Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Army Veteran Archie Allen.
Archie Allen was born on Sept. 6, 1916, in Litchfield, Minnesota, and has been a resident of the State of Missouri since 1954. He turned 100 years old today.
Archie is a WWII veteran and one of 10 siblings, 6 of which served during WWII. Archie served in Naples, Italy from 1941 to 1945 as a cook in the officers’ mess hall. After four years of service and at the conclusion of the war, Archie was honorably discharged. He and all of his brothers who served survived the war.
Archie was married to his wife Bernie Allen for 74 years before she passed away earlier this year at the age of 98. They have had five children, three of whom are surviving, and have four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Most of the time Archie has lived in Missouri and has been in Hannibal, Missouri, where he has a residence, but now lives at Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Palmyra, Missouri.
Archie watches the Cardinals every chance he gets and has been a lifelong avid supporter and fan of the St. Louis Cardinals through the team’s 13 Division Titles, 19 National League Pennants, and 11 World Championships.
Happy Birthday, Archie! Thank you for your service.
