Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Ara Parseghian.
Ara served in the Navy during World War II.
While training at Naval Station Great Lakes, Illinois, he was recruited to play running back for the base football team and competed against the nation’s top college teams.
After service, he enrolled at Miami University in Ohio. After college, he joined the Browns. An injury led him to coaching, eventually at Notre Dame.
Ara coached Notre Dame’s football team for 10 years, winning two national titles and retired with a record of 95-17-4.
Ara passed away earlier this week at the age of 94.
We honor his service.
