Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Army Veteran Jason Swindle. Jason served during the War on Terror.

Jason enlisted in the United States Army in July 2005. After completing his training, Jason was assigned as an infantryman with B Company, 1st Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment, 2nd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division stationed out of Fort Stewart, Georgia. During his service, Jason served two combat tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan.

On Sep. 20, 2012 while leading a mounted patrol in Panjway, Afghanistan, Jason’s unit was engaged by enemy fire. Jason was mortally wounded after being struck by a rocket propelled grenade.

Jason is interred at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens in White County, Arkansas. For actions during his service, Jason was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He is remembered by his friends and family as an exceptional leader and dedicated soldier.

We honor his service.

Memorial Day Awareness

This month, the VA’s National Cemetery Administration is partnering with Carry the Load, a nonprofit organization that connects Americans to the sacrifices made daily by the U.S. military, Veterans, first responders and their families to commemorate the “Memorial May” awareness campaign. The VA will share the stories of service members and Veterans who paid the ultimate sacrifice in “Veteran of the Day” posts leading up to Memorial Day 2019.
