Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Army Veteran Huey Nelson Adams. Huey served during the Vietnam War from 1970-1971.

Raised in North Carolina, Huey was drafted into the military out of high school then received basic training at Fort Knox and Fort Dix. Upon completing basic training, Huey was assigned to the 525th Quartermaster Company and sent to Vietnam.

During his time in Vietnam, Huey was tasked with patrolling Long Binh and Saigon where he would come under sporadic sniper fire. Near the end of his service, Huey was stationed as a guard for a camp in Quang Tri. One night, after working multiple guard shifts without rest, Huey noticed the enemy had overrun the camp and reported it on the radio. During the ensuing battle, Huey was knocked unconscious and evacuated to Da Nang. Because of this traumatic battle, Huey suffered from PTSD and was sent home.

Huey now lives in Clinton, North Carolina, where he continues to advocate for Veteran’s mental health.

Thank you for your service, Huey!
