120-Bed State Veterans Home Planned

WASHINGTON — The Department of Veterans Affairs has approved a $17.1 million grant for the new 120-bed Tucson State Veterans Home in Arizona.

“Our federal-state partnership will provide comfortable and safe housing for Arizona’s Veterans in a caring community,” said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki.

The grant will cover 65 percent of the total costs for the $26.4 million facility.

Last year, VA spent more about $2.1 billion on behalf of the state’s 560,000 Veterans.  VA operates major medical centers in Phoenix, Prescott and Tucson, as well as two dozen outpatient clinics and Vet Centers.
