WASHINGTON – Edward J. Murray, a resident of Dunkirk, Md., was recently selected to be one of the top financial managers at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
As VA’s new deputy assistant secretary for finance, Murray will be responsible for financial management of the department’s $68 billion budget. VA is the nation’s second-largest cabinet department, with a health care system projected to care for more than 5 million patients this year.
“With his long experience working for the private sector and within government, Ed Murray brings valuable skills to VA,” said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Anthony J. Principi.
Since June 2001, Murray has been a senior manager at VA responsible for accounting, payment and human resources systems. Before joining VA, he spent seven years with the Coast Guard, where he was chief technology officer to the service’s chief financial officer.
He has more than 15 years experience in the private sector overseeing information technology programs and various business systems projects.
Murray received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and his master’s in information systems from the University of Denver.
