July 4, 2026, marks 250 years of independence. In honor of this milestone, VA is partnering with America250 to honor one amazing Veteran per week for the next 250 weeks leading up to July 4, 2026.
Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Army Veteran George Marshall, a 5-star general who served over 40 years.
This week’s America250 salute is Navy Veteran Robert Ballard, who worked in deep-sea submergence vehicles in the Navy and later became a well-known marine archaeologist specializing in deep-sea wrecks.
This week’s America250 salute is Army Veteran Gary Beikirch, a Medal of Honor recipient who risked his life to save others in Vietnam as a combat medic.
This week’s America250 salute is Army Veteran Benjamin O. Davis Sr., who was the first African American to become a general in the Army.
This week’s America250 salute is Marine Corps and Air Force Veteran Joe Foss, who received a Medal of Honor for his actions in Guadalcanal.
This week’s America250 salute is Navy Veteran Norman Kleiss, who served as a dive bomber pilot during the Battle of Midway and World War II.
