WASHINGTON – Fulfilling a commitment to Ohio veterans, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has awarded a contract to a Columbus firm to begin design work for a new $95-million, 295,000-square-foot VA clinic that will offer a wide range of medical specialties.
“As promised, we’re moving forward to open this state-of-the-art health care facility, reflecting our commitment to Ohio residents who have served our nation in uniform,” said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Anthony J. Principi.
“With the contract, Ohio‘s veterans are an important step closer to having 21st century health care in a 21st century facility,” Principi added.
The department intends to break ground on the new clinic in early 2005, with a targeted completion date in the summer of 2007. The facility will be located on land transferred from the Defense Supply Center.
The $450,000 contract announced today to NBBJ of Columbus, Ohio, calls for the firm to prepare the documents that VA will use in its formal request for bids from construction companies.
“This contract is the next step in an expedited process that will ensure our veterans have access to the care they need – not only for today, but for the future,” Principi said.
In December, Principi announced plans to create the new medical facility. It will replace the existing Chalmers P. Wylie VA Outpatient Clinic, which will remain open until the new facility is operational.
