Established in 2007, Guitars for Vets, a non-profit organization, came together when Marine Corps Veteran Dan Van Buskirk took months of guitar lessons from Patrick Nettesheim. Through their lessons, Van Buskirk was able to learn to play the guitar and since then, the two became friends. Both realized that these lessons created an outlet for expression as well as provided a positive interaction. Together they went to the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to share their story. Since then, Guitars for Vets, or G4V, has expanded to be operating out of 110 VA chapters in 40 states.
The G4V guitar instruction program can help Veterans working through physical injuries, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other forms of emotional distress. Music therapy is an evidence-based clinical treatment designed to help Veterans through music. The therapy can help improve Veterans’ communication, coordination and interpersonal skills. Nettesheim also developed the G4V “four-way path,” which consists of Patience, Acceptance, Gratitude and Empathy (PAGE). These are the guiding principles used throughout the program.
The G4V program starts with a 10-week instruction period. During this time Veterans are given one-on-one individualized lessons. They promote teaching the music that appeals to the student and works at the students’ pace. After completing the lessons, the graduation process involves receiving a free acoustic guitar and guitar accessory kit. The next step is to continue practicing and learning. Each month there are group sessions organized by one of the 110 chapters and growing. The group sessions develop a community of fellow Veterans and guitarist. To date, GV4 has provided over 4,000 guitars to Veterans.
Enrollment in G4V requires a referral from a case or social worker to a local VA office that offers a G4V program. G4V does not control admission into the program. To find a local chapter they offer a locator tool on their site https://guitars4vets.org/about-us/find-a-chapter/.

I was a Guitar 4 vets teacher in 2013 & 2014, I would like to volunteer to teach again.
I’d like to learn, but the nearest place to me is Pensacola, fl. My car is 23 years old, its good for running around town. I’d be worried to get on the interstate.

I would like the guitar and lessons. Didn’t see anything for Alabama. Would it be possible to get a guitar and some self instructional CD/DVD set? That would be better than nothing!
Just like any opportunity for a vet, sign up to find it is most likely full before posted.
I registered for the free guitar lessons but have heard back from anyone.

just moved to the Memphis area from Savannah, GA. 20yr vet with PTSD, rated. How do i get signed up??
I have contacted the Memphis Chapter, but have not heard back yet.
Could someone give me some step-by-step guidance?
I’m a 21 year Army veteran. I have lost some hearing during my tours, but I don’t have PTSD or other injuries. I went to a VA Clinic and they said I still had to go to the psychiatry department to complete all my evaluations. These guys basically blew me off. I’d love to play guitar, but another benefit I’m apparently not qualified to receive. Perhaps I was misinformed all of those 21 years.
I would love to take these lessons, as many many replying here do. But I dont see anything on how to sign up to take them. It would be helpful if there was a link provided with detailed information on how to sign up or who to call. If you can, please let us know because this seems like another dead end to me at this point.

I would like to participate in the G4V program in the Sacramento-Roseville, Placer County, California region. Help procuring a guitar & lessons would help me fulfill a life-long goal and to meet other veterans. Thank you!
I am an intermediate guitar player that could use some support here in Cedar Rapids, Iowa! I don’t need your guitar, just some way to consolidate my feces! I have gotten rusty and lost my muse! Help!
After checking, it does not appear that we have a chapter in or near Fayetteville, Arkansas. We have a VA here. I would love to learn how to play guitar. Is there any kind of list where we can sign up to be notified if a chapter is started in our area? Just an idea…
Tony,
There is a chapter of Soldier Songs and Voices here in Fayetteville and we provide a service similar to G4Vets.
My name is Lee, 479-422-4123 or soldiersongsandvoicesnwa@gmail.com. Contact us and we can get you going on some lessons.

It is great to see so much interest in playing guitar. I started playing 12 years ago. I learned with a course taught by Steve Krenz called “Learn & Master Guitar” and I have been playing ever since. Playing guitar can bring great joy to your life.
Guitars for Vets is well known among the learning guitar players. This is a great program.
The portal in which refers you to the website for your local chapter fails to populate even though you get directors of each chapter when you click on it it asks you to make a donation instead of giving you information on how to apply.
This is stressful especially with veterans such as myself who already have PTSD to run into this situation where no viable results come out of following the links.
If anyone is aware of contact information for chapter at the Ann arbor VA or Saginaw VA please let me kddunow
Paul Balge May 06, 2021
I am Very Much Interested in the program. But they will need to have someone that plays (Left Handed), if there is such a thing? Because that is how I would have to play. I have always loved guitar music, especially when you get to the twangy type. I would really like to get into the program, and have mentioned it to some of the therapist at the Zablocki VA Medical Center Already.
i would also like to sign up for guitar lessons in portland va. i don’t have a guitar do i need one?
I followed the info to search for a local chapter. When selected, the only chapter in Atlanta goes directly to a donation page. No other info is available. This is supposed to be sponsored by the VA…… what a rip-off.
I would like to sign up for this in Portland Oregon.
I’M INTERESTED IN GUITAR LESSONS……HOW AND WHERE DO I GET STARTED?
CAN WE TAKE THE LESSONS ON MY VIRTUAL COMPUTER SCREEN?

Very much interested in this program – called the vendor on the list – Sam Ash Music Store in Henrico, Va – they said that they knew nothing of this program??

I am interested in guitar lessons. I received this message and am I am eligible vet if I haven’t a counselor from VA.
This recent comment on the website:
“We apologize for any inconvenience to anyone trying to reach our website, we are currently working on the problem.
If you are looking to reach G4V for any more information, please email us at info@guitarsforvets.org or call us at 855-G4V-HERO
Again, we apologize!”
nice rabbit hole. website is not active. click bait.
I am interested. The site is down. In Sacramento CA
I tried to sign up but it wants a log in. Can someone explain how I get a log in for the program?
I can find out if there is a chapter in my city or state cause it won’t let me into the website unless I log in. There’s no way to register onto the site. it seem you must already be a registered member to even find out if there is a chapter my city.
that’s so wrong.
I checked this in the past and the only chapters I found were in the Chicago area in Illinois. Haven’t heard anything since. It could be a good program if they would follow through. So many things we hear are not consistent.
Is this Iron Man Claybaugh?
Maybe the VA is sincere and have good intentions in trying to help veterans. However, as you can see, They set up/notify of programs, then the web sites don’t work, you cannot be verified, the phone lines are always busy, put you on hold then drop call, don’t call you back, or don’t have enough qualified instructors or ran out of money after 2 months.
Hello, how do we sign in to this program, do we use our VA login, if not do we need to create one, and how do we create one; there’s no option to create a username/ID after clicking on the link, and if you don’t login I get the following message:
Unauthorized
This server could not verify that you are authorized to access the document requested. Either you supplied the wrong credentials (e.g., bad password), or your browser doesn’t understand how to supply the credentials required.
Gainesville, GA., can’t access website.
When I try to open the link to sign up it ask for credentials like a username and password and I dont have one.
I am a 100% disabled SCV. I live 45mi. from Dayton VAMC. No one there has even heard about the VA guitar instruction program, including Mental Health dept., from whom I am getting counseling assistance.

You need a referral before you can even find out where it is offered??? How helpful is that? Full name required even to post this reply? Why?
Site is down currently.. Phones must be overloaded too. I sent an e-mail.
Just google guitars for vets and it will take you there, don’t try it from this page. Exit out then do it..
Is this offered in the Houston Tex area and can all Veterans join? I need this for MH. Unable to set up an account or verify approved locations.
If you served in a combat theater, try the Post Oak Vet center. (713) 682-2288. I have been in group there for year’s and it’s lots of fun. If you are not combat theater guess you will have to keep trying the guitar for vets website. Good luck, playing guitar is outstanding therapy for ptsd folks.
I am located in Sandusky Ohio. I have known about this program for several years now. I can never get a response for any question I ask about local chapters or getting lessons. This isnt a “crashed site” problem, I think it is an administration problem. Whoever is supposed to run this site sucks at their job. Now I suppose this comment will “Bar me for life”…..
how do we sign up for these lessons?
Lots of comments about the same thing. I’m one of them too
I wanna sign up for G4v could use lessons but can’t how sight broke down. Thanks
06 May 21
TYPICAL…
If it comes from the v a you can be assured that it is broken or never worked.
How hard could it be to create a website and then take it for a test drive to make sure it actually works???
Cannot put the blame on the volunteers who are willing to provide lessons…issues come from within, as usual!!!
Ten dollars says that the person responsible was timing his “earned” hourly break to his departure time and then forgot because the next day they were serving his favorite slop in the cafeteria.
Of course, they will see the number of concerns / complaints and then scrap the whole idea…just another beijing biden screw-up.
[Editor: This isn’t a VA program or webpage. The heavy interest derived from last night’s email crashed G4V’s webpage. They’re aware and addressing it.]
What the heck does this have to with Biden or Beijing, the VA sucks regardless of who the heck is president.
Hey Editor, please address forest williams’ comment above at 9:52. He says he’s been trying for YEARS just to get signup information. This looks like a fraud. You can still donate and buy merchandise. But you can’t even find a local chapter? Right…
[Editor: The email went out to 11.5 million Veterans and the very high interest crashed G4V’s webpage. It’s back up now, but G4V’s contact information is in the blog post, and elsewhere in these comments.]
This is not part of the VA. It is a private organization.
I try to get to the website and it’s asking me for a username and password even though I’ve never opened an account on Guitars4vets. I would really love to learn to play guitar.
I can’t get any information either I tried everything can’t sign in or anything. Nice to have a phone number
Enrollment in G4V requires a referral from a case or social worker to a local VA office that offers a G4V program. Contact your local VA and inquire about it.
call us at 855-G4V-HERO
I found this number on Facebook. They have a page there also.
You would think that after all the comments about the site not working, you’d do something about it. What are we supposed to do doggonit?
Prior to posting opportunities, ensure your web addresses work properly. I work for a benevolent organization and would love to disseminate this.
[Editor: The heavy interest crashed the program’s website. They’re looking into it.]
I clicked and clicked and clicked on several aforementioned links. Nothing. Like VA all show no go.
A message for the good of the group. I have notified the folks at G4V of their website issues and they are contacting their web administrator to get this resolved. Too good of a program to pass up. Stay vigilant folks but be respectful, they are only trying to help us with a free program. Tech/IT issues can happen to anyone.
Your “guitarsforvets.org” link does not work either. None of the links work. This is ridiculous. No one can use this great program until the links are fixed. It does not good to waste people’s time by posting the same comment about getting into the site over and over again. Just fix the link.
[Editor: Sorry, Ronald. The heavy interest crashed their page. They’ve posted an update on their Facebook page.]
Now it asks for a username and password for the website….
I would like to sign up, but the link is broke?
I would like to sign up,but link is not working?
call us at 855-G4V-HERO
Found this phone on their Facebook page
When you e-mail you get this reply. VA should of checked their article before posting. Non of the links work by the way. Click on them and you get the login/password prompt.
Guitars for Vets website is down, please try the chapter finder when the website is back up
https://guitars4vets.org/about-us/find-a-chapter/
If no local chapter, apply through the CyberChapter link

This is an auto-reply while the website is down
If you do not get a reply from the chapter please followup

[Editor: The heavy interest in this program caused the website to crash. G4V is aware and working on it.]
Norman,
I tried to find the “Cyber Chapter” but no such luck. Could you Please provide a link where this can be found. It’s not on the find a chapter page that I could see.
Thank You!
When can the site be fixed to allow access to the information?
Wish someone would fix the link!!!
I’m interested in this as well but probably do not qualify for it. Link does not work. Why hasnt the VA corrected it or acknowledge their mistake.
[Editor: This isn’t a VA program. The heavy interest crashed the webpage. G4V posted an update on their Facebook page.]
HTTP auth login needs work. Try the Facebook link – they are aware of the problem.
https://www.facebook.com/GuitarsForVets/
I got the link to work but I don’t have face book, no do I want face book. So I guess vets like me are SOL. S.N.A.F.U. Hello, not everyone has facebook…………
I also want nothing to do with Face crook, it’s ridiculous that it’s even suggested.
Your welcome (for giving you something else to gripe about) As an added bonus: the mess hall is out of steak and chicken – it’ll be hamburger for the rest of the month
https://shop.guitars4vets.org/account/register
Fix the link or stop advertising this group.
tried all of the links ……………………. NOTHING
I am very interested but can not log in. Thank you
From their facebook page
“We apologize for any inconvenience to anyone trying to reach our website, we are currently working on the problem.
If you are looking to reach G4V for any more information, please email us at info@guitarsforvets.org or call us at 855-G4V-HERO”
I am not able to get to the web site. I am having the same issue as others. It is asking me for a login and password.
Love the idea but just like everyone else I cannot log on. I tried the link Mark listed in his replies and still nothing. Always asks for log in and password which we do not have. Hopefully they will send out a working link soon.
The link doesn’t work as you all see, but go to their facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/GuitarsForVets/. You can email or call them at info@guitarsforvets.org or call us at 855-G4V-HERO. Hope this helps.
This happens every time something like this comes up on the VA news letter. The site cant handle all the traffic and gets shut down. This place has been around since 2007 and only have given out 4000 guitars because no one has ever heard of it. They put a free scuba diving giving lesson one on here and the same thing happened. Because no one had ever heard of it before and had been around for years.
Please help me to make contact to enroll
Hello! My name is Shelley Kneece. I’m a CVSO out of Bellefontaine, Ohio and I’m seeking information about this program for one of my local vets. I’m not very technologically savvy and I’m having trouble getting an email to go through to “locate a local chapter” and I’m also having trouble logging into the system.
Can anyone give me an “Ohio” connection to this program?
Thank you for any responses I may receive.
This sounds like a great program! I’m interested, but when I try the site link I get prompted to sign-in (user name & password). What am I doing wrong? Please advise so I can find the chapter near me and start the process. Thank you!
Am I the only one that can’t access the link? It asks for username and password immediately, I can’t access any information to find if there is even a local chapter. There is no option for new users.
I have been trying to find a chapter near me but it ask me to login before taking me to the page. When I hit the cancel button it says I am not authorized to view the page.
Typical VA program. Never works like it should. I would also like to join this group, but looks impossible.
The link appears to be broken- asking for a username and password to view the site. Any ideas?
Thanks
I can’t get to your website because it asks for a password. It offers no way to make one. I want to see if this is offered through the Portland VA.
What username and password are we supposed to use to access the guitarsforvets link above?
Is this program available in Puerto Rico ?
I am trying to access the link provided in the comments and the article to find a chapter near me; however, am getting this error message. Any assistance would be appreciated-thank you.

Hell: I am a left handed veteran, but I live in Puerto Rico
Fix the link at the end of the article. It come to a log in screen.
I’m trying to follow the links to find a chapter but when I go to guitars4vets.org, I am asked for a sigh in/password. As a result, I cannot get anywhere. Sadly.
Whenever I try to access the guitarsforvet, org, it asks me to login – but gives me no way to register for an account.
Site keeps asking for a username and password…no matter how I try to go to it: From Google, the link that Mark Shirk posted or any other way.
Very frustrating!
None of the links work, they all take you to a page where you already have to be signed up. It offers a login only.
My husband was U.S.A.F., Korean Conflict. Owned a Martin 000-18, and made it “walk the dog.!” Just want to tell all the vets, Thank You, for your service, dedication, the sacrifices you made. Guitars for Vets is a mindblowing solution for stress relief, so to all our amazing Vets; ready, set, let’s hear that amazing guitar playing.! The words “I CAN’T -” DOES NOT EXIST…You’re military – you can do anything! Thank You…..
When you go to the website it asks for a username and password. That’s BS…
Every time I click on the link it requests login info and password?
I try to get to the site but it keeps asking for my user name. How do I access the site? I’m looking for Dayton Oh chapter or close by. Thank you.
The link for the website is dead or asks the user to sign in. Do you have a better website address?
When I try to navigate to guitarsforvets.org it asks for a username and password. Won’t let me past that point. Suggestions? I’ve never signed up before. First time using the site. Thanks!
All links to your site require login and password and provide no way to sign up or bypass.
My name is Julius I am 100% PTSD and would love to sign up for guitar lessons. What is the closest chapter to Augusta GA and how do i contact them? I tried the website and did not work.
I tried going on to the site, but it keeps asking me for my username and password. I’ve tried guitars4vets.org and guitarsforvets.org.
I’m interested in getting guitar lessons how do I sign up?
Accessing the website requires a login and password?
I am interested in the guitar lessons. I live in Norman Oklahoma
Be nice to go to the site but every time I do, I get a login page with no option to register…
I’m frustrated because I am interested in this program. However, when I click the links or try to go to their website, it immediately wants me to log on with a username and password to even see anything. Does anyone know what to do to get in touch with them?
I would love to learn the guitar!
Please tell me how.
Darin

I’m from Gainesville, Fl. When I try to see if you guys have a program here, it asks me to log on. Do you guys have a program here in the Gainesville, Fl VAMC?
Wow, what a great opportunity! I have always wanted to learn to play blues guitar. I served with the 2/75th Airborne Rangers, Ft Lewis, Washington from 1975-81.
I now live in Tempe, Arizona. I would like to find a chapter here but can’t find a chapter because the guitar for vets site requires a password to enter. Can you please help me?
Thank you!
Mike Daniels
How can you get to the website when it requires a user name and password?
I too would like to learn how to play guitar.
Thanks
Being a 67 year old war veteran I hope it’s not too late to live the dream of playing guitar.
Just interested in learning more for now..
I played for 35+ years and my dreams are about the only time it seems I know how to play anything. I did get arthritis in my left hand from the many hours practicing!
The point is give it a shot but if you could do it you prolly would be already after all these years, maybe drums or trumpet are more your style. Guitar is hard to take up at this age because of the finger strength required. Classical (nylon string) more forgiving if you must.
Hi Steve. I’m also 67. Started playing drums last sept first time since college. It’s never to late to try. Besides, you’re gonna be 80 some day anyway, why not know how to play guitar when you get there. I was offered chance to play with a church band. Anything is possible.
When I click on the link for:
https://guitars4vets.org/about-us/find-a-chapter/
I get this message:

At first it was asking for my username and password, but I don’t have either one for this. I have no idea what to do.
I just got the email about the guitar lessons and I am extremely interested in taking lessons. I think it would be amazing to be able to play the guitar it sounds like a fun hobby and a great way to relieve stress and put a smile on other people’s faces. I hope that someone replies back to me.
The links referenced in this article don’t seem to work (https://guitars4vets.org). It says a login and password is needed. Also does not seem to be a way to set up a log in I’d and password. How can I get more info on this program and find out if there is a chapter near me?

I think I found a chapter link in Fort Wayne, Indiana but closed the link before getting all the steps. Now I can’t get back to the find a link page without being asked for a username and password that I don’t have. In effect, I’m locked out.
Could someone give me the Fort Wayne chapter link, please?
This is a wondering thing that the VA is offering.I would love to play the guitar as it would help me with the stress I am having as a caregiver for my wife is very ill. I need a way to ease my stress as I have CHF and my cardiologist is concerned. I was wondering if these guitar lessons are online? I live in a very rural area and at my age, it is hard to travel to a larger city. If I can be helped by learning, it would be a blessing. Thank you very much and hope to hear from you soon.

Trying to find out if there is a chapter in the Orlando area but every time I hit the link, I get a login screen. How can I log in if I never created an account?
Hi. I live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I play drums and have my own. If any guitar players need a
Rhythm section I play time pretty good. Would be fun.
Need to find this guitar group—music is my drug of choice for my PTSD & Bipolar Disorders. Having difficulty getting on the site & if I get on site I immediately get bumped back off within a minute. Will keep trying though. Thanks
Tried the link to see available chapters (from Leavenworth, Kansas) but unfortunately, it goes to log in site when I cancel, it says unauthorized. Would like to know more…
Thanks,
Mike
I try going to the site but it says its I’m un authorized to be on the page and to enter credentials. I am interested in the program but the site I guess wont allow me on it.
Hey fellow vets, do any of you know if this works on mobile? I recently broke my laptop when I had an anxiety attack (I fell on it) and when I tried to sign up by clicking the link, I get a message asking to input my username and password. Any help? Thanks!
Where do the lesson take place ?? i i am also a lefty thanks Dave
Is there any in the Wilkes Barre PA area ??
I have a guitar for over 10 years and I’ve never been able to learn how to play it… I am 100-% disabled. I’m retired state law enforcement. PTSD. And lower left leg amputee. I wish I could learn… I really do. But I’m sure I’m in an area where they don’t have anyone teaching any vets. We seem to not have much here. It’s always somewhere else:.. somewhere else… anyway it seems like a good idea… I saw it on the country music awards and it seemed like they were very helpful.
i would be interested in guitar for vets. I had a major brain injure back in 83. I am currently in treatment for bipolar, boarderline personality disability, anger issues and a what ever the VA wants to label me. I find music very helpful on bad days, believe me I have many of them.
I strongly learning the play the guitar would be helpful. I have always want to learn

This looks awesome, and I am very interested in participating, but when I click on the link I get directed to a different site: https://adworkers.com/
The link for the program in blog and comments is wrong. Any idea what it should be? (It immediately redirects to adworkers website.)
The website is broken. Something is wring with the site’s SSL certificate. It’s either expired or incorrectly installed on the site, rendering the Guitars4vets.org website inaccessible. I am interested in the program, but have my own guitar.
Is there a volunteer guitar in Pueblo, CO?
I’m interested, but every time I click on the link it sends me somewhere else… some https://adworkers.com/ website … This stuff seems a fair bit hinky to me…
It appears that the guitar for vets website was hijacked and goes to some kind of ad site. I suspect that the email address will go to the same hijacked site. I am very interested in this program. I live in Tacoma, WA. -JJ
I can’t access the link. I get a warning message that it’s not secure and may compromise any information I input. Is there another way to find my way to this program? I’m in the San Francisco Bay Area.
I live in Duluth, MN and would love lessons. Can someone help me get connected please?
I am an older military intelligence veteran. I am extremely interested in this guitar program where I would learn the guitar and then receive one after my classes. I’m located in San Diego California. Sadly the link here does not work in the email that someone reference also came back as returned.
WHAT IS THE WEBSITE. THE LINK PROVIDED IN THE EMAIL COMES UP WITH 404 ERROR. THANK YOU.
I am looking for a chapter in the Phoenix, Arizona area.
Tried to get to a place so I can contact someone about this, never got there. I live near Vancouver, Washington
Is there a program in Phoenix, Arizona. I tried going to the site, but the browser said it was a bad site.
None of the links provided – both in the article and comments work. It sends you to some Adworks page. Anyone find the actual website?
Hello I try logging into you web sight but unable trying to find out if Long Beach VA offers the guitar lessons ? Than you
You va dumb fcks are giving a Cap. that you can’t answer.
Asking shit like 20 x 22 and only letting you put in a to number answer. Smh
What? Your post is not even coherent…try again without the cuss words.
I am interested in lessons. Please let me know what I have to do.
Thanks!
1SG Mike Puccio
This is a fantastic idea!! i wish i were more musically inclined, Bless all of you for the work your doing!!!
I am trying to sign up IF there is a chapter near my 33317 zip code for Plantation, Florida.
I hate to be critical but your web site stinks to try to navagate it.
I have a guitar but have never learned to play it. I’m 100% service-connected for ishemic heart disease, hearing loss, PTSD and other conditions. I did two combat tours in Vietnam as a paratrooper/infantry soldier. I was wounded in combat and was decorated for valor and gallantry. I live in Laveen, Arizona, a bit SE of Phoenix. I am a published poet and I have written many a song lyric. I am a member of VFW and DAV but I am a bit of a loner and don’t go to meetings. I would be appreciative of any lessons I could obtain.
Just another website for vets that doesn’t work, constantly crashes, or fails to load. So tired of this happening.
I’m a vet who literally just moved this week across the country to a small village via car. I’d love to be a part of this program but I already disconnected with my therapist. What options do I have?

I can’t get this link to work. Sucks when you have anxiety and crap like this happens
I am looking for a Banjo teacher, because I remember hearing my father play the 1928 Tenor Banjo I inherited from him and want to learn. Please respond
Thank you
Hello I am an Army vet and I have been curious to learn the guitar for many years!
I can’t get the links to work! I’ve lived with chronic pain since 2005 when I busted my shoulder, then 2009 when I had a rare nerve injury. I’m 80% with IU. I also suffer from anxiety and chronic depression. I go to the Pittsburgh VA hospital. Can anyone help me get in touch or enrolled?
Mary
Can’t open the site for information
fl.ftmyers@guitarsforvets.org , http://www.gutarsforvets.org neither of these links are working. When I write in this box, does not post, and it reads, ” you already posted before”. I did not. I am sort of disappointed; because I was happy to read about the opportunity of learning Guitar, now it is going to the black hole again. Like most everything else they do for veterans. Almost like just checking the box, and it would disappear, and majority of the veterans would not even know about it. I am trying to find out if there is any chapter in Alaska for teaching Guitar. My name is Fresh
Fresh, G4V is having trouble with web page. Check with your local music store(s). They are usually a first contact for G4V. I found my chapter through the store “Guitar Works” Hope this helps. G
Can I still sign up for guitar lesson? I received the email today and the date was for the lesson date had passed (April 26th)
Or are they ongoing?
Thank You,
Joseph Salazar
I am a US ARMY veteran, non combat disabled from a service connected accident. I also have complex PTSD, as well as service connected PTSD.
I would love to start the lessons, to learn how to play guitar. Was not able to connect to the site, to find a chapter in my area. I live in Morrison, Colorado. Can you help with this issue? I am also Left handed, so I hope that will not be an issue. Please notify whom ever this pertains to, to un- block any private number they may contact me from. Thank you very much.
Can I still sign up for this? I always wanted to learn!
Hey james.
Just wanted to say hello, and I can relate to some of what you said.
No time ever waited on a brother or sister!

I am a disabled vet of 25% I believe that’s on my record . I am under the care of my mental health Dr in the HorshamClinic in Horsham, Pa .
I would like to learn more about how to enroll in the free guitar lessons forVets.in Pa @ Fl .
My name is Marshall p. . Allu.
I look forward to hearing from you!!
I’m interested in this guitar program but the links (to find local VA where it’s available) do not work! I’ll have to call around and see if I can figure this out…
If anyone has had success in getting more info, another problem there!…how to let me (and everyone else interested) know…somehow!
I am interesting in a guitar lesson and guitar. Am in Tampa, FL I love music used to play the clarinet in middle school.
The link keeps timing out to: Page Not Found error. If there is another way to contact this program, please let me know?
I’ve tried the link a dozen times and all I get is “site can’t be reached”. Is the site down at night? I’m interested in finding out if there’s a group in my area in NW Montana.
I have tried to get the link to website towork. It come up with a not responding message. I live in the Sata Rosa area. I sthere a guitars for vets in this area?
I’m an AF Veteran looking 4 free guitar lessons.
Would like to learn to play the guitar. I’m a Vietnam vet. I live in
Prescott Valley Arizona
i can’t find out if there is a cooperating chapter of guitars for vets near the va hospital in poplar bluff mo. i am taking piano lessons, but would also like to learn to play the guitar. i already have a guitar. when i click on one of the sites indicating where you can find out if there is a local chapter, i haven’t been successful in getting an answer. would appreciate finding out more on this.
I am retired Navy, and living in the Philippines. Would it be possible for this program to be offered at the VA Regional Office, in Manila? I am very interested in this. Thank you so much.
Find A Chapter link does not work. Anything near Camp Pendleton area?
I am a G4V grad of about 5 years now. I was brought into G4V by a buddy in my American Legion post. Our local G4V chapter used to meet at the Grand Rapids Home For Veterans before covid spread. The VA has literally NOTHING to do with the G4V program. See other replies here for the real skinny on joining and the G4V web site for real info.. I wish that I had started playing 50+ years ago. It is so fun and soothing to me. When I am feeling stressed, I grab my guitar and go for a little winding down time.
Is the web site down?? Tried multiple times…maybe this article killed your site with foot traffic. I’ll try again later. VERY interested in getting into this program. I’m in Denver and HOPE it’s here. It’s serendipity if I get in; I’ve been talking for over 3-4 years about wanting to learn, but didn’t have the money for lessons or my own guitar. Then pandemic happened, and I heard there were FREE online lessons…but still had no guitar. So I put this on the back burner until some unknown future date. And then THIS :-). SO, I REALLY hope I can get onto the web site when it’s running again.
I am not rated any disabilities, but am a retired vet. I would love to take advantage of this program. But I hope that those that are eligible use this program to heal.
I’ve always wanted to learn how to play the guitar. I remember sitting in the middle of Iraq many nights and one of the jarheads would take out his guitar and start playing. He sling his guitar and start playing and still had his weapon attached to him. It was great. I’m very interested in learning how to play the guitar.
Someone should make a list of all the VA centers in the U.S.that have the guitars for vets.I might even be interested in learning, have played around but never learned to play.
Am interested in your guitar lessons have had several traumatic brain injuries and though this causes depression am still trying to live a life.
I am a Navy vet have tried to learn to play forever, turning fifty this year, and learning how to play is still on my bucket list.
I lost my dad before the holidays last year, and dealing with helping my wife, son and daughter take care of my mom with dementia. I think this would help me vent some of that stress.
I would love to learn how to play the guitar.
Can somebody please help me? I used to be in a Music Therapy class back in Alaska at JBER. But when I changed V.A. Locations they said they didn’t have anything like that so I never got to complete the course it was helpng me a lot. I don’t know where to start or how to get into this. I tried to go to the page but the internet browser won’t open on my phone and I don’t have a computer.
I would be interested in your guitar program. I’m hoping someone in the Blue Springs/Kansas City, Mo area might have this available.
I’m very interested in the Guitars4Vets program. But the link won’t let me try to see who I can email. Someone please help me. I live in Grand Rapids Michigan.
This sounds like a wonderful program, but as a Board Certified Music Therapist myself, this can not be called “music therapy” unless the lessons are conducted by a Board Certified Music Therapist (someone who has received their Bachelor’s or Master’s in music therapy, followed by internship, and finally, sitting for the CBMT exam to become certified). You can absolutely say that the music and concept is therapeutic for its participants. As music therapy professionals, we work so hard to not minimize or generalize what we do, and to not be confused with programs that are not run by a MT-BC, but call themselves music therapy. Keep up the good work and learn more about music therapy here: http://www.musictherapy.org
I played guitar many years ago and haven’t played since 1990, the year I retired from the US Navy. I was wondering if there is free lessons for violin? I’ve been practicing for the last five years. Not moving forward very fast and the violin teachers here are extremely expensive. My hats off to you and those that have supported this program and provided the instruction for veterans.
ETCM(SW) Robert Virden (Retired)
i am having trouble accessing the website to get more info. I clicked the link but it shows an error. whats the info needed to sign up? any help
Great idea, too bad the link doesn’t work, it just times out……
I’ve been looking for G4V for 2 years but haven’t been able to connect with the chapter in Portland, Or.
I have PTSD diagnosis and approval from my PCP Social Worker.
Anxious to learn at 74 before I get too old !
It’s a great day!
I’d rather get a free ride to the Prescott VA or the results from my MRI THREE months ago – or a live human when I call Kingman, Prescott or Phoenix!!!! :) :) I’m a guitar player/entertainer in Laughlin, NV
I have been trying to contact but web page will not pull up I’m in Gillespie Illinois close to stl Mo please let me know
How does the one-on-one work? Do I have to go somewhere? Does the instructor come to me? Is this all done on-line?
Awaiting moderation? For a question of how it works? Apparently you have no answers, so G4V must not be legitimate. I’m going to expose it as a scam to get veterans to buy into your scheme and get nothing in return. You’ll see it in print!!
I am very interested in your guitar lessons program. I am a 36 year veteran with some limitations, 100% total and permanent. Please contact me at your earliest convenience.
Thanks in advance
Karium
the guitarsforvets.org link is not working
none of the links seem to open, just a spinning wheel. Is it my computer? really would like to find a chapter in W. Mass if there is one.
I am interested in giving guitar lessons. I am a award winning “Tops In Blue” AF veteran who has opened shows for BB King, also helped mentor Joe Bonamassa. My site is http://www.MidniteMike.com, glad to serve and possibly help.
Website is down…
Is there free guitar lessons at the Syracuse VA.
I owned a guitar which I sold. It was worn out.
Guitar is goal i want to do now that my hands are working better again. Will have to keep trying the link. Couldnt get it to work. Hoping a chapter is here. I never learned to actually play and thought i would never be able to and gave my guitar away. but now i have function again and this is real goal to play a song for my wife. Hoping a chapter near me
I’m a retired veteran and would like to take guitar lessons
Can your spouse enter this program or is this only for vets?
I would love to enroll in the guitar class,, but the link doesn’t take me no where as to enroll or give my info.
Tucson, Arizona
That’s so nice
Why are programs like this only available to Post 9/11 veterans? So many VA sanctioned therapy programs have only been made available to this select group, yet many of us who served prior to 9/11 are often left behind. This does a disservice to many of us, and make many of us feel inferior, that our service doesn’t count. I have had other veterans tell me I’m not a ‘real veteran’ because I didn’t deploy.
I tried both address and neather one work for me
I am a Viet Nam (age 74) USAF combat support Vet and am definitely interested in this program. Had ptsd for years and has not bothered me, but am always concerned something may trigger it back into place.
Wow. Im just getting this email…would have loved guitar lessons
For 42 years I have walked around thinking I was normal but Ithat has not been the case.I even laughed at my doctor when he suggested that I should seek help from mental health for depression and anxiety. When you don’t realize your state of mind and actions are clearly disturbed. As I look back over my life I now have begun to see signs that truly display my condition.I am trying to better understand where to go from here.Looking normal on the outside but hurting on the inside.
Site does not work. Keeps timing out or crashing.
https://guitars4vets.org/ – site cannot be reached. Chrome browser says site timeout.
D link does not work
I would love to take some lessons
I am a vet with ptsd and dabble with the guitar I have. Never had lessons to really learn how to play. I have tried to navigate to find a chapter but the page will not open. I live in louisiana can someone tell me whom I can contact to get signed up. Thanks
I would like to participate in guitar s for vets program. I am 20 miles from the Branson V.A.
Tried to connect with the website to find a chapter in AZ, but the website is not responding. Tried many times, it just spools and takes so much time that I get a connection time out notice. Try again later!
Can anyone offer any assistance?
Thanks
Garry
Neither the guitars4vets.org or the link provided work.
I am interested in lessons, can’t get your website to load though, so I don’t know if there is a chapter near me.
I’m interested in learning how to playing guitar, I am retired Air Force Veteran. I could get into the guitars4vets today, maybe it’s down. I live in Jensen Beach FL and last time I checked there was no chapter near me.
Link isn’t working to find local chapter
Im interested in the guitars for vets program. I have tried to go to the site to get info on local events but keep getting no reply to the sites. I am in Hudson FL, and would be interested in learning. Also, how do i get a referral.
This strange, there are Veterans out there needing help and you waste time and money on stuff like this WTF
There is a Brockton chapter, I seen it on their facebook page. There they say guitars4vets.org like the article says. I wouldn’t try the address that is being spammed on here… info@guitarsforvets.org is the e-mail address from their facebook page…
If entry into the program requires a referral from a case or social worker, what if you don’t have a case or social worker but are a vet?
For some reason the link you provide is a dead end for me. I live in Madison Mississippi and have been looking for a guitar4vets now for over a few years. I even tried to get a local music company to contact you.
I have a 3/4 Yamaha electric acoustic. I really want to learn to play. I HAVE to find an outlet. Ya hear me?
Please
Michael

I’ve had 7 hand/wrist surgeries and would love to take advantage of the guitars for vets program as I think it could help not only with my hands, coordination, dexterity and ptsd. I’ve been trying to access the guitars for vets website to apply and it doesn’t open. I know I can get the referral from my local VA Social Worker. Please respond yelp ng me how to start the process.
I’ve tried to get into this program but it isn’t offered where I am. I’d be willing to do online classes but that hasn’t been an option since I looked into it last. If anyone from Indiana has had any luck, I’m in Terre Haute please let me know how I can get involved in this.
I tried to follow the link, but it keeps timing out. I don’t need a guitar, but need the lessons.
I was not able to pull up the web site from the address listed. I sent an email to see if there was any coverage near me.
I am interested but none of the links work.please help
Greetings, I live in Fort Myers Florida and would love to enroll in this program. The locator tool and redirect page is not functioning properly. Please advise. Would hate to miss this opportunity.
I have been trying to get to the website for some time, and I think there may be some issues with it. I am very interested in the program.
This is interesting and I’d love to support it, but the link to the site is broken. Even just typing in guitars4vets.org into a browser just spins without ever loading a page. Any idea what’s up?
I am 65, and a vet, Viet Nam and Dessert Storm era but thankfully no combat, so no PTSD. However I am an advanced level guitar player, teach some and play in a band. I would be happy to help with this program. Who do I contact?
I cannot even get the website for it to open to see if there is a chapter near me.
I could not get the referenced website to open using both Safari and Google Chrome. Also, it is not a secure site.
looking for more information on free guitar lessons
I’m a OIF Vet and I’ve tried to learn to play not enough patience. My uncle past away this February, he loved guitar, I have his left hand acoustic guitar, it’s in very good condition and has a good soft case. I would like to donate it. This being a good cause and free lessons for fellow Vets I would like info to get it to a Vet in need. Left hand acoustic, Oscar Schmidt, by Washburn.
I didn’t know that left handed guitars even existed. I have been wanting to take guitar lessons and I am a lefty. I would love to have a guitar for Lefty’s. This pandemic would be a good time to take lessons with so much free time on my hand; now that I’m retired and a Veteran.
Hi I’m John is this still a offer?
The link doesn’t open to locate a chapter. Not sure how this can workout if we can’t research it. Great idea though.
Talina Taylor, wow! Such an amazing gesture of kindness. Thank you.
I just opened the email and found out about this G4V program. It seems to be a wonderful idea. I am hoping to get signed up for the program. I am a 100% Service Connected Disabled Army veteran. 70% for PTSD. I’m sure that my social worker would refer me to this program. Looking forward to becoming a part of this program.
Ric
Hello. Sorry for your loss. I am a Navy Veteran. ODS Vet. I am also left-handed. I would love the guitar, if it’s still available. If so, how can we do this? Respectfully, Frank LoMonaco.
Hi. Very nice of you to offer I am signing up and am left-handed… My folks bought me a right hand guitar when I was younger and played it upsidedown! Lol
I lost hope and patience and have to remap my brain, but pts and tbi kept me away from any real confidence. I am now living alone in the desert along with my Service Dog Cody and would use some more positive things in my life and getting back to music to help.
Talina,
I’m so sorry for your loss. I’ve had family members that have played various instruments and have always enjoyed watching and listening them play. I myself have played guitar for a few years but have had to give it up due to my left middle finger. It was severed back in 78 and reattached. Well the last 4 years have been one of advanced arthritis to the point I cannot fret my guitar with my left hand any longer. I have entertained trying to learn using a left handed guitar but have balked at spending the money to purchase another guitar. I am a 100% disabled vet and if you have not found a home for your uncle’s guitar, I would be honored to take it and I promise to use it as I did my own. I have a grand son I want to pass my right handed guitar too. With me being able to play left handed I hope someday soon we could play together. Thanks. Sam
I am a left hander and have wanted to learn but no access to left handed guitar or teacher. Tried to self teach with YouTube and a loaned right handed one but doesn’t work. Still searching
Talina
If you don’t find a place to donate I could use a left handed guitar. Tried to learn on a friends normal one and YouTube- doesn’t work and local teachers only teach in right handed ones
My name is Christopher, I would be honored to receive your guitar. I am a veteran who served in the USN.
Wow! a Washburn, not so much rare, as rarely “gifted” please at your convenience, do yourself a favor and have it, the Wash, appraised before you actually commit. Washburn’s, sold as “used” literally start at half a grand. Plus! a real left-handed Wash? Is the body designed as left-handed or are the strings order just inverted? When you face the guitar is the “pickguard” (usually plastic. Kinda liver shaped) on the left or right side of sound hole/resonator opening as you look at it? Sorry for all the innate questions, I’m on 3rd shift, and am completely without work/quotas/goal/orders/or targets to direct my attention to. Military, you are familiar with this “state”. Anyhow will check back for response, since I just diddybopped into here and served myself to your time. Sorry/Thanks! Interesting. G’nite
I am a 90 year old vet, a lefty who learned to play right handed. Recently my meds caused me to suffer a loss of finger/ brain connection ? At any rate I sold my guitar as it was a source of frustration. This G4V program may be a way to get another shot at playing again. Problem is finding a left handed guitar so I can relearn- then your message appeared! What are the chances of me inheriting that guitar?
My husband was U.S.A.F, Korean Conflict. Beautiful guitar player owned a Martin 000-18. Just want to tell you what an awesome, generous thing you’re doing, donating your uncle’s guitar. Hard to let go of, but such a worthwhile cause. Thank you – may they all R.I.P., may their fingers never get tired of making a joyful noise.! Music works when nothing else will…
Enroll by sending email to nearest chapter on http://www.gutarsforvets.org or send email to fl.ftmyers@guitarsfirvets.org for s prompt response
CORRECTION: fl.ftmyers@guitarsforvets.org is the correct email
Do have any idea when the site will be back up? I used the link that was automatically forwarded to me to try and locate the closest chapter to me that offers this program and it prompted me to sign in; but I don’t yet have a login and password and it doesn’t have an option to set up an account…

My son was murdered by his landlord in 2018. He used to play his guitar singing me church songs. I missed it so much. I am interested to sign up for this free guitar class but do not have a guitar nor can afford to buy one but I am a Veteran myself. If you are willing to donate please keep me in mind.
Much appreciated it
God Bless
The link https://guitars4vets.org/about-us/find-a-chapter/ does not resolve. I wish the OP would read these comments and correct the post.
Vet. here always wanted to learn been learning using a friend’s but would love my own.ps I’m a lefty.
You might want to know that the link currently requires a user ID and password to look for a local chapter, so maybe don’t post the link, just the email.
That will probably reduce frustration, and hopefully increase participation
The link prompts me for a logon I’d and password. How do I get pass this? Thanks!

Mark I am a former USMC Bandsman (percussion). I also live in Ft Myers and would love to be involved in this to possibly teach drums for vets as well. I would also like to take this opportunity to learn the basics of guitar. I will be sending an email via the link you provided.
Hello Mark, I have tried to connect to the website on two different browsers today. Both Chrome and Firefox don’t let me connect and give me a warning that this site is a security risk. I think there may be an issue with the site!
This link requires a login … I cannot login to gain contact to be apart of the program
The link to search for the chapter does not work. Before even loading the webpage it is asking for login credentials.
I’m a US Navy vet.
Very inspiring program. Just the kind of involvement I’ve only wished for to grow in my music endeavors, particularly with improving my guitar skills.
The link will not open for me.

Tried going to the link to access the locator. The link to g4v takes you to a page that requires a log in. Even after registering on the site, it doesn’t take your log in info.
I went to the link provided and it ask for a user name and password. I don’t have one nor is there anywhere to create one, any advice?
Thanks Tom

Another useless VA link. You click on http://www.guitarsforvets.org and it asks for your username and password!!! And no way to register for an account. THIS IS WHY I DON’T work for the VA anymore….useless government agency.
[Editor: G4V isn’t a VA program or webpage. The heavy interest crashed G4V’s webpage. They’re aware and working to resolve their issue.]

I would love to to learn how to play a bass guitar but I’m left handed and finding left handed is probably to pricey. I’m interested and would love to be apart of the process
I would also like to learn the Bass guitar. Is there lessons available for Bass guitar??

Hi Friends: I play the guitar and sing for my own pleasure. I’m not an entertainer, but I would enjoy sharing my knowledge and enjoyment with other veterans who find happiness in musical expression. If you’ve never made music with others, I can assure you it’s one life’s greatest highs– I’d describe it as like the powerful sense of well-being one gets after completing a five mile run. I’m in Fort Mill, SC which is in the greater Charlotte, NC area. If interested, I hope G4V will connect us.
I don’t find a way to reply to the original post. Maybe you know.
They give you an acoustic guitar after completing the 10 week course but what’s a player to do for an instrument for the 10 weeks. I don’t think air guitar is going to cut it.
I live in Kentucky is there a program here or is it on line?
Hang in there buddy, I hear you!!
I have done the guitars for vets with no success
My 20 years of service endeavors were of black world and highly topsecret classified locations throughout the globe mostly here in the US. I suffer from sever PTSD with TBI. My days consist of fighting my way for another day and not being added to the 22 a day
Nevermind Ilost tracks of what I’m trying to say.
My apologies for wasting your time.
Just read your comments on the thread… don’t worry about wasting anyone’s time man! If a forum thread is a lifeline then use the hell out of it! You don’t have to tackle anything alone. We may not all have served the same way but we all have served… there’s community available. Keep up the fight James!
Please please never think you are wasting anyone’s time, least of all another vet. We hear you and know you are struggling. Surely someone will be able to get you to the right place. Just keep holding in there, buddy.
Hey james.
Just wanted to say hello, and I can relate to some of what you said.
No time ever waited on a brother or sister!
Vern
I know what you mean. When most all of what you do/did is covered by TS, SCI; there are not many people you can talk to about anything. In order to talk to anyone you must first be “introduced” to the person by someone you know, that is also covered by the same clearance, for the same information, and has need to know. That kind of cuts everyone out that you didn’t already know. On top of that, you are forbidden to talk about programs you are no longer involved with: Need To Know. Black Operations are not the cool, James Bond stuff many on the outside believe they are. They are quite the opposite, and they lead you to feel really all alone when you get out. You can try to get your clearance back (Secret DoD Only) and go to work for a contractor. If that route works for you, the contractor can get you cleared back to a TS and higher (as needed by the contractor and the government). Severe PTSD and TBI does not preclude you from finding work with a contractor. It might not have anything to do with what you used to do, but it can help you find some focus. Keep trying. I have been a terrible guitar player for over 30 years and I still do it: mostly alone, but a guitar can be good company.
I was reading the responses to this post fairly quickly until I came to yours. Then I stopped!! You, my brother have just made me cry. I want you to know that YOU, Yes YOU, are loved. I don’t care who you are, what color you are, or what you have done!! Hod sent His own Only Begotten Son to atone for the sins of all of us! We must also forgive and that forgiveness begins with ourselves. Join the program if that’s what you want. Music WILL strike a happy chord in your heart and in your soul. I have found music on UTUBE, one source, that makes me feel. I had buried my feeling so long it scared me to death. Now I weep openly and sometimes I wish I could turn it off. But it makes me happy and that is something it sounds like you could use a BIG dose of!!! WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFE .,…and make some MUSIC!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️
I am interested in the guitar lesson program! Just read about it on the va news on my phone! Still can’t figure out how to enroll! I live in Taunton ma. Do I really need to have some sort of depression problem to enroll? I have been dabbling with the guitar for sometime now! Was thinking about improving from this program. I am not suffering from any type of ,depression, just want to learn how to play better!

I get an Unauthorized message when I go to https://guitars4vets.org/ so how do I get into the site?
There is a Brockton chapter, I seen it on their facebook page. There they say guitars4vets.org like the article says. I wouldn’t try the address that is being spammed on here… info@guitarsforvets.org is the e-mail address from their facebook page…
I am interested in your guitar lessons. Have head injury so lose space sometimes but on warm day good and clear
I am also interested in the lessons. What are the qualifications?
