Tanveer Qureshi, MD, Chief of Primary Care at Wilmington VA was surprised during the Director’s monthly All Employee Town Hall held in the medical center’s auditorium on September 4. Dr. Qureshi transferred to Wilmington VA from the Coatesville VA several years ago and four of his former primary care patients requested the opportunity to recognize him for the excellent care he had provided. Vietnam Veterans Charles G. McMahon, James Dougherty, Steven Green and Peter Tyler presented Dr. Qureshi with a plaque and helicopter. Charles built the helicopter with mahogany from Vietnam and then painted it to include a red cross and Dr. Qureshi’s initials. Photo by Wilmington VA staff.
On September 5th, the Cincinnati VA Medical Center partnered with the Hoxworth Blood Center from the University of Cincinnati to host a facility blood drive. Blood drives hosted at the Cincinnati VAMC are held quarterly and donations are honorably used for Veterans receiving care at the Cincinnati VAMC. Associate Director for Patient Care Services-Chief Executive Nurse, Ms. Jane Johnson, MSN, RN, VHA-CM, participated as a donor to provide a “double red” donation. If you meet certain criteria, a double red donation allows you to safely donate two units of red cells during one appointment through an automated donation process. The procedure uses a smaller needle and collects enough red blood cells to be transfused to two different patients. You maximize your impact and only donate once. Tuscaloosa #VA Medical Center’s Escort Service continues to be one of the most highly needed services for Veterans. The dedicated team of Compensated Work Therapy (CWT) Veterans have been diligently working in order to ensure the success of Escort Service. Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center are proud of the work that their CWT Veterans have done on behalf of the facility. They especially want to recognize TVAMC Escort Peer Leader, Matthew Williams (pictured on the right). Mr. Williams was recently promoted to Peer Leader, in which he trains new Escort CWT Veterans, manages the wheelchairs on behalf of the facility, ensures wheelchairs are safely equipped, and reports any malfunctioning wheelchairs. Thanks again for the valuable service that the CWT Escort Veterans provide in Transitional Work! Photo by Tuscaloosa VA staff.
