WASHINGTON — Secretary of Veterans Affairs Anthony J. Principi announced today that the new Broward County VA Outpatient Clinic will be located at Sunrise Prospect Plaza.

“This new clinic is tangible evidence of our commitment to meet the health care needs of veterans in southern Florida,” said Principi.  “The Department of Veterans Affairs provides world-class health care for our nation’s veterans.  We must ensure that we have facilities where they’re convenient for veterans.”

The newly constructed, leased, one-story building on 9.3 acres of land, will be built in the area of Commercial Boulevard and Nob Hill Road.

The Oakland Park VA Outpatient Clinic will continue to treat veterans at the current location on North Dixie Highway until the new clinic is completed in January 2005.  This will provide a smooth transition with the least amount of disruption in medical services while the new clinic is built.  VA officials plan to begin construction the spring of 2003.

In Florida, VA operates medical centers at Bay Pines, Miami, Tampa, and West Palm Beach, and two medical divisions at Gainesville and Lake City, which comprise the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System.

Additionally, there are eight multi-specialty VA outpatient clinics located in Tallahassee, Jacksonville, Daytona Beach, Orlando, Viera (Brevard County), Port Richey, Ft. Myers, and Oakland Park.  Primary care also is provided at 31 community-based outpatient clinics located throughout the state.
