WASHINGTON – The Department of Veterans Affairs has conditionally approved a grant for more than $2.8 million to Kansas to assist with renovations at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield.
“I’m grateful for President Bush’s support in ensuring that veterans receive the respect and care they have earned,” said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Anthony J. Principi. “This grant reflects the federal-state partnership which is honoring that commitment to care for the men and women who have served in uniform.”
Before receiving the grant, which will pay up to 65 percent of the cost of the renovations, the state has agreed to meet certain federal requirements within 180 days. The overall cost of the project is approximately $4.35 million.
The Kansas Veterans Home provides domiciliary, skilled nursing and long-term care for eligible veterans. Additional information about the home can be found by calling (620) 221-9479, ext. 250.
