Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Army Veteran Marty Martinez.
Marty enlisted in the Army in 1991 and took his oath during Operation Desert Shield. His primary and secondary Military Occupational Specialties were Infantryman and Generator Mechanic, respectively.
Inspired by the stories his dad and uncle told him of their time in service during the Vietnam War, Marty became determined to serve. He was proud that they told him not only stories of fighting the enemy but also helping “villagers who were poor and in need of the simplest things.”
Marty went through basic training at Fort Dix, followed by Fort Benning where he attended the Army’s Airborne School. He was then assigned to Schofield Barracks in Hawaii. At Schofield, he had the opportunity to train at the Air Assault School.
Marty remembers his time in the Army with pride. He said, “I didn’t see combat, [but] I was and still am proud to have served our country and always will be. I have the utmost respect for Veterans of all eras and wars, as well as branch of service.”
Marty says he shares our Veteran of the Day posts every day. We appreciate Marty’s support and helping us spread these inspiring Veterans.
Thank you for your service, Marty!
