Nicholson: Grant Honors VA’s Commitment to Veterans
WASHINGTON – To ensure the state veterans home in Minneapolis remains a comfortable, safe residence, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is awarding nearly $1.6 million to Minnesota for improvements at the home.
“This grant honors our commitment to care for Minnesota’s men and women who have served in uniform,” said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Jim Nicholson. “Successful partnerships between federal and state governments are paramount to providing caring and comfortable environments for our veterans.”
The grant will cover emergency electrical and back-up generator upgrades. Total estimated cost of the Minneapolis project is $2,457,000, with VA’s grant covering up to 65 percent of the cost.
Last year, VA spent more than $1.2 billion in Minnesota to serve more than 410,000 veterans who live in the state. VA operates major medical centers in Minneapolis and St. Cloud, a nursing home in St. Cloud and eight community-based outpatient clinics across the state.
