#VeteranOfTheDay Army Veteran Millie Dunn Veasey

Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Millie Dunn Veasey.

Millie served in the Women’s Army Corps during World War II. She was a member of the “Six-Triple Eight” Central Postal Battalion. This was the only all-black, all female battalion to serve overseas during WWII.

When she returned from war, she used her G.I. Bill to attend and graduate from St. Augustine’s University in Raleigh, NC.

Millie became the first female president of her local NAACP chapter and was very active in the civil rights movement, getting the chance to meet Dr. Martin Luther King.

She was a member of VFW, DAV, and American Legion.

Millie passed away on March 9, 2018. She was 100 years old.

We honor her service.
