Peake: Grants Honor VA’s Commitment to Veterans
WASHINGTON – To ensure the Illinois state veterans home in Manteno remains a comfortable and safe residence for veterans, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is awarding a grant worth $295,100 for improvements at the state-run facility.
“Our federal-state partnership helps to provide comfortable and safe housing in a caring community for Illinois veterans who have served their country,” said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Dr. James B. Peake.”
VA’s grant will cover 65 percent of the total cost of the project. Overall cost for a nurse-call system replacement at the Illinois Veterans Home in Manteno is expected to be $454,000.
The Manteno Veterans Home is located on a 122-acre campus, comprised of four major nursing care units and two ancillary service and support buildings. With a total capacity of 352 beds, the Manteno home offers a broad and diverse range of programs and services to eligible veterans.
Last year, VA spent nearly $2.5 billion in Illinois to serve more than 842,000 veterans who live in the state. VA operates major medical centers in North Chicago, Chicago (Jesse Brown and Hines medical centers), Danville and Marion, with outpatient clinics and Vet Centers across the state.
