Dwright Fowler-Davis enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1998 and served as a paratrooper and parachute rigger until he left the service in 2002. During that time, he was stationed with the 1st Air Delivery Platoon in Camp Pendleton, Calif., where he enjoyed training with Navy SEALs, Marine Force Reconnaissance, Army Rangers and Army Parachute Riggers.
Fowler-Davis broke his back on a parachuting landing in 2000 but recovered to complete his enlistment. The pain he said he endured prepared him for life—and hardship—after service. He has experienced homelessness, divorce, self-doubt, multiple failed business ventures, professional setbacks and service-related disabilities.
He believes he is stronger from these experiences. Today, he has two master’s degrees in education therapy, and is pursuing a doctorate in advanced clinical skills. He is also the co-owner of a UPS Store in Philadelphia and a franchisee of two JDog Junk Removal & Hauling locations in Delaware.
Fowler-Davis earned the Parachute Rigger Badge in 1998, Navy/Marine Corps Parachute Badge in 1999, and also earned a Good Conduct Medal and a Navy Unit Commendation in 2001 (a unit commendation he received for joint operations after 9/11). He is married to Joy Fowler-Davis, an Army National Guard Veteran.
Thank you for your service!

I am an Air Force Veteran. My inspiration for the military was my grand father and all the current and past servicemen and servicewomen. I am also disabled and these stories are so inspiring to me because sometimes I feel like giving up but because of my six boys and my fellow servicemen I am still alive, struggling but happy to have children who love me. I’m a single parent, without the military giving me confidence to always press on no matter the situation. Thank you for all you do. Airmen Michelle Fuentes RN
