February is African American History Month. Today’s Veteran served as an Army Reservist.
After Robert Sturns earned his bachelor of arts in radio and TV from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas, he joined the Army as a Reservist.
Between 1990 and 2001, Sturns served as a signal officer. His assignments included serving as a commander with C Battery, 1-355th Field Artillery Regiment, as well as the commandant of the drill sergeant academy S-4 while with the 1-355th Field Artillery Regiment.
In addition to Sturns’ part-time service as an Army Reservist, he worked full-time in various management positions in the real estate industry. He also attended Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas and earned his master of business administration degree in 1997.
Sturns left the Army Reserve in 2001 at the rank of captain. Shortly beforehand, in 2000, Sturns transitioned to the public sector to serve the Fort Worth community in a variety of roles. According to an interview with Texas Christian University’s alumni magazine, Sturns wanted to help effect change in his city.
Sturns currently serves as the Economic Development Director for the city of Fort Worth. In his free time, he enjoys competing in triathlons and obstacle course races.
Thank you for your service!
