Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Army Veteran Marion E. Baker. Marion served during World War II from 1945 to 1946.
In an interview with Veterans History Project, Marion discussed his career with the Army. He was drafted in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1945. Marion completed basic training at Camp Livingston, Louisiana before being deployed with the first wave of occupation troops in Japan during World War II.
Marion received the American Campaign Medal, Army Good Conduct, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal and Army Occupation Medal for his service. Upon leaving the Army in 1946, he continued to serve with Army Guard until April 1957 and then with the Air Guard until March 1987. Marion’s Air Guard unit successfully completed one tour in Germany during the Berlin Crisis in 1961.
Marion passed away in his home in Henderson, Kentucky in January 2009.
We honor his service.
