WASHINGTON – The Department of Veterans Affairs has conditionally approved three grants totaling $13.6 million to the state of California for major improvements at the Veterans Home of California in Yountville.
“I’m grateful for President Bush’s support in ensuring that veterans receive the respect and care they have earned,” said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Anthony J. Principi. “These grants reflect the federal-state partnership which is honoring that commitment to care for the men and women who have served in uniform.”
The grants include $10 million for general renovations, $2.2 million to upgrade the electrical system and $1.4 million for water storage and transmission line improvements.
Before receiving the grants, which will pay up to 65 percent of the cost of the renovations, the state has agreed to meet certain federal requirements within 180 days. The overall cost of the projects is approximately $21 million.
