Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Army Veteran Gregory Binford.
Gregory Binford enlisted in the Army in March 1989. He attended basic training at Fort Dix, New Jersey and Advanced Individual Training at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland. Prior to retiring, he was the Command Sergeant Major of the 8th Theater Sustainment Command on Fort Shafter in Hawaii. The 8th Theater Sustainment Command is a U.S. Army logistics center. It executes the essential missions of planning and synchronizing theater distribution and sustainment, protecting the force, and building partner capacity to secure the Indo-Asia Pacific region.
Gregory deployed to Bosnia in support of Operation Joint Endeavor and completed three combat tours in Iraq during Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Additionally, he completed one tour in Okinawa, Japan, two tours in Germany and nine U.S. installations at various posts. However, he states that the 8th Theater Sustainment Command at Fort Shafter, Hawaii is by far his favorite assignment because it’s an “encapsulation” of all his years of service.
Under his leadership, programs helping military families and the community and motivating soldiers towards professional development have always been of the highest priority. The Young Alaka’I program has been so successful it will soon be adopted at the U.S. Army Pacific level to strengthen, mentor and prepare future strategic leaders. In his free time, Gregory is an avid Kansas City Chiefs and Royals fan who loves antiques and history.
Thank you for your service, Gregory!
