Would you like to support the resettlement of our Afghan allies and other vulnerable Afghan national refugees? Here is how you can help with the Afghanistan response.
Volunteer your service with community organizations that help the cause
Together we can support communities and build recovery systems to help the thousands of refugees that arrive to the United States from Afghanistan. Veterans are key to this support system and know how to mobilize efforts in the community. Helping Afghan children re-unite with their family members is a critical mission in our communities, and Veterans are equipped to support these activities.
Many of our Veterans and Veteran Service Organizations are already helping with these efforts, and VA is responding with a list of resources to assist. This will provide Veterans a means to support their communities, reduce feelings of helplessness, and improve their mental health by serving as a bridge to the community with volunteer service.
Mobilizing a response
The U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security are seeking to mobilize private sector response to support at-risk and vulnerable individuals from Afghanistan who have arrived in the United States. As part of this effort, VA is reaching out to community and partner organizations to support the mobilization response and engage with Veterans that know how to help.

- Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service. By signing up to volunteer through LIRS, Veterans will gain access to the national LIRS network of partners and affiliate offices for opportunities in their local communities. Volunteer opportunities vary from short to long-term commitments, including airport pick-ups, apartment set-ups, ongoing transportation support, tutoring and assistance in English classes, and community connections. Interested volunteers can find more information and can sign up here: https://lirsconnect.org/get_involved/action_center/siv.
- Team Rubicon is a Veteran-led disaster non-profit that serves communities impacted by natural disasters and humanitarian crises. Afghan families arrive in the U.S. with little more than the clothing on their backs, so we are supporting the resettlement effort at all phases of the process, including logistics support and site management; collection and distribution of donated goods; assisting in the set-up of housing units and providing interpreters. Your skills are needed. Please register at https://teamrubiconusa.org/serve if you want to make a difference. TMF Veterans will provide mentorship through our youth development program, lifting up Afghan children as they resettle in the U.S. Join the Mission at travismanion.org.
- The American Red Cross is supporting several operations right now. This support includes responding to wildfires in the West, following Hurricane Ida and other storms, and providing comfort to Afghan evacuees at several U.S. military bases. Red Cross volunteers help meet the immediate basic needs of those impacted by these events. Turn your compassion into action by volunteering to join us as a shelter volunteer. Click on the Urgent Needs Landing Page to apply for a shelter volunteer position or to find other volunteer opportunities.
- Combined Arms has supported 38 SIV families, totaling 163 individuals since 2019, and are preparing to support the 1000+ Afghans expected to arrive in Houston over the coming weeks and months. The federal government provides funding to several resettlement organizations to aid in SIVs transition to their new communities. After six months, the funding ends, however our SIVs still need support. Combined Arms works to fill in the gaps with the existing resettlement programs and processes, providing SIVs and their families with financial support, essential supplies, resource navigation help, and connection to community. You can volunteer at combinedarms.us to get involved in helping these families resettle in the Houston, Texas, area. There are plenty of opportunities to participate in airport welcomes, mentorship, resource navigation or transportation support.

How about all of you who are willing to help these refugees help a homeless veteran or homeless American family first, and then help refugees.
I fully agree with you. I was basically homeless for 6 years moving place to place. I finally was able to get a place by buying a “as is” place. i was able to get help from county this year to get a septic put in but had to borrow a lot to pay for the rest. I am unable to earn a living. Yet I do not meet the requirements for SSDI. So I live off my VA disability of 30% hoping the house will make it through the next storm or if it will make it through winter. I do not have much but i still try and help other vets if i can.
I am a veteran and would HAPPILY sponsor a refugee family from Afghanistan in my home. It is the LEAST we can do for these people who risked their lives to help us in what turned out to be a useless conflict that wasted American lives and squandered a huge portion of our national wealth.
Please let me know how and where I can assist!
The site tells you how and where you can assist. Yet you ask anyway?
Your post tells me you are committing stolen valor. A liar.
If you were a veteran AND you wanted to sponsor you could just do that.
But you instead make noise.
Liar. Stolen Valor. Probably not American. Definitely not a Patriot.
Are you kidding me!? You leave Americans and real Allies stranded in Afghanistan, and now you ask for help with Afghans in this country. Biden and his administration are a disgrace. And the VA is a disgrace for pushing this agenda.
The US Department of State? The same outfit that has and is hindering Americans from escaping Afghanistan? That Department of State? What the DOS needs is a size 12 combat boot planted firmly on its collective backside.
My husband just lost 30% his compensation. They said he got better. He still takes 6 medicines and can’t do many of the things he use to. We had to fight for even this. The system is so broken. Who is ever going to fight for our vets. After reading this our us vets have been forsaken. God help us.
[Editor: It is common that all conditions not marked “total & permanent” will/can receive an RFE, or Routine Future Exam. This is a taxpayer protection. You must reply to a VA “proposal to reduce” and can show/submit new/material evidence that the current rating is still warranted. If you fail to respond to a proposal to reduce and VA then reduces, you can submit a new “claim for an increase” with evidence showing that the condition has worsened or maintained, not gotten better.]

The “golden letter agency” automatically reviews awards in a 90 day window and a large majority of claims are manslaughtered by civilians with charts and quotas. ALL AWARDS ARE AUDITeD WITHIN 90 days.
From there the “golden letter” employees try their best to shave or cancel outgoing money in efforts to keep the “golden letter agency” on financial diet.
This conduct nets them bonuses and reviews that allow them to pilot into high pay grades.
These same non helpful payroll robots care about their promotions more than alotting accurate disability claims. The bad part of this conversation is that this is a 100% common situation in our awesome awesome “brochure distribution agency”.
I’m in
Why the Hell would any Veteran sign up for this? Quite frankly its a SLAP in the face for this Administration to have perpetrated a massacre on our own brothers and sisters in Afghanistan! Now you want help. We don’t think so!!
I’ll purchase a ticket to send one back from where the came from.
Being disrespectful make you look small .
opinions are like A holes every body has one if you don’t like mine I don’t care we gave 20 years to help them, and when we left they fell to a army of 157,000 when the city of Kabul had a population of 6 million. They should have stayed and fought for there country, that is how our for fathers got us here. 2400 plus American dead for nothing 20 Thousand plus disabled that don’t include the ones that come back with mental issues I’m one, I asked to speak to a physiatrist back on August the 18, 2021 I got an appointment for September the 30, 2021 thank you so much glad I’m not to broken.
I have always supported our troops and welcome them home whenever I meet them.Being a Vietnam vet l myself and my other brothers and sisters know first hand what it was like for us to come home.It sucked! So I am not going to let that happen to them. The people that collaborated for our troops are deserving of our help!Get these people and their families the hell out of there! They put their lives on the line knowing what could happen to them so cut the crap and bring them here!If they can do what they did for us,then I believe they would make good American citizens. An American patriot
I would like to get my full benefits that I have been fighting the VA for since 2000 and my 100% for being in Afghanistan and Iraq. I don’t want to support them anymore, can I get support VA? This is a damn slap in the face for us veterans how dare you! VA you should have gave extra money due to the pandemic to all the veterans to help with extra cost with children being out of school and unemployed vets. You never seem to want to help us do anything but you want to break your neck to help these damn ungrateful Afghan’s. You need to take this off website down!
Wow VA! How can you incorporate asking; “how to contribute to possible Afgan sleeper cells” AND the “911 Tribute Rally point” All in the same email blast? What a fkn oxy moron.
Thank you Carol
I find the bile spewing from many of my fellow Veterans in this thread to be heartbreaking, narrow-minded, un-Christian and downright ignorant.
Working as a professional Veterans Service Officer at the local level for almost 15 years–I can tell you that there have NEVER been as many avenues to housing and other assistance (through the VA and other agencies) for “homeless” Veterans as there are right now. In my experience–some Veterans simply CHOOSE homelessness as an alternative to following rules and making choices to better their lives. More often than not there are mental health and AODA issues that interfere with a persons ability accept help to stabilize their life–and for that reason–we must not give up on even one Veteran. I’ve assisted HUNDREDS of Veterans with PTSD claims — and I can say with certainty that this is the case. Often–the trauma that leads to destabilization starts way before a person ever went into the military–and that early trauma makes them more vulnerable to exacerbation when witnessing and experiencing the harsh realities of war. One might argue that hearts are hardened from the time of basic training as we are encouraged to see ‘the enemy’ as less than human–so it is not surprising to see a lack of empathy for fellow humans in this forum. Anti-immigrant rhetoric wrapped in “patriotism” is nothing new. During and after World-War I & II — the only difference for German immigrants was that there were so many of us already here that we could blend in easier!
I implore my fellow Veterans to open your heart–educate yourself–roll up your sleeves–and get to work to make the world a better place for everyone. And–if you are bitter because you–or someone you know is not getting the help they need from the VA–look up your local County Veterans Service Officer on http://www.NACVSO.org to help connect the dots.
Peace.
We will all pray for you Carol. I served there I became disabled in Afghanistan. The people were victimized. These are peaceful people who live in fear. They are beautiful! They would welcome you into their home if you were in danger knowing they will pay for it if caught by the Taliban. Sleeper cell? Please read a book since you nothing nothing about the afghan people. That is probably because you have never walked on Afghanistan ground.
Good day ma’am
Thank you Yvonne. I agree with you so much. I am a Lifer, Retired Veteran after 25 years of dedicated patriotic service, and proud of our military! My service, as a physician, was always to help service members, their families and our veterans to maximize their health care without charging them anything. No overtime pay, no hardship pay, but, service and teamwork with Honor and Integrity. I was looking for a way to serve and help the Afghan children and women that are arriving thanks to the biggest military airlift in history. I am part of the Wounded Warrior program- both as a provider and as a recipient. I am saddened by the many amputees and maimed by IED’s, the families of those who lost their lives, and those that continue to battle with mental and emotional problems. As a warrior, I am proud of all our troops accomplished, and do NOT accept the idea that “it was for nothing”. As a patriot, I will continue to serve with Integrity, Honor, Courage and Commitment and make my legacy leave the world a better place.
The VA always says that they have “the right thing” to help. It becomes a different story if you actually try to get it. Five years now and I am still undiagnosed and still being jerked around. The VA reminds me of a cab driver that always tries to take the longest route. I don’t have the time but more importantly I no longer have the patience. This entire horrible experience has convinced me of one thing. This country doesn’t give a crap about veterans or the contract that they signed. Well, guess what. We no longer care about you either. I wouldn’t lift a finger to defend any American at this point. Bunch of worthless tools!
It’s great to be able and help those people who helped out servicemen when they needed it most. It’s hard to read some of these responses and not realize just how much bitter hatred that some Americans and even more unfortunately other veterans have towards anyone not exactly like themselves. Many of these Afghans are heroes to many of our veterans who served in Afghanistan; and many of our Afghan veterans helped sponsor missions to save the brave Afghans who risked their lives to help our veteran and our country. I cannot help but wonder what horrible types of racism these peoples children will face when entering school.
Almost all of these bitter critics are also claim to be Christians.
Mathew 25: 31-10
31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
I am not a Christian. I am a Veteran, I believe that there are more afghan refugees than there are afghan refugees that actually helped Americans. I believe that there was not enough time to vet all those that are going to arrive and that there will be enemies among them. I believe it is the American Governments job to keep America, which is Americans, safe from all enemies and they are failing. They are failing because far to many people want to believe that America has the resources to take everybody in. America is BROKE,INDEBT, BANKRUPT. We have Veterans killing themselves, daily, at an alarming rate, not because of PTSD but because of HOPELESSNESS. They can not find employment that will support them. Our education system is geared toward earning unnecessary diplomas in saturated areas instead of teaching trades that pay well and are necessary long term careers. There are far to many bible toters calling out all the lies written in a book as unproven as the lord of the rings. The excuse for god not ending all this strife is god gave man free will. Free will to avoid the idea that either god is fictional, god left or god is a lie. Now someone will reply with some passage from the bible. I say show me anywhere in history when there is proof that gods actual hand made something happen, anything happen. You cannot, there is no absolute truth. The only absolute truth is religion has killed more people, men, women, children than all modern wars combined. All in the name if god.
I will do my part… It would be extremely un-American to not offer a helping hand for those in need! America helped the mujahideen (an Islamic extremist group) from the Cold War (a group that later becomes Al-Qaeda and Taliban). We knew how out of date and problematic their ideologies were and yet our government supported them with training and resources because they were fighting communism. I would much rather prefer it if America would stop sending our brothers and sisters off to fight resource wars to make other people rich at the cost of their lives and the lives of civilians.
“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!” -The New Colossus – Statue Of Liberty National Monument
The VA is difficult to work with but they do take care of Veterans who also take the steps necessary to help themselves. They have helped me.
Unfortunately, most of these comments obscure the fact that we tucked our tails and ran from Afghanistan. We gave up, and to further obscure this fact we hide our own cowardice and lack of will behind some kind of false respect and fake sympathy for our soldiers who sacrificed over there.
I don’t see our mission over there was anything but keeping the animals at bay!
We gave that mission up, and for what, so we can argue about whether we need to do something to help the people we know deep down in our hearts we abandoned for no good reason!
Thank god Biden won’t even last 4 years.
And just so we are clear, I don’t stand behind Trump’s desire to withdraw from Afghanistan, which was equally ill-motivated.
And its own way, reflected a lack of will hidden behind false respect and fake sympathy for our troops.
It took 40+ years for me to finally go to the VA. My experience in the military after my injury was enough to cause distrust. Now I think the VA great, though some individuals are a bit controlling and others distant and unfriendly. We should have left Afghanistan the day after Osam Bin Laden was killed, the mission was a success. We are not communists we do not force democracy on other peopkes, we tried in afghanistan. It is time when we are challenged to go in, kick ass and get out. No rebuilding, No aid. Do Not Tread On Us. If we must go to war, make it a war that makes all others step back and think again.
Mr. Nobile is correct, we spent too many lives and too much money over 20 years trying to help these people. We don’t owe them a thing. Send them back to Afghanistan, or to some other country willing to support them.
Spend out money on US veterans.
Just what America really needs at this moment 1000’s of non-vetted potential covid 19 carriers being brought into the country. We’ve obviously decided to ignore our southern border crisis where this administration is allowing 1000’s of non-vetted potential covid 19 carriers into the country from who knows where, As well as the ongoing racial unrest nationwide spurring many major (democratic run) cities across to defund and emasculate our civilian law enforcement, not to mention the 1000’s of homeless veterans nationwide. All of these and many more endanger the American people and our infrastructure as a whole.
American Government- Of the People, By the People, For the People? Not so much any more. About the only one that applies is “by the People” because we continue t hold elections. Of the People should be replaced with “Of the Politicians” and For the People should be replaced with “For the Politicians.”
That’s quite a lot of misplaced worry over a few thousand people who undergo medical screenings and will very likely get vaccinated if offered or required of them. Meanwhile, we have something like 100 million US citizens refusing to do take even basic steps like getting vaccinated, wearing a mask when it makes sense, avoiding large crowds… and filling up our hospitals past the breaking point. You’ve unfortunately bought into xenophobic pandering.
Let’s first understand the main reason US occupied Afghanistan: It was to get rid of Al Qida/Talibaan/ISIS so we don’t see another 911 (for our own interest). But then who do you think created these monsters? How they got all these ammunitions? Why did US left all the ammunitions to Talibaan before leaving? Open your eyes people, US is behind all of this not the Afghan people! There were many reasons in the interest of US to occupy Afghanistan (stealing minerals and oil) And then they handed the country to Talibaan on a silver plate and destroyed many Afghan lives for years to come. To cover the shameful failure, they grabbed whoever they could and brought them here. This too was planned. Why bring all those people without vetting, without visas. And after creating such disaster with many lives lost, why they stopped taking people out? It was to mask the shame on their face and also to create disaster in airport that is why!! The plains were there, they had every opportunity to take American s and many others out but they did not!!! This was all preplanned. US supports Pakistan who in return supported Talibaan for 20 years. Talibaan/Al Qida/ISIS =US….. US is to blame for creating these monsters, so don’t write here about not helping the innocent refugees who’s lives got ruined by us in the first place! We brought them here to cover our failure so its our responsibility now to take care of them! Help if you can or shushhhhhhh!
Joe Biden deserves the negative comments, he fcked up. He sht on every Veteran who served. The fact that so many are willing to stand up is not a sign of strength but an indication of weakness! And how willing we are to obscure that with our supposed generosity and our false respect and fake sympathy for our troops.
I came for the comments and they did not disappoint. I feel most people in here complaining about helping and providing aid to others are the same people that are against the FDA approved vaccine for COVID and anti-mask. It is all about them and no one else. Most of the people in these comments won’t even be impacted by this or see a refugee but cry louder.
I am curious that out of the number of people complaining about helping the homeless vets do you do anything to make a difference or actually help them? Armchair victim advocates? Probably.
To those trying to make it political. Where was your outcry when the previous president abandoned the Kurds? Why did so many of you applaud the previous president when he negotiated with the Taliban for the U.S. to withdraw our troops. Not the Afghanistan government, but the Taliban.
So many people in these comments are hypocrites. You scream about a group being ignored or forgotten but do nothing to help. You blame the results that are unfolding without even acknowledging this came about based on what someone else put in place.
American is no longer the greatest country and these comments clearly show why.
You blaming Trump for this?
Does Biden own the decisions he makes?
Yes. He owns the decisions he makes and he decided to honor a “deal” made on behalf of the U.S. by the former president. If the U.S. doesn’t honor its agreements, we will have no credibility on the global front.
Yes, Biden did screw the process of removing our troops. However, Trump negotiated with the withdraw of our troops with the Taliban. The president of Afghanistan deciding to flee was unexpected and created an even worse situation. You can’t point your finger at just 1 person and blame them. This was a failure of multiple leaders. No one wants to talk about that or hold all the leaders accountable for their part. They just want to blame the other person.
Until Americans start holding everyone involved accountable politicians will just keep riding the fence and playing the blame game to stay in office. That way they can do the bare minimum and pretend they are helping Americans.
If you wanna get technical you gotta go further back than those two clowns. American govt knew the war wasn’t winnable even before we went over there after 9/11, Trump definitely started negotiations with taliban to safely get troops out. Him bypassing the Afghan government and going directly to the taliban showed who was the bigger power in the country even back in 2020.
If you want to blame someone you would have to go back to Regan and the Soviet Afghan war. Regan put us over there in the first place. The mujahideen (an Islamic extremist group) was supported by the US govt. The CIA trained and gave these fighters resources to fight the Soviet Union. At the end of the Soviet Afghan war the mujahideen fought among themselves and eventually became al-qaeda and the taliban. (even at the end of Rambo III there’s a tribute that said “This film is dedicated to the brave Mujahideen fighters of Afghanistan.”)
I don’t expect my fellow vets to do any type of reading, but it’s all there in the history books. We had no reason going over there in the 80’s we had no reason creating enemies… The biggest winners from the war in Afghanistan are defense contractors.
Simply put, in my humble opinion, the VA should NOT be involved with assisting in relocating refugees. Whether from Cuba, Afghanistan, or any other country, refugee relocation and assistance is not the duty of the VA. The duty of the VA is to serve the Veteran. The responsibility for relocation assistance needs to be put back where it belongs.
At this stage of our Afghanistan “withdrawal” disaster, the Department of State had at first refused to act, then begged for assistance from the general public in identifying individuals to be withdrawn, then lied to all of us as the process unfolded. They continue to be caught in lie after lie about what is truly going on, botching the effort time after time. Rank amateurs playing at being adults.
The United States of America has always stood for basic Christian values, carrying freedom and opportunity to all corners of the globe. In reality we are a nation of immigrants. My ancestors fought in the Revolutionary War to create this country. So while this country has now committed itself to evacuate and resettle many (unvetted) Afghanistan refugees, the work to do that is NOT the responsibility of the VA.
Did we read the same article or are you upset they published the article? At no point is the VA doing anything more than publishing an article offering readers a way to help and become involved if they can and choose to help. The military is sworn to protect America from foreign and domestic enemies. Likewise a lot of military and veterans want to help people both foreign and domestic. I see no issue with the VA publishing an article offering those of us who want to find ways to help those in need.
Afghan allies and other vulnerable Afghan national refugees? Is the VA serious about this? Who the hell vetted these people? No one? So, potentially, the VA is asking the Veteran community to help fund and resettle members of the Taliban and ISIS here on United States soil? Shameful.
What moron thought this was a good idea?
I completely agree. Our VA system has been a mess for decades. Who thought this was a good idea? The VA should focus on finding homes for the 67,000 veterans who are living in their cars, in tents, under bridges and on the streets and bring the Americans that the Biden administration left behind first.
I thought the same thing! I’m really shocked they would ask this of Veterans! How about taking care of Americans first? Bunch of IDIOTS!
Exactly, well said.
What about the American Veterans that are not taken care of?
Send these people back and take care of our own
These comments are heartless and disappointing.
Leaving Afghanistan to a bunch of fcking animals with no regard for the consequences is heartless and disappointing!
I agree. So disheartening.
NOT A CHANCE in heII. These heathens won’t stand up and defend their own coutry I DO NOT WANT ANY OF MY TAX DOLLARS spent on these useless cowards
America is great. Shows how myopic you are.
Send them back where they came from.
If it were you and your family having to flee the U.S., because Donald Trump got elected again, you would have a different attitude about this! It is the humane thing to do, and yes we have a homeless issue, but those who need help need to help themselves as well; ask for help, do their part by getting a job and showing up on time, etc.
Well that’s like saying they need to help themselves or stay in Afghanistan!
Trump would make America great again. Biden has burdened us all with his mistakes. We are now in shambles because of these idiotic moves. We need to stay out of others business and build our own
Jim, It amazes me how confident ignorant people like you are. I really do not know how to comment on what you wrote except to let you know how stupid you are.
I agree with you ONLY if they would have helped their country first! We are soldier when country called us for duty. We do not question whether is ethic or not of our commanders. As a combat veteran in Afghan N Iraq, I seen shts there in Iraq n Afghan soldier sleeping on their damn check point while we US soldiers past by… guess what we got hit by a damn EFP. Since we love to take care of people over there The foreign say let the US do the caring. They have to stand up and give every once of their blood n try fight for their flag really means. Cuz that is why our uniform right arm is always patched The US flag. We shown them our sacrifice (White), our blood (Red), and bravery (Blue), THAT is what our flag color stand up for! There are meaning that worth of our fight that give them a chance of democracy!
“ask for help, do their part by getting a job and showing up on time, etc.” Wonderful platitudes. I’m suspecting that you’ve never been on the “short end of the stick – let alone homeless. I suggest that you go out job hunting in your best street clothes and when a potential employer asks, tell him that you need the job so that you can get a place to live and afford the basic necessities of life. BTW, NONE of the whiners that promised to flee the USA if Trump was elected Left. As do all self-important liberals, they LIED to us.
You say that but we gave them 20 years for them to help themselves, and the majority refuse.
Has everyone forgot how many times the people we trained there turned on our people and murdered them. Have ;you already forgot they threw down the weapons we gave them to fight with and ran. Have you forgot they Muslims hate our culture as Christians and want to kill us. I say leave them and let them fight as they have for thousands of years. not our problem.
How did American become synonymous with Christianity? Based on the comments here it seems more synonymous with hate!
why don’t we do this for all our homeless veterans in the USA. My parents worked there butts off to get a VISA. They didn’t get a feee pass we are giving all this people. Here is a suggestion on how we should help send them all back to there country.
I would like for the VA to take care the veterans with service connected cancer and then worry about the Afghanistans.
No! Can’t even take care of our own veterans!
What about the Americans stranded and left isolated in Afghanistan, currently?
I think it’s ridiculous that the American people had no say in allowing these refugees come to this country. We have a homeless crisis as well as thousands of homeless veterans. Why is there no extra funding for homes and care for these veterans. Why no free assistance for them. Absolutely disgusting and disgraceful.
We can help America by getting rid of Dictator Joe and Cackling Kamala..!! Elections have consequences and THIS ADMINISTRATION LEFT AMERICANS AND ALIES BEHIND IN WHAT WAS AFGHANISTAN, BUT IS NOW GIFTED TO TALIBAN TERRORISTS..!! (This administration is legitimizing the Taliban.) $85 Billion of War Machinery left for the Taliban. ASK THE INCOMMING AFGHANS WHAT THEY THINK OF JOE CREATING THE 26TH LARGEST MODERN ARMY IN THE WORLD, IN THEIR HOMELAND..!!
I’m wondering how I might support a person or persons by opening up my home to them. And helping them to get established.
You are crazy to house them in your home
Good for you! It is about the humanity of it all, finding peace and helping others, no matter their national origin, religion or race!
What detergent are using to brainwash
You are unAmerican to even think that’s
This is absolutely insane coming from the VA there’s so many veterans that are homeless why would we help these afghans
They’re not refugees, they’re stowaways that jumped the 1st flight out. There’s plenty of countries that live their lifestyle in their continent, not the USA. Besides, a refugee is to go to the 1st safe country, not over 8000 miles of ocean. This is how Rome fell.
why dont we take care of our own first? How many americans are being killed by Taliban right now? How many Afghans we flew hear could be Taliban? I dont support bringing them here at all! How can they work when most dont even speak english?
Why is it the Administration can import 1,000,000 illegal aliens at our Southern Border and support them for many years, import them to places that do not want them, pay for their children’s education but the State Department wants help assisting people who risked their lives supporting our armed forces in Afghanistan? Tell Biden to send the illegal aliens Bach where they came from and use the money allocated to support our friends from Afghanistan. They deserve it.
Glad we have all these efforts to help the Afghans we got out but there are still Americans in Afghanistan. This email and effort is shameful and disgusting considering that we are still flying illegal aliens across the country that break the law and cross our southern border. If you can support this effort and sleep comfortably at night….well, you know what that means.
There still is a lot of homeless US Vets out there that need help as well. They need our immediate help.
‘Help your brother’ first , what you have left share it with your neighbor.
I can not believe that the VA is asking for help tor the Afghanistan people that are coming into America when we have Veterans living on the streets in our larger cities. I refer to Portland, Oregon, Seattle, Washington, and many other cities. When we learn to ask for help for our own veterans, then it maybe possible to ask for help for the Afghan people?
I am aware the the Afghans were a great help to our veterans in Afghanistan, but please let us help our own first.
Thank you
Paul
Are you fcking insane?
None of these have been vetted.
Are you looking for increased ptsd?
No wonder everyone hates the fcking VA
Dumbasses
Can we settle them all in wealthy neighborhoods?
Yes! I love this idea! XD Have all those big mouth celebrities and millionaires put up or shut up.
Don’t worry, those of us who actually care about our fellow man are opening our hearts and our homes here in Texas to those we can help.
Why should we help these afganies when we have our own problems in this country. They are just going to cause more problems
People are doing the most to help them but not helping the homeless vets! It’s unbelievable!!
Afganies? Afghans! You see you don’t even know what they are called! Com on Mike…
Read a book!
Fck no. Send those bastards back to Afghanistan.
EXACTLY! Meanwhile there are homeless vets and vets that can’t get the benefits they deserve but they are doing the most to help them! Freaking unbelievable!
You can’t take care of homeless veterans but can fundraise for others? Where ARE THE FUNDRAISERS FOR VETERANS WHO ARE IN CRISIS? The VA doesn’t deserve the tithe Veterans Affairs! It’s should be anyone not a veteran! I WENT TO FCKING WAR IN AFGHANISTAN AND LOST FRIENDS. MY COMBAT INJURIES WILL HE WITH ME FOR LIFE! NOW THE ORGANIZATION FOR AMERICAN VETERANS IS ASKING US TO HELP THOSE WHO WE WENT TO FIGHT? NOT ALL OF THEM ARE BAD I KNOW BUT YOU SPIT IN THE FACE OF ALL AFGHANISTAN AND IRAQ VETERANS! Screw the VA and your bullsht! I have been with the VA since 2015 and to my knowledge not once has there been effort like this for my fellow brothers and sisters in arms. Pathetic cowards!
Why Donut we Do all this for homeless veterans?
We Americans helped them for twenty years. It is time for them to help themselves.
I’d like to help the 500 American citizens left behind before a load of refugees.
Really surprised the VA is pushing support for this.
Really surprised the VA is pushing support for this.
Hello
I think we can all appreciate what our”Afghan Allies “ that assisted the US during our tenure, but they were also compensated.
I’m not sure that the VA is the choice venue for requesting support, Most veterans are a little bitter about this , at least those who I’ve spoken with.Let’s concentrate on US…. we lost a lot of brothers and sisters..so the rich could get richer

Hey how about you guys give credit to the private company that had to do YOUR job that you are now taking credit for?
How about we help our homeless vets FIRST!!!!
I do support the resettlement of deserving Afghans but even more I support getting out all of the Americans fromAfghanistan.
You got to be kidding me right?? We have Vets sleeping on the streets. Have Vets who choose to be homeless cause the VA doesn’t offer DOMs that their spouses can be there with them but the VA wants to house foreigners and their families on American soil?? This is a slap in the face of every man and woman who has ever worn a uniform. With the VA budget cuts and the VA using COVID as an excuse to delay if not deny all together medical attention for us and spend the money on people who most likely are tally in disguise.
If you can use me; great
I’m a retired US Army LTC primarily a logistics staff officer. Experience includes AC, Army National Guard and Army Reserve, Pentagon Army Operations Center Crisis Action Team, AFRICOM, EUCOM and Eighth Army ROK. I am also retired federal civil service logistics, emergency readiness, continuity of operations program, asset management, records management etc. One thing I do not want to work for or with are the State Department, DOD, DHS under the current administration. I don’t want the current administration unduly taking credit for anything that has or will be accomplished.
Great work there. You’re willing to turn your back on fellow human beings because you don’t like the guy sitting in DC. Also you’re either devaluing all your qualifications or making sure people really know what kind of a piece of work you’ve turned out to be. I sure hope someone doesn’t deny you assistance one day just because someone they don’t like might happen to be associated with you through multiple degrees of separation.
I am so bothered by the premise (and the efforts put into) of the VA asking for help in regards to helping the Afghanistan families that have arrived in the United States via the “evacuation” process. Quite frankly I am disgusted with the entire situation because it could have easily been avoided!!! On top of that, and the most offensive issue of all, is that there are Americans still there within the control of a terrorist led makeshift government! This president has turned his back on EVERY American by turning his back on one!!! And then, the VA has the nerve to focus on helping the “refugees” here in America?!!!!!! This whole charade makes me question just why I even believed that my service to my country was even worth a damn!!!! This is absolutely appalling and we all know it!!! I can’t even imagine the sheer panic that must be wrapped around every American that is still there knowing that there is a bounty on their lives! This is wrong! Ask yourself, if it were you and/or your family members over there left for dead, would this president treat you any differently?!!!! Just despicable!!!!
Afghan allies??? We don’t have a clue who we are letting into our country, You should be ashamed!
HOW ABOUT WE HOUSE OUR OWN HOMELESS VETERANS BEFORE CONCENTRATING ON REGUGEES?!
Veteran homelessness was reduced about 50% from 2009 to 2019 so we already are working on the issue. How about you find another excuse for your lack of empathy for those in need?
As soon as all the Veterans are housed and supported. And the families of enlisted troops gets more $$$$$ to support their families. Too many sick and hungry US citizens. Take care of our own 1st
Helping people you don’t seem to care about doesn’t preclude also helping those you like. Would you like me to make a donation to Combined Arms in your name so you’re free to donate to a local homeless veterans organization with your own money?
I have no interest in helping “other vulnerable Afghanistan people”. They don’t belong here , we should never have brought half the country here instead of evacuating U.S. citizens and the “real” interpreters. America doesn’t exist anymore because of crap like this. Every poor pitty me foreigner is brought in and they get handed our benefits on a silver platter when they haven’t paid in anything while our own U.S. citizens are being forced to die at their desks because the SS retirement age keeps going up!!! What is right about screwing over our own people in favor of foreigners who refuse to become naturalized and assimilate to how we do everything? Why aren’t Somali’s who steal from Walmart being arrested and prosecuted instead of being let off the hook because “that’s what they do in their country”? This IS NOT their country, until they become naturalized and give up their alliance to their ways of doing things. If they can steal from Walmart so can I and if I’m arrested and they aren’t that’s discrimination against ME! True Unites States citizens are the minority now.
