Russell served in the Marine Corps for more than 30 years.
He retired in 1990 as Weather Chief in on Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Arizona.
During his enlistment, he spent time at Kaneohe Bay, Cherry Point, Camp Pendleton, NAS Glenview and more. He also served in Japan and Vietnam.
