This week’s Honoring Veterans spotlight honors the service of Navy Veteran Michael Clothier, who served from 1987 – 1991.

Clothier was born in June 1965. After attending John Dickinson High School in Wilmington, Delaware, he matriculated at Hodgson Vocational School, where he discovered a love for electrical trades. He entered the Navy in October 1987 as an electrician and served honorably through 1991, finishing his service on USS Spartanburg County (LST-1192) as a petty officer third class.

For service, he received numerous awards, including a Coast Guard Special Operations Ribbon, a Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, a National Defense Service Medal, a Humanitarian Service Medal and a Kuwait Liberation Medal from both Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.

Following his service, Clothier dedicated himself to his community. He continues to use the electrician skills he honed in the Navy, having recently served as master electrician in the construction of an Amazon warehouse in Wilmington.

Clothier is also commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post #2863 in Wilmington and remains active in all pertinent Veterans’ ceremonies, especially Memorial Day and Veterans Day. He is a generous supporter of children in his community as well, providing seasonal parties for them, hosting dinners for local families and sponsoring Soapbox Derby Races through his VFW post.

We honor his service.
