Amazon’s Delivery Service Partner program empowers entrepreneurs to build their own small businesses delivering Amazon packages in their local communities. Delivery Service Partners (DSPs) and their drivers are an integral part of what Amazon refers to as the last mile – transporting packages from their delivery stations to their customer’s front door.
DSPs generally grow to have between 40-100 employees and a fleet of delivery vehicles (which Amazon assists with leasing), ensuring packages get delivered safely and on-time. Since launching the program in 2018, Amazon has empowered more than 800 small business owners across the country who have provided jobs for more than 75,000 drivers.
Like many small businesses, operating a DSP business is challenging. In fact, because of these challenges, Amazon is constantly looking for leaders–such as Veterans–because of their drive, leadership skills, hustle, and mission-first attitude. About 1/3 of Amazon’s DSPs are Veterans.
“In the military it is all about the team effort, and it is mission orientated. You’ll do well as a leader as a commander if you are able to bring out the best in people or play to people’s strengths,” said Will Boyd, U.S. Army Veteran and owner of Alpha Zulu Logistics, an Amazon Delivery Service Partner. “Amazon has got logistics figured out – what you can bring to the table is really the people aspect, interacting with people, hiring the people, training them, engaging with them, and bringing them along as safe and effective drivers.”

DSPs also have access to Amazon technology and resources, which includes hands-on training, on-demand support, and access to branded vans, uniforms, insurance and more. Amazon also provides DSPs with the package volume they need to grow their business while building a great team and managing the operations.

I would be be happy to talk to anyone about this program, the application process and my experience. I will try to respond to the comments here as well. I run a page on FB call Amazon DSP Hopefuls, where I provide as much help and information as possible. Yes, I’m a veteran and yes was a DSP.
Your information is extremely helpful. I’m wondering are you a participant with the Amazon program now, or were you? You are very well informed. Do you advocate doing this? Just curious because I would respect and appreciate your opinion. Thanks you for the details and thank you for your bravery and service to our country. You’re a Patriot whom I well respect!
Thanks for your services. Do you live close to a Amazon reload or service center? If not your a perfect candidate for what Amazon is looking for. Or to be honest a lot of companies are looking for someone reliable to transport their goods from point A to point B. Regardless of what some of these comments say. If you own a van that you can take the seats out and look up what insurance and bond requirements for the state you
Live in, and while you’re checking that check out what it cost when you go out your state . If you want and can afford to do all those cost, well then you want to write up a business plan or have Professinal do it for you. Form your LLC. Get a cheap website. And start knocking on doors asking any company, hospitals, car dealerships, marinas where ever you live Amazon. And ask if they’re taken bids on contracts. Oh and the government contracts and Amazon or Fed Ex so on pay the most . You can do all that yourself and if you enjoy. You then can look into hiring people and starting your own fleet. And depending on how ambitious you are the sky is not the limit, because we’ve really have been to the moon. You can get paid grants from the VA , local state and federal agencies, in the period you first start out for just yourself be all over the place with your deliveries. And in that time period find yourself a niche, and you don’t have to worry about the economy, there.will always be a need for local and national logistics. Amazon could have their own drivers and do. But contracting other companies to drive for them sets the market for hourly rate employees they do have and also they get write offs and a number other reasons they need contractors. Hope you find this useful. Anyone who uses this formula. Can be as successful as they ever dreamed. There’s a comment on here that says something about Amazon vehicle’s and uniforms. They’re where telling you basiclly that if you chose to build your fleet of vans or whatever you could get their fleet price and same for a uniforms . They have been purchasing over 75,000 vans a year for the last ever so many years. If you owned a automobile company say Chevy and you said you are going to be buying a lot of vans. And there fleet operator asked you for a number and you said at least five, do you think you would get the same price as Amazon who has already committed 75,000 a year for the next five years? They’re saying they’ll help get the same deal last they get. Or if you have a contract through them but don’t qualify as a company or individual to get the 5 vans. They’re saying you can lease them from Amazon . Which has the credit and credibility to help you get started. And 1 out of 3 small business owners that do have contracts with them are us Veterans. So just like anything else, their are those who believes it’s somebody trying to get over on somebody. Or that think there’s a catch, and there is. It’s an honor to honor someone or group that are the most deserving to be honored . That we live in an ERA that our Veterans are treated with respect and dignity, not because we think we deserve it, because the freedoms that are giving to some in the best damn Country in the World to live in “The UNITED STATES OF AMERICA “ that the rest of our country as a whole knows the price and sacrifice that some or most have paid to get the title as VETERAN. And because most business that are big or has had success was in or knew of a time when we saw our veterans get off of a plane in this same country and those same freedoms they were fighting for and got called names and spat on for giving all they had for us, a lot of us veterans wouldn’t have been born if our fathers hadn’t gave their all
And now CEO’s like Amazon and most companies that have a vision knows any candidate that has the leadership ability and discipline to run their company or run their own companies than past members U.S.ARMED FORCES. So those that want information on how to go about getting in a position to be successful. This is a ruff draft for you. Get on the internet and google how to become successful in being or owning a logistics carrier business. God Bless you all for your life. And it’s now time to live your best life. We deserve it.

You go to the DSP link and apply online. The link is in the article. Also it is a very competitive and lengthy process.
Sounds like one of these lease purchase deals, like the ones offered by truckin companies. The leasee ends up paying twice what a regular payment would be on a truck. Also responsible to pay for fuel, maintenance road taxes and other things. So, basically, a person is paying for the upkeep and tires, oil changes. They company isn’t out anything.I’d be leary…
With my previous comment I live in South Carolina but it doesn’t show that there is any positions around here at all
Please get in touch with me about this I am very interested
I am a veteran and highly interested in this opportunity and would like more information as I have been doing independent contractor work recently.
But the link provided to register doesn’t work I have tried multiple times on all possible devices available to me.
Please help with more info on registering as the link is not working for me.
Yes Vets — Do your homework with any type of Delivery/Uber-type business. Especially if you’re taking out loans to start-up for other people or in this case a corporate giant.
In 2007 I contracted with a medical transport company. That was before Uber/Lyft/ –
I picked up injured patients and drove them to their Dr. appts. I also delivered prescriptions and medicines
to hospitals.
I barely broke even with expenses for gas, car maintenance, tolls, time spent waiting for patients/meds….
It was a constant fight to get my hours and mileage paid fully and accurately….I quite after 4 months and I doubt
much has changed.
On my taxes I filed it as a loss –
Read the caption; Amazon wants ‘hustle’….that says a lot. Because they in turn like to ‘hustle’ other people.
And read Buzzfeed.news about Amazon’s the cost of next day delivery. That’s what you’re looking at in a nutshell.
This is not to be a driver, this is a partnership with amazon to own a franchise.
Ask yourself these questions.
Do you think that if a company like amazon is not able to hire delivery drivers, what make you think a veteran will?
I’m in the logistics and transportation industry and let me tell you . Is not doable. I read and went above and beyond to find out the whole Amazon helps veterans. Bla bla bla.
Amazon is looking for people to buy their branded vehicles and uniforms and so on. Let’s say what a franchise does.
Be your own Boss does not mean be as sucker for companies like amazon.
Bill you are absolutely correct. The DSP Program is not for individuals looking for “a job”. This program is for those who are interested in starting a small business. An opportunity to be an entrepreneur.
This so-called program by Amazon is a fraud. Many veterans have looked into it and found it to be completely impossible to actually be approved by Amazon.
This is not a new program. It has been in existence for more than two years. It is just at the VA is now hearing about it for the first time?
Getting a real estate license would be a much better way to go.
I am very interested
I feel sorry for you veterans. This is not the website to be asking for help or assistance at. Read the article. If your looking for a job working at the VA, go to http://www.usajobs.gov. If your looking to manage VA loans, go find a job at a bank.
If I were you. I wouldn’t be sorry for a veteran.
Cause veterans knows better. I am one.
A “job” does not require you to spend at least 10k upfront. This is not a “job!”
I’m a veteran & would like to know more information.Plz send
I would like more information on this
Great. But can you do a follow-up article on how to find DSP’s in your area that you can apply to? I’m pretty sure they’re not hiring under Amazon.
I want to know more about this opportunity.
Hello,
I was Military Police in the Army from 1990-1998 before I was medically discharged due to an injury.
I then went on to work for the Federal Prison System & retired 7/2018 after 20 years.
I am very interested in the idea of driving for AMAZON as an independent Contractor.
If you can give me additional information that would be Much Appreciated !!
Thank You
William Anderson
I’m a veteran with a cosmetologist license and I thought it would be a good idea to open a beauty shop in the VA hospital, catering to hospital bound patient’s and lo income veterans
I’m a veteran with a cosmetologist license and was thinking it would be a good business to open a beauty shop in the VA hospital
WOW, nobody is responding to your questions!
Please look into how Amazon treats their contracting companies before you think about doing business with them. They have a long history of screwing contractors.
Retired Mortgage Loan Officer with a regional bank 20 years experience. Looking for Part time in VA loan arena.
I wouldn’t do it if I were you. There’s a reason why Amazon is doing this and it has nothing to do with helping veterans. This is because the cost of working with Amazon is so astronomical that they are struggling to keep independent delivery companies from wanting to work with them. You’d make more “profit” flipping burgers especially with a single delivery van.
Exactly
Yes my name is Ronnie Williams I have for business I started the beginning of this year and I have an LLC I’m a disabled army veteran I was wondering do you help with starter grants or I need help to start in get it gone thank you
Apply at:
amazon.com/DSP-VA
It took me less than an hour to sign up for this program.
I’ve been on disability. I had cancer. I was wanting to go back to work. Is there anyway I could start a delivery business through Amazon would I be eligible?
Please let me know more about this opportunity
I am a Gulf War Veteran. I am a female Phlebotomist with over 20 years experience. Looking to get hired in Atlanta VA Heaith care system. Please help .
I also have letters of recommendations.
Thank You,
Tyann Rice
You have to go through usajobs.gov to get hired at the VA.
Tyann,
You must create an account on usajobs.gov. You need to create a resume and attach pdf files of you college transcripts and state license. Then search the site for vacancies at the Atlanta VAMC.
You are in my prayers! I’d suggest going to personnel at the VA hospital in Atlanta. If you were in Columbia SC, where I go I would be surprised if they didn’t move you right on into a good paying job helping old farts like me! I’d bet Atlanta will be just as eager. Cast out fear for fear is a liar!
Atlanta VA hospital is ok. Do not work at the Augusta Ga VA hospital. They have major management problems.
