sent a secure message and keep being told it is some internal request and I need to do nothing. If that is the case why does it say my action is required?
I have also been very frustrated by not being able to understand what is in my claim. They have changed the wording in my claims. I have called state VA organizations which has not been able to to explain what my claims are. Someone rewrote them. For instance, I had a severe fracture of the right ankle, but I was sent for a xray of my left ankle. When I called, I was told that was correct. I was sent to have my left elbow seen by a MD but never claimed anything with my left elbow, The same situation has occurred with other claims. My request for a copy of my claim was promised but never showed up. The top VA state official told me that the VA had my National Naval Hospital records. However I later received a VA letter stating that they are missing the last 20 years of my NNMC file. If I was allowed to see what they have as my claim I could delete errors and provide information so that my claim can be resolved. Hopefully this change will help.
You have to wonder if thee VA reads and follows up on comments made here.
After 4 years of appeals, I’m still, “Service-Connected Disability”, with zero compensation for Agent Orange exposure issues.
Guess they can close my case when I die.
This process has already been in place. The VA needs to work on assigning the claims faster than normal. They hired all these people to supposedly assist with the amount of claims that came in after the PACT ACT. But it seems like nothing has changed. You can remain in the viewing status for months heck maybe even years. I don’t think they go back and check the past documents. Their system needs a whole lot of fixing.
Step 5 needs to include this is where it is decided if your claim is being denied and denied…
Yes, VSO’S need authorization to print out anything the veteran requests pertaining to any claims, including the vets own military records!
Finding claim information is so difficult because it is termed “benefits” on the myhealthevet website, way down the page.
By the way, wait time is 26 minutes, oh they hung up on me.
Yep, check claims. Watch them sit for 4 months. And counting.
In step 1 for 60 days and counting.
US Army 1956 to 1959
We are headed in the right direction with these improvements, but the VA is SOOO far behind. If you look at any medical practice patient’s portal, an individual receiving services is allowed to view and download records. Of course, at verification of the patient’s right to access. And, this ability is offered at a fraction of the VA’s budget.
As for these features, I believe the Claims Tracker Extension app provides a better insight into an individual’s claim. It doesn’t provide information on files or requests, but it does provide information on movement, temporary jurisdiction, office and dates.
I can BUT I cannot understand why this process especially with the records side has to be SO DIFFICULT. You are given 12 months to file for an appeal or supplemental, but a FOIA can take up to that one year. Just to get records. If you don’t know what transpired (ie exam results) how do you know if you have the position to request an appeal (HLR)? I am 4 months into my waiting period for ONE C&P exam report…..WHY?? Every Vet should be given access to his/her exams once the claim is adjudicated…..I understand why it cannot be available during the process…..things change….opinions are updated or cleared up…..BUT after the claim has been decided?? No.
Come on VA….do better!
What good does this do if the status has been sitting in “received” for 2 months?
After you file a claim like I did, the VA will have you meet privately with a doctor. This doctor will try their best to discredit your claim. I found it’s not worth going to all the trouble to file a claim.
I’ve been fighting you scumbags for 16 years I truly believe you just want me to die so you don’t have to pay me SUCK MY DIRTY -SS YOU PRICKS!!!!
After surgery and total knee replacement along with the need for hearing aids, does the VA revisit and reevaluate your claim status?
From what I’ve seen this Claims Status Tool is non-functional. When I log into my VA account and try to look up my claim, I get the message that the site is not available.
Simply MORE propganda from the VA, just like their ‘travel reimbursement is so easy now’ dung speak. Accessing these sites are exercises in futility, yet inside operators bilk millions from the VA monies which they seamlessly convert to their own slush funds. I wish outgoing Sec’y McDonough and his team of head nodding automatons would step off the pedestal long enough to get those Pentagon awarded, low-bidding invertebrates in a room WITH VETERANS WHO DESERVE SO MUCH BETTER; who continue to endure pain, suffering and diminished lives for their service-connected human damage from war and battle. Today we watched an orange pustule PUT A THUMBS UP!!!!!! at Arlington National cemetery in a photo-op that was beyond odious, beyond profane. Yet those who lost so much are essentially told, all over again ‘Bye Bye, we’ll wait till you die’. The stinking, slimy., green river of wait times is a morass CREATED BY VA and SERVES VA Administration – NOT VETERANS. This begs the question for future generations: why serve at all? When your death will be memorialized by a thumbs up from a putrid, orange protozoan in a National Cemetery?
Make this work for supplemental claims as well. For near 90 days all it states is “an examiner is reviewing your new evidence.” This is false the claim is sitting in the national work queue and not being reviewed by anyone.
I was informed of two new things that Va would compensate for COPD and Aurthrites went to a c and p exam. And have been waiting several months and there is no information about the claim on the VA sire and we wait this held up my whole claim business. Seems like another way to hold things up and leave me hanging.
I have great experiences at the Edward Hines VA hospital. I applied for disability and submitted my application in July 2023. The initial application was denied so I retained an attorney and he filed an appeal in February 2024. By August 2024, I received a 100% rating retroactive on July 2023. The entire process from start to finish was 13 months. The attorney updated me on the status of my claim every step of the way. I’m truly grateful for his assistance.
Currently on day #381 from a LOD w/ diagnosis, treatment plan and meds since 01Apr23 and since had 3x clownshow C&P exams since. Each had all evidence uploaded to VA QuickSubmit prior to exams. Via my Wounded Warrior VSO, we filed a HLR in March 2024 and finally had the phone call in in July. The claim status tab on eBen only says “we found an error” and to expect something in the mail from VA in 4-5 months.
I’ve been denied on all my claims since 2013. I’m deaf and have heart condition ptsd all denied Va did no service connection. After higher level review from my claim in feb the Va is saying they maid an error. I’m sure it’s over my rating Va called me a machinist mate when in fact I was a jet engine mechanic and air crew. Been waiting since June 3 for a new decision. I tested the blast shields for the carrier fleet I have the serial number of the aircraft I tested and my qualification to turn up and ground operation of the F111B aircraft that the engines exploded on me I believe it’s service connected
The VA may have developed tools to view a claim but they have not invested in the processing of claims or n any worth while manner. My claim has ben in review for over 6 months with not one person able to tell what the hold up is!
How do I go about getting help with making a claim?
My claim has been stuck on step one since May. I have any and all info you may need but it’s not even moving.
I don’t see ANY tabs on the claims status section, only a message stating that a reviewer is looking over the evidence for my supplemental claims… for months it’s been that way.
The purported “tool” provides not SUBSTANTIVE information. Modern medicine provides patients either immediate radiological and medical written diagnoses or doctors reports within days, yet the VA continues to hide industry standard DISCLOSURES behind a veil of secrecy. Secrecy long criticized by congress and the INTENT of congress to eliminate information obstacles UNJUSTLY placed before veterans. Please end the FOIA gambits and accept requests made through login.gov or secure messaging AS legitimate FOIA/RECORDS requests prima facia !
I think the VA can be useful to block loan sharks and gains the vet prestige thru congressional references. The DAV is free but you really need evidence for settlements.Someday it will be improved to prevent crime for the los deficiencies and enlisted. For the officers it is irrational. Thanks
How do I know what I am entitled to if anything
I’ve been trying to view claim information for weeks on the VA
site and it has always been unavailable. When I called they told me a letter is in the mail and they can’t tell me what it says over the phone. Yet I have not received the letter and it was sent 8 days ago. They told me the site should be up “within the hour” but like I said I’ve been checking periodically since MAY and the claims information is never available. Can’t view decision letters, claims , nothing. The last time I was able to see my claim was when I sent it back in May.
So, as good of an idea it is, it hasn’t been working correctly.
My dad worked for years to receive benefits that he should have been made aware of after his service in Vietnam, but when he was finally made aware of them he was EIGHTY!
It actually took almost 4 years -appeal-after-appeal the claim was finally granted and he was so happy – well of course they didn’t just deposit the money into his account once the claim was granted ….. months passed and he ended up dying of cancer that he got from Agent Orange… before he received a penny and guess what happened next? As slooooow as the VA works to do anything they canceled his money transfer the day his death was reported to the VA.
So sad :( Very disappointing. Not the way to show respect for his service. I would have given anything to see him receive that money before he died. It’s so sad.
This article is not necessarily accurate. Under current status, if the VA has made a decision, it states that a letter has been sent. Even though no such letter is ever sent. The VA marks it now closed. With that in mind, you might never know what the results that were pending, might be.
Pretty much what you said only my spouse did finally receive benefits for a full year before he died and the day the VA was notified they stopped his payments. I have filed a claim for spousal benefits but the site will not let me open an account so I cannot see where the claim is now. It is so frustrating. He should have been receiving benefits for Agent Orange in Vietnam causing his condition for years and he only had them for a year and was too ill to appreciate them and now I am without him and barely enough income to keep me going.
I have had much success by visiting my local V.A. office. A Officer there has been so helpful to share information and has greater access than we do. I hope this helps.

The veterans administration is the worst managed most absurdly run and worst organization for customer service that I have ever had the displacer of having to work with the. Nothing that I have ever dealt with with the veterans administration has worked correctly it is mismanaged I am 69 years old and the better engine the information systems don’t work half the time and the people say things like oh that’s the VA or oh that’s the military that’s how bad it is the people that work there have excuses for how badly it is mismanaged
The claims status tool is a good step in the right direction. But I am puzzled why the VA will not provide view only access to the veteran’s claims file (c-file) that a veteran’s VSO can look at but not print out information from. We have to file a FOIA request and wait months to receive copy. VA has a serious transparency issue.
I have wondered this myself. I can view medical files and notes through the My Blue Button. Why not have a similar tool for the C-file.
I agree 100%! Veterans should have access to all the documents in the claim file as the claim moves forward. We need to see the quality of the C&Ps and be able to respond to a poor quality exam. Transparency is key for accountability with these private companies doin our c&ps.
I agree and the problem with a FOIA it takes so long to provide data that is already available.
I think we should have full access to the claims file with the ability to view and download the data. It’s problematic when you have to wait over a year for a FOIA request to receive the information needed for an appeal and by that time the deadline for an appeal has expired. Alternatively, All copies of C&P exams should be provided to the veteran along with the decision with a more detailed explanation concerning the decision of each claim.
I’m with Mr.G West on this one. Waited Years for a BVA Decision/Remand. Had the C&P Exam rescheduled by VA 3 Times, then was informed by phone 90 prior to Exam time NOT to come in!! NO way VA processes a FOIA Request prior to the Claim being Decided(DENIED)/Remanded adding 4-5 more YEARS to the process. RIDICULOUS!!!!!!
I filed back 10 trs ago for MST was denied due to no records being in my military file. I was between duty stations so the court Marshall paperwork didn’t make it to my new duty station. A little over a year ago I found out that I could request the court Marshall thru the freedom of information act. I received a copy and reopened my previous claim last September and I just had a comp and pen early in August. The App shows my claim is not in any stage. I was told the app and web page do not sync. Long story short I should have been sc all that time. But hey I couldn’t proof it so it didn’t happen…. very frustrating
Absolutely love this slap in the face mockery of a post! No matter how fast I check it, the VA dam sure isn’t gonna get in a hurry to rule, make a decision or grant a claim! I’ve never in my life seen such an organization that is so out to screw people over that your hired to take care of! To bad I’m not your boss cause you would all be fired!
Veterans should have access to all their C and P exams and be able to view their present claim forms without having to file a Foiaa request which takes 6 months or more. The VA makes it difficult to view your own records this is unacceptable and needs change immediately.
I completely agree.
I tried for an hour and a half and still unable to access my information.I already had an account and password. All the time I was on the phone with a VA information operator. When I thought I was All set it advised me that I needed a second form of identification a photo from a state identification card or my driver’s license. I explained to the VA representative that I am 72 years old and not computer savvy. I asked her to walk me through and she said she couldn’t. Huge waist of time causing great disappointment. Now I going have to pay someone to come to my house and have them do it for me. Due to injuries from a serious fall caused by my diabetic neuropathy and can’t drive.
I have been trying to get my VA Disability for many years. I was not made aware I could get benefits for my illness for many years. When I was informed I immediately filed and was denied. Apparently the VA lost my medical records that show my hospitalizations.
No one cares.
I AGREE 1000%…i also had to call to see the status of my older claim because it
wasn’t in any parts of my claims.i am not computer savvy.
Right On!??
I’ve Called V.A. At The V.A. Help Line1-800-827-1000 At Least 4 Times In The Last 2 Months, Each Time, I’m Told My Claim Is Decision “Ready” And If Anymore Information Is Needed They Will Contact Me. My Question Is What Is The Norm For A Claim To Stay In The Decision Ready Stage? Trying To Navigate The V.A. .Gov Website Is Like Trying To Gain Entry To Fort Knox!Gold Reserve, IT ALL Seems The Same Status Quo That Being “Hurry Up And Wait” As Veterans We Served Faithfully When Call To Duty. The V.A. Should Deal With Us Veterans Accordingly, In More Ways Than “Thank You For Your Service! It’s About Time The V.A. Serve Us As Expeditiously When It Comes To Processing Our Disability Claims!!
Exactly. Please send your congressional representatives an email demanding that the VA give veterans access to C&P exams as the claim develops.
I agree also
